I remember when I first started doing yoga and how unbearable it was when I teacher would hold us in a pose for a long time... ESPECIALLY warrior 2... which often felt like my arms were going to fall off. All I could think was “get me out of here”. I was too self-conscious to take breaks, so I’d stay in the pose stewing at the teacher and mad at myself for being there in the first place. I couldnt “be with it” ... and I definitely didn’t have an understanding of impermanence. I’ve since found a completely different way of being where I’m at. There’s more space between myself and my urges to get out of discomfort... I can notice even the pain that comes up and not be swept away by it... to not IMMEDIATELY blame others for what I’m going through or use my experience as another tool to beat myself up with. When things aren’t going my way or when I find myself distraught or frustrated, there’s now a small voice in the background to remind me to stay... to watch and feel... to pay attention to... and eventually witness how everything moves and changes. How could I ever find the words to describe my time here. What will I possibly say when people ask? What have I done, acquired, or accomplished? I have nothing tangible to show. I started planning my trip to India over a year ago, thinking I was coming to fill my mind with more yoga knowledge to become a better teacher for the benefit of my students. 800 hours of study now under my belt, & I leave knowing less than I did when I arrived, and with a heart cracked wide open & flowing over. My initial intention was to find stillness of mind. I walk away seeing my real work is in connection & communication. How I show up for myself, and from there how I show up for others. How I voice my truths. How I love. How I let myself be loved. Life can’t be LIVED from behind a pen, checking off tasks on a list. Wisdom can’t be organized into categories & bullet points. My heart & mind now have less defined edges, but more sure truths. That is what I know, & that is more than enough. I’ll be back on the mat in PDX starting this Monday! #AYearInTheMountains (1/3) 3rd September, 2019 The Sun had parted ways, and I had emptied the dabba with my favorite butter paneer masala- I wanted to savour it one last time as I left Indore. I was lying on the middle berth of a sleeper train compartment looking outside the window with an over-packed rucksack, a trolley bag heavier than my body and a newly-bought guitarlele that I didnt know how to play. It was a beautiful night- I was smiling throughout the journey despite my (almost) empty bank account, a depressed head, and a shrunken body. Finally so close to my dream coming true!! The dream of experiencing life in the mountains. The dream that I had kept too close to my heart for almost 6 years before it could see the light of day. It wasnt easy. Not at all. I hadnt even left on a sweet note. The pain of stepping out leaving upset faces behind the door is hard to explain. I couldnt even cry, something that comes so naturally to me otherwise. But I knew it was going to be worth it. I knew I had to take this chance. It was meant to happen! That one train journey to Delhi was a starting point to so many experiences, so many first-times and last-times, I couldnt have imagined. I hardly had any clue how my life is going to look like. It was a huge leap of faith. But who knows what life has in store for us anyway? That night I couldnt sleep. There were so many emotions to tend to- the excitement of living the dream, the relief of making it happen at last, the impairing sadness of parting from people I dont know when Im going to see next, the exhaustion that depression had brought in life, the ache some hollow yet heavy goodbyes gave to my heart... How do you sleep with so much inside of you? But the Sun had to shine again. The night had to come to an end, even if on an unresolved note. LET’S TALK SHOULDER SEASON! (SAVE THIS POST!) Shoulder season is one of my favorite times of the year. #sponsored There are fewer people on the trail, nicer temperatures, the leaves changing colors… the list is endless. The weather can be unpredictable, and the days are shorter, but you don’t have to get completely new gear to be comfortable. Here are a few tips on how to weather shoulder season: 🍁 If your sleeping bag isn’t warm enough, no sweat. Pick up a sleeping bag liner and add 10-15° to your current bag. Bonus: it keeps your sleeping bag clean. 🍁 Sleeping bags keep you warm. They don’t make you warm. Generate some heat before getting inside by doing jumping jacks or a little night time jog. You can also boil water and put it in a bottle to stick inside your bag—just make sure the lid is on tight. 🍁 Time to layer up! Some key layers will keep you toasty, inside and outside of your sleeping bag. Merino wool base layers are my favorite; they still keep you warm when they get wet and they control your odor. 