Feels pretty crazy to say this, but my debut album, ‘Going to the Movies’ is out now. I’ve held this album suffocatingly close to the chest for a second, and today is the day I let you guys pry it from my overprotective hands and carry it in to this wild world. I’ve been making music for more than half my life now. And despite the many highlights and 5 records from my past as a young musician, this album takes the cake. It is more me than anything I’ve ever put out. There are days when I think it’s more me than I am. But that’s a whole other conversation. I could go on and on about the obsession, the at times debilitating perfectionism, and the sheer amount of hours I put into producing this thing alone at my modest home studio over the course of 6 months, but I’d also like to think that the work speaks for itself. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done with my life, and if it can put even the smallest salve on the wounds inflicted by this surreal time, I’ll consider that a job well done. Propelled to fame with Romancing the Stone in 1984, he went on to star in Fatal Attraction with Glenn Close, Wall Street, Basic Instinct, The Rainmaker, and many others. Most currently, he’s acted in Marvel movies Ant-Man and The Avengers. We chatted with the actor and producer back in 2010 - while in radiation treatment for tongue cancer and during the box office release of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Here’s a snippet from the interview - read more at citylifemagazine.ca: Q: At this point in your career, how important is it to find different kinds of characters to play? A: Actually, it’s crucial. It’s the only reason to get out of the house, quite honestly – unless you find something that is exciting and motivating. I’m in a great place in my life personally right now in terms of Catherine [Zeta-Jones] and our two little, young children that we really enjoy. So I don’t get out that often to go do stuff. You have to trust your instincts and I like flying without a net. I enjoy that risk-taking aspect. It’s exciting for me. Q: There are very rare relationships between actors like the one you’ve had with Danny Devito. Tell me about this lifelong friendship. You guys have worked together often. Is your friendship and professional relationship hard to balance? A: It’s seamless. It’s the beauty about working with friends. I mean, I know now why people like to work together. It’s because you don’t have to go through that formality, that dance of introductions, the this-and-that. There’s a familiarity. We’re old buddies and so in the limited time that we have together; there’s a comfort factor. Plus, he’s funny. He’s funny off the set or on the set. He can’t help himself. So I completely understand why people like to work with the same actors and/or the same directors again and again, especially as the schedules and the budgets get shorter and tighter every year. Manly P. Hall (March 18, 1901-August 29, 1990) Dr. Stephan Hoeller recently visited PRS to record a lecture in Halls honor on the importance of cultivating ones own philosophy of life. In his work My Philosophy of Life, Hall wrote A mature philosophy of life originates in a natural thoughtfulness. To live without thinking is to fail in the proper use of the powers and faculties with which we have been endowed. To think without applying our thoughts to the conduct of our affairs is to substitute mere intellectualism for intelligence. It is seldom possible to perfect a personal philosophy without study, through which we become familiar with the deepest and noblest convictions of mankind. We must also call upon daily experience, by which we can convince ourselves of the reality and integrity of certain basic principles ever present and forever true. Beyond both study and experience are the internal faculties of the soul, and these must bestow final certitude upon our convictions. If, therefore, we live simply and wisely, seeking first the improvement of our inner lives, reserving an open heart and mind, we shall be guided and directed according to our needs and understanding. Nikola Tesla (1937)💕 Serbian-American engineer and physicist Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) made dozens of breakthroughs in the production, transmission and application of electric power. He invented the first alternating current (AC) motor and developed AC generation and transmission technology. He also created the Tesla coil, which is still used in radio technology.😀 Tesla never really cared about money; what he wanted most was to provide free electricity to the world. However, such a project needed investors and, despite having found them, they eventually started to doubt his system.