🍁 If I get really cold, I sleep in my puffy jacket, and that’s one less layer I have to put on in the morning. 🍁 A fleece-lined neck gaiter is everything! Use it for your face, as a beanie, or just pull it over your head to block out all light and be warm. 🍁 Worst case scenario, bring a friend, flop onto them, steal their body heat. #ORANGESHIRTDAY CW . As my partner reminded me the last residential school closed in 1997 in Saskatchewan . This is not a part of history and the past because this evil has simply transformed. But we have more resources, more wisdom, more healing returning to us to break these intergenerational curses. Residential schools were part of the current ongoing genocide of our people being enacted by the Federal and Provincial Governments in what is currently known as Canada. There are more children today in foster care than there ever was in residential schools. . Both of my Grandparents went to Residential School. My Grandma always wanted people to know that she did not have a bad experience because it was important to her that people know it wasn’t all completely hopeless. It’s still hard for me to understand but I think there is wisdom held in her words that I’m still learning. . My grandfather had horrific experiences. I’ve attempted to speak on these but it’s so awful the words don’t leave my body . Residential schools created putrid intergenerational trauma and we aren’t able to fully heal because we are constantly being re-traumatized by the new monsters it has transformed into: the child welfare system being one of them . Indigenous people are represented above and around 50% across the board in the prison system, foster care, poverty, violence, resource desparity, health issues, and so on across so called Canada. . And according to the 2016 census we only represent 4.9% of the so called Canadian population which results in ridiculously inflated statistics like indigenous women are 7x more likely to experience violence than any other demographic. . Meanwhile we are often misrepresented in the data and our population is higher and the cases are definitely being under reported . Residential schools in particular burned documents, hid files, brushed whatever they could under their papal rugs to hide the true enormity of the genocide, similar to today . The UN defines genocide by 5 main definitions, those are all currently still happening and being enacted. . 🍁The only time I truly like my appearance is that moment right when I decide to plant some seeds. Today, I’m letting freshly cut flowers dry out on our one spare grow shelf, letting my rainbow fudge set completely in the freezer, studying about winter tuber care, and trying to figure out which seeds (hello, cacti!) we can start now for (somewhat) maturity next April. Like many feeling the creeping chills in the brisk morning, I too have finally felt like I can breathe...but, yes, the Tennessee humidity is still there ha! . 🌲P.S. 🏕️Perche viaggiare da SOLI? ⛰️ Ecco la mia motivazione! . Viaggiare da soli penso che sia una terapia. Sia per noi stessi ma anche per chi ci circonda, proprio perché stando bene con noi stessi facciamo stare bene anche chi ci conosce, i nostri cari, partner, amici. È un dato di fatto, ormai lho sperimentato più e più volte. . Questo viaggio alla solitaria mi ha fatto capire solo di più quanto sia importante il dialogo interiore, quanto sia fondamentale ascoltarsi, fermarsi e chiedersi se si sta facendo la scelta che più riteniamo giusta e sentita, se è ciò che vogliamo davvero o se siamo stati influenzati senza accorgercene. . Viaggiare da soli ti mette a nudo, vai a fondo, non hai altre opzioni. Ciò che cercavi di evitare durante le tue giornate lavorative very busy busy viene a galla proprio quando sei da solo. Con i tuoi pensieri. Tu e tu. E poi conosci tanta gente lungo il cammino, penso sia la parte più bella del viaggio! Quindi effettivamente non sei mai completamente solo (e meno male, è un mix favoloso secondo me🌱) . Ci sono volte in cui hai a che fare con la paura, certo..come tante cose daltronde, ma se non si sperimenta, se non si fa quel passettino oltre lalinea di confine come fai a capire se è una cosa che fa per te o meno? Cè chi ama stare in solitudine, chi invece, facendolo, scopre di odiarlo anche solo perché si annoia a morte! È molto soggettivo. . Personalmente io mi sono sempre divertita, anche nei momenti di smarrimento. Everyone’s self-love story is unique and so are our bodies. My journey started with such a focus on my mental health that I lost sight of my relationship with my physical presence: my organs, senses, and cycles. In spite of the global pandemic, things are looking up around here! The sun is shining, the sandhill cranes and robins have returned, and the best news of all - I AM CANCER FREE! ⭐️ Today I am three weeks out from my double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery and feel fantastic. HUGE shout out to my surgeons @drannepeled and @peledmigraine the amazing husband + wife duo who are shifting the paradigm for women’s health and breast cancer. I will forever be grateful for their expertise and good care. ⭐️ I’ve said it before, and I’m saying it again - it’s not lost on me that I have been blessed with the best worst case scenario with my cancer. I’ve been learning all I can and am spending time as I shelter-in-place exploring ways to share what I’ve learned. I am open to all suggestions - please DM me and let me know what you’re curious about. ⭐️ It may seem like everything is out of control right now, and in many ways it is, but what I’ve witnessed and experienced first hand these past three weeks is nothing short of amazing. In other words, the silver lining of this pandemic for me has been witnessing and experiencing the best of humanity, along side the worst. Hi! I thought it would be fitting for my first post to be an intro post so here it is :) •My name’s Anoushka and I’m from Michigan! I’m currently a second semester sophomore in college, and I’m a pre-med majoring in Neuroscience and French. •In my free time, I love watching Netflix and Youtube, listening to music, going on long walks with my dog, doing yoga and meditating! I’m afraid and sad and full of dread. But I am also healthy and grateful and hopeful. I am fine. I am not fine. I am everything at once. An observation: The darkness is, well, very scary dark BUT the things that snap me out of it and bring me back to a brighter baseline are so tiny, so simple, so easy. No offense to my family and friends, but if I’m being honest I’m not sure face-timing with them BC (before covid) would have elevated my entire mood for HOURS and left me feeling heard, loved and SEEN. These days, it does. It fills me up. It rights the wrongs. It makes me want to write lengthy instagram captions about how lucky I am to have them in my life. I mean, I have loved them all along, of course, but everything feels a little feelier™️ - richer, deeper, more vulnerable. There is no time or space for distractions and pleasantries. “Hey how about this weather!?” That’s not a thing. It’s just: I love you. You’re important. I want you to wash your hands because you mean the world to me. The introvert in me digs it. #letscancelsmalltalkforever I have walked Blu through my community countless times before, but we acknowledge strangers differently. We wave, say hello (from AT LEAST 6 feet away) and FEEL connection through a common need (MOVEMENT, SUN, SKY) a common purpose (sacrifice, protect, help) and well let’s call it what it is - a common enemy. We are all in it. We are all feeling it. Keep feeling it, the good and the bad. We’ll get through it together. I really, really believe that. Please stay vigilant. Do gór trzeba dojrzeć. . Gdy byłam małą dziewczynką rodzice rok rocznie zabierali mnie w góry. Tatry. Jeździliśmy w Tarty odkąd skończyłam bodaj cztery lata. Niesamowicie mnie to nudziło. Chodzenie, chodzenie, chodzenie... nic ciekawego. No, czasem gdy można było się wdrapać na jakąś skałkę było ciut ciekawiej. Jednak zdaje mi się, że chodzenie po dolinach nie jest najlepszą rozrywką dla dziecka. Zaśmiałam się w duchu gdy na szlaku minęłam ok. 10 letniego chłopca ciągniętego przez tatę za rękę. Jakbym widziała siebie :) Tata wygłaszał mowę motywacyjną, że wszystko co fajne w życiu musi być okraszone wysiłkiem. Ale czy dla kilkulatka naprawdę nagrodą będzie widok na góry? Dla mnie nie było. . Gdy miałam lat już naście pozwolono mi wejść na trudniejsze szlaki. Zrobiło się ciekawiej, ale mimo wszystko nie było to najlepszym sposobem na spędzanie czasu dla czternastoletniej Zosi. . Pierwszy raz pojechałam latem w góry z własnej woli tuż po maturze, ale miłość do gór i wędrówek narodziła się dopiero teraz, po trzydziestce. I kolejna zasłyszana na szlaku historia, która potwierdza moją teorię: „Pokochałam góry, jak pojechałam 3 lata temu sama.” . Może nie warto zatem motywować dzieci zbieraniem pieczątek i znaczków w schroniskach lub lodami na Krupówkach, tylko pozwolić im za kilkanaście, a może kilkadziesiąt lat samodzielnie zasmakować gór? . Ot, takie moje przemyślenia :) . This mountain has provided me some great memories... from summiting off trail with @brodiedegrace on one of my first few peaks to which we dubbed the RonDeg Route😂 to taking friends up their for their first summit and watching their jaws drop in awe at the sunset over a sea of mountains. The other day after work I decided to put on the trail runners and see how fast I could push myself to the summit. I smashed my old time, which felt nice, but also led me to reflect on memories and how the stigma of summiting the same peak, most people, including myself, would consider boring. I came to the conclusion that In this case, that’s not always the fact, seeing my progress and having nostalgia of previous moments with distant friends sure stimulated my soul, made me grateful and changed my perspective of this mountain stigma. They’ve been shorter trips, in my car, to unfamiliar destinations. I won’t have an actual destination in mind/booked. Out I go to complete unfinished business on the Kings Canyon High Basin Route that was created by @andrewskurka . Last summer I completed the 1st quarter of this route from Lodgepole to Kearsarge Pass. This 111 mile diverse and rugged section will travel cross-country and on trail . We hope to complete our loop from Kearsarge and back across the Sierras to Kearsarge in 8 days (I packed a ton of food). Tomorrow I am heading out with @dropnroll to complete this bad boy. If you have ever been diagnosed with a condition, that is deemed incurable or irresolvable, if you have ever been given an identity that confines you, that restricts your life, who you are, how you live, now more than ever is the moment to challenge any inhibiting constructs of such understanding, as we all move into a new time line together. This time ten years ago I was diagnosed with a rare “degenerative” spinal condition (Acute Spondylitis) that caused me to experience pain 24/7. Like most people with this condition I was prescribed drugs was told the condition was manageable, but not resolvable, that it was essential I did not surf, run, or lift weights, I was told it could be greatly improved with an advanced surgery. etc I remember how defeated I felt receiving that, with no mention of an avenue with actual resolve or healing, I felt crushed form this “pre-scription” of my life. None of that sat right in my chest, nor was an option for me. It forced me on a path, a path out of depression that would lead me to resolve my own issues, to then go on to help with other peoples traumas, and eventually brought me here…. I know many of us have experienced something similar, where our greatest challenges have been catalysts to our greatest growth, we are alive to discover things and share the nectar of are discoveries for the greater good of others, here are some things I wish to share that have been true. PLEASE SHARE YOUR FINDINGS IN THE COMMENTS BELOW I write this post pain free from the top of a rock wall that I just climbed in the canyon, I have tears in my eyes, as there was a time I thought I would never climb again, but really my tears are not for myself but for how much chaos and disease is being created unnecessarily, not from actual pathological sickness, but from our own psyches, the sickness of fear, from all the disconnection, negative affirmation and self limiting beliefs that rage like wild fires in our minds. I have wanted to go to India for as long as I can remember. When I was little my dad would tell me stories- the best story teller- about his time visiting here... the temples, the ashrams, the holy men with golden eggs coming out of their throats ( wish I could remember this one more haha ) and I dreamed about being there. Tasting the food. Exploring the cities. Meeting the people. Visiting with him.. After a series of unplanned events in the last month I have arrived and spent the last week exploring a place I have always wanted to go. My first time traveling alone somewhere that was completely foreign to me. Today I arrived in Jaipur. When I was looking at my map I found a temple with the name Ganesh in it and my body led me there. I walked up and bought an orange floral garland for 20 rupees ( this is like 25 cents. ) I took off my shoes in trust no one would take them and walked inside the temple. I went to the altar, clueless as to what to do, and watched the devoted pray. I looked at Ganesh, the remover of obstacles; a favorite of my dads and mine. The Ganesh elephant adorning not only his art but our house- and smiled a lot . I took some selfies and waited for the man behind the altar to hopefully take my garland as an offering like I saw the others do. When he did in return he handed me a small, single, rose. This set me off. I stared at the rose so unbelievably grateful for it. For how beautiful this was. So overwhelmed and grateful that I had actually made it to India. So overwhelmed by the moment that tears started flooding my face. Not sad but happy ones. Overwhelmed by the bells we started ringing hanging from the ceiling not knowing what I was doing and filling the entire temple with sound. Im so grateful I made it to a place I dreamed about coming. So glad to feel close to my father. for how connected I feel. I will never forget this day for the rest of my life. I know this is long winded. and though a very personal experience I wanted to share. I am proud of this moment. My heart feels cracked. Thank you to all of it ❤️🌹 - @rubyaldridge on Instagram

Jade 8B+ (V14) and Two Ton Skeleton 8B (V13)🥳 • Jade has always been a “bucket list” climb for me, but one I thought I would always need to be stronger to do, or even try. The first day I was on it I was pleasantly surprised by how I felt on the climb, second day I fell on the V10 stand and yesterday I was able to send first try of the day and felt as though I was floating up the wall. Last try of the day I managed to send Two Ton Skeleton 8B (+/-) after watching @drewruana demolish Creature from the black Lagoon 8C+ (V16). It was an incredible day, one I will remember forever!🥰 • I feel so grateful to have this time to explore the park. I have learned so much in the past few months from pushing myself outdoors. Que me perdoem os “todo mundo que me conhece sabe o quanto eu gosto de aniversário”, mas esse é um jeito meio manjado de começar o texto-do-aniversariante-em-plena-quarentena. E agora sim, cabe o “quem me conhece sabe”, porque de fato quem me conhece sabe que eu corro pro lado oposto dos manjados. Ontem me perguntaram de onde surgiu a ideia de fazer uma festa de aniversário temática, a fantasia e online. O “online” vocês já sabem o porquê. Mas a parte do temático? Quem sabe? Tenho tentado não podar minha imaginação e foi isso que surgiu. O mais legal foi poder transformar o domingo de quarentena de cada um que se conectou comigo um pouco mais divertido, engraçado ou no mínimo estranho. Normal não foi. Obrigada todxs vocês que enquanto estavam se arrumando pensaram “que ideia é essa, meu Deus?” “Só Daniela pra fazer isso”. Era a intenção. E por falar em conexão, a tecnologia nos aproxima. Abusa dela e não deixa seus sonhos e vontades pro ano que vem. Não prorrogue, adapte. Não cancele, transforme! Além da internet, a conexão das pessoas quando diz respeito à energia boa que elas mandaram em minha direção, pôde ser sentida em KMs de distância. Nunca é longe demais quando se trata em mandar boas intenções e vibrações. O mundo tá um caos. E você, próximo aniversariante, fica em casa. Esteja com as pessoas da sua casa e que estão dividindo essa quarentena com você, mas não pensa que isso é motivo pra não fazer aquela comemoração divertida que você imaginou no início do ano, porque dá. Dá pra mandar pedaço de bolo para as pessoas, dá pra dar risada, se arrumar, tirar selfie e até mesmo foto em grupo. O abraço e o olho no olho fazem muita falta sim, mas lembra ali quando eu falei da energia? To survive summer in Texas, start by adding water. We decided to head out for the day & visit some familiar spots as well as new ones. I searched for places that were close to Austin, close to each other & would leave enough time to enjoy each one. You don’t have to travel far to find beauty in Central Texas! ☀️ Though I’ve hiked at Pace Bend a handful of times, this was my first time swimming here. We went on a Sunday morning to make sure we would have plenty of room to be physically distanced from others. Based on our other water adventures, this time we came prepared with a pop-up cabana for some necessary shade. We brought snacks & lunch to maximize our time here + reduce interactions with people since we didn’t have to stop for food. 🚘 Next on our stop was Longhorn Cavern State Park! We visited for a First Day Hike several years ago & felt like it was time to revisit. The cavern stays at 68 degrees year-round so it’s a great way to escape the heat while enjoying something beautiful outside. The tour groups had about 10 people & masks were required. 🦇 Seeing some tiny bat nuggets here was a perfect lead-up for our final stop: Old Tunnel State Park! 🚘 Mexican free-tailed bats have claimed this old railroad tunnel as their own & now emerge in the thousands to create a beautiful swarm. There are two viewing areas: the lower has a $5 fee while the upper is free, both are limited to 10 people due to COVID & masks are required. We stayed in the upper area which was shaded & also allowed for a beautiful view of the sunset over the Texas hill country. Mexican free-tailed bats are the most common bat in the state & they begin their migration back to Mexico around October once it gets cooler. 🚘 That’s a wrap for this microventure! These are questions I get a lot now that I’ve been on the road for a while. I literally was raised to fear everything and be dramatic about it lol so yeah. Every night before sleep.... every time I hit a trail, everytime I go to the bathroom ,everytime I shower, walk out of a gas station or store I am scared. I don’t stay at campgrounds bc I prefer not to spend money to sleep. I look for sleeping spots that are kind of populated with other cars. I make sure I have the keys and pepper gel in hand. I sleep with my hatched right next to me and triple check that the doors are locked. I make sure my car is facing in a way that can easily exit out of. I make sure my panic button on my car alarm works. I try not to hang out outside my car too much so if someone is following me they won’t know what car I drive. I also just jump from the driver seat to the back so no one notices I’m alone. On the trail I pick up sharp rocks or a pointy branch just in case...and always carry my pepper gel (gel bc spray goes everywhere and if there’s wind then you’ll get sprayed too). Idk if men know this but a lot of women think of exit strategies to avoid getting raped. Just yesterday I was showering at a campground and the maintenance guy happened to be cleaning the showers. As I was showering all I could do was think of an exit strategy. Sometimes I ask myself “why am i doing this” last night was one of those nights. Even before I read @sunshinelovaa post. I constantly have my guard up. So if you witness a woman not be so open and friendly while out solo - respect it and understand it’s to stay safe. - @luz.lituma - @latinxhikers on Instagram

“Being a rock climbing guide was not what I thought it would be. It is not an opportunity to climb. It has nothing to do with my own personal climbing objectives. It is not about being a rope gun. When I guide, I tune into a persons outdoor and/or climbing background and learn about their ambitions. I imagine the terrain that will set them up for success and engage them most. I try to bring them to a place where they discover something new about themselves. My job is to bring people to a place where they can then achieve something they didnt think they could do. To stand on top of a wild formation they never thought possible. To climb a route they couldnt do on their own. To reach a new high point as they let go of their fear of heights. Or rappel down a cliff, like a wild amusement park experience. Facilitating other people so they can reach goals is the greatest gift. Watching other people struggle then succeed is as satisfying as it is to experience it. And this is what I love about guiding. I am always in contact with efforts of success. I’M BAAAAAAAAACK !!! Did you miss me? 😁😉 Little did anyone know, myself included, that when I said I was taking a BIG break, I’d actually be gone for more than 2 MONTHS! WOW! So, after all that time, have I come back a completely rested, whole and enlightened being? ......I WISH! 😅 Am I OKAY? Yes, and thank you for all the concerned messages Have I learnt a lot ? YES Am I happy i did it? DEFINITELY Did I miss it? Parts of it Do I wish I could permanently stay off? sometimes 😬 But I will continue to do it because I know I help to inspire many people through my work and this brings me much joy, I also love the creative aspect of it.💓 So what was it like taking two months off? Was I FINALLY able to relax? NOPE! quite the contrary. Things actually got worse 🙃 HOW you say? With my biggest distraction out of the way, things got REALLY uncomfortable! But my intention was to heal, so I was provided the perfect recipe to bring up all the unwanted emotions I suppressed for so many years.🥳 You can’t HEAL if you’re not prepared to FEEL🤪 As chaotic as it was and still is, I know this was all happening FOR ME, and all I can do it be gentle with myself, forgiving, grateful and surrender. With this break, I was able to recognize some toxic habits I blindly accumulated from work and daily life which were affecting me greatly. Things I couldn’t see when I always kept myself so busy. But the greatest lesson of all from this massive pause was extremely profound 🤯 but that I’ll have to share in another post 😉 Let me know if you’d ever consider such a break and how you might benefit from it. This is me in 2012, a wilderness therapy field instructor. Dirty, smelly, cold, but undoubtedly happy. This job transformed my life a multitude of ways, and leads me to my current juncture. . When I started graduate school to get my MSW in 2015, I did so with the hope of someday becoming a wilderness therapist. And now that is finally becoming a reality, I am thrilled to share that in a few weeks I will be joining Wingate Wilderness as their newest therapist. I am incredibly excited about the passionate team at Wingate and the way they approach therapy by emphasizing trusting relationships and the strengths of students and staff alike. I certainly didn’t expect this transition to happen now, I’ve only been at the hospital since February. If you can get past the neon gel pen ink, the salacious amount of acronyms, and the fact I kept citing my favorite color as “clear,” reading childhood journal entries are kind of cute. I will admit there is a lot of skimming because the details can get a little cringey, and some wondering how I ever passed eighth grade English, but I had some big goals. The real problem, in those childhood journals, was my dreams and perceptions were unfocused and scattered and quite frankly, unreasonable. I wasn’t going to be something I was going to be everything. For example it was a priority for me, around age ten, to become a movie star, noting that I would really like this job, but I wouldn’t want to do the kissing part. Around age twelve I determined I was destined for the Olympics. The entry was a lengthy pro-con list of whether I should pursue swimming or track and field for my Olympic dreams, with a sad asterisk at the end noting that at age twelve and nearly 5’7” I would probably be too tall to ever be an Olympic gymnast. This was also around the time I vowed to buy myself a tree house when I was grown up, and wrote (what apparently was the main critique of this idea) that I would still be okay with living in a treehouse, even if I couldn’t get a refrigerator up into the tree. In 2006 there was an entry about being nominated for homecoming princess. I wrote that this was the best day of my life. I wrote “there is no way I could possibly be happier.” In 2012 I would never get hired again, for the rest of my life. In 2013, I would never be in love again, for the rest of my life. In 2016 I would never leave Africa again, for the rest of my life. In 2020 I would never leave my house again. For the rest of my life. Do I get bad days? Hell yes, and they are painful! But I’ve leaned happiness doesn’t come from our external situations. It’s a choice from within to view any situation, in any given moment, as something positive or have faith in a positive outcome and be ok with that. It’s revising your old beliefs and habitual patterns that your mind is so preconditioned to come up with. I make the choice to be positive or just plain move on from unhealthy experiences. I don’t want to minimize how painful and impossible these moments feel. I don’t want to push my symptoms to the side any longer in the hopes that they’ll magically go away. I don’t want to feel like a burden on everyone in my life. I don’t want to wake up every day forcing myself out of bed just trying to get by. I don’t want to feel like I can’t advocate for myself when it comes to seeking the help of medical specialists. I don’t want to feel lost and scared that I’m going to end up feeling this way for the rest of my life. I don’t want to be unlovable because I suffer with chronic symptoms. I don’t want to lose friends because I have to cancel plans constantly. I don’t want to be a “boring” girlfriend. I don’t want to have to be taken care of. I want my life back. And I am going to fight to figure out what’s going on and how to feel better. I want to find some sort of positivity and shed light on the negative. I want to find the silver lining. I’m trying SO hard to. Please know that if you’re struggling, you still deserve love. You still deserve compassion. You still deserve answers and help. I wanted to post this to say thank you. Thank you so much to anyone that reached out, sent me words of affirmation, advice, medical recommendations, love, and positivity. If there’s one positive thing I can recognize from all of this, it’s that I have a lot of people rooting for me. I am 35 today and grateful to be alive. First order of business at 35: stop waiting. I do not mean that I am doing away with patience, or that I need more haste. In fact, I need a little less hurry with a little more patience (beside the point). I may have spent most of my adult life waiting for the next thing. How many years have I spent with my mind and heart focusing on the future and what’s next I wonder? How many wonderful life jewels have I missed out on not being in the “now” and believing that I will be happy when this or that happens, when I climb at this grade or when I run up that mountain? What would my relationships with others be like if truly embraced the now? What would the relationship with myself be like if I wasn’t waiting for a better Chad? So...I quit waiting...cold turkey. 🧠✔️MENTAL HEALTH CHECK Its a beautiful Sunday morning and I just spent a solid 2 hours cleaning the house, watering the plants and grooming my doggo. 🤚🏽This might just be my Virgo OCD... and I did read somewhere that cleaning + organizing is a Virgo method of self-care. And I resonate with this 💯%. I forgot about my phone, and just got wayyy in the zone and am now feeling so much clarity. The best feeling is sitting on my yoga mat after and just breathing + grounding. ‼️The fact that I have a never-ending to-do list AND the fact that the animal police 👮 just gave us ANOTHER warning bc Duke 🐕 started to bark for 15 minutes while I was vacuuming doesnt even seem overwhelming🙈(I totally know which neighbor called too, but I got too much love and light pouring through me right now!)😂 👆🏽point being, that this is a reminder to take care of YOU first. Its SO damn easy to put it off, but find out what is your own version of self care and DO that. Astrology can help guide you if youre not sure what activities + practices are most fulfilling for you. People are getting triggered, defending and pushing their perspectives and pointing the finger at those not doing enough. With such a widespread awakening happening across the planet, this new ego threatens to become yet another cause of separation and division.
