The Raven - Edgar Allan Poe 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 💢Being the second Poes work I read, I gotta admit that I expected it to be darker and scarier. 💢Undoubtedly his use of language is amazing and every sentence written is extremely clear and with a heavy charge of mourn. ☠️Upon research, I realized he wrote this poem after his wife died of tuberculosis, which made me see the beauty of it and how he was trying to let go and overcome the situation. 🇲🇽📚📚📚 El cuervo - Edgar Allan Poe 4/5⭐⭐⭐⭐ 💢Este es el segundo poema que leo del autor y debo admitir que esperaba que fuera más obscuro y terrorífico. 💢Sin duda tiene un uso del lenguaje increíble y cada enunciado escrito nos hace sentir exactamente el mensaje de la historia, que va directo al duelo. ☠️Al investigar, me di cuenta que Poe escribió este poema después de que su esposa murió de tuberculosis. Io ho sempre nutrito una grande passione per questo tipo di racconti. Una delle mie fantasie infantili era quella di camminare in un bosco al chiaro di luna ed imbattermi in un sentiero erboso punteggiato da centinaia di lucciole. Di scovare sotto al muschio una fata addormentata. Di sorprendere allinterno della cavità di un albero uno gnomo intento a fumare la pipa. . . Anche crescendo questa attrazione per le creature magiche non è diminuita ma semmai si è evoluta nella voglia di documentarmi, di capire e conoscere quali fossero le leggende più famose, quali le differenze culturali nel mondo a proposito di piccolo popolo. . . Per quanto riguarda il folklore europeo il libro Fate, illustrato splendidamente da Brian Froud ed Alan Lee, è quanto di più bello per gli occhi possiate trovare. What shows/movies get you in an autumn mood? For me, it’s basically any gloomy Victorian period piece or historical fiction 🍂 This show (“The Alienist”) is based off a book a novel of the same name by Caleb Carr, son of Lucien Carr. I just watched the film “Kill Your Darlings,” which is a movie about Allen Ginsberg and his friend, Lucien Carr. prompt : reasons why my dark shadows are poetical by @_writing.chaos_ tw: self harm, death, poisoning ----------------------------- metaphors are synonymous with ashy paint peeling off chipped cracked walls of rundown houses at the outskirts of town. my best friend tells me those houses are haunted, she tells me my poems arent. but I see the fear brimming beneath her onyx lashes when she sees my blanched eyes glinting like the club lights that haunt her sleep. the stigmatas decorating my arms are the reasons why my dark shadows are poetical enough to be mistaken for art. my ichor flows out in burgundy rants, coating my skin with 7.4 pH fluids appearing on broken bathroom tiles of those houses each time the residents slice the snares binding their hearts to the rest of their anatomy when they enact gruesome scenes that makes my mind sing rhapsodies in glee. the veins on my skin look like cuscutas, blooming from the essence of my crimson cardiac, suffocating my lungs each time they wrap themselves around my nimble frame. the venom that courses through them seeps into my plasma and churns my cells till they reek of the heartbreaks i felt back when I believed in love. my pallor turns cerulean till I am but a vessel dipped in poison, devoid of breath. thats how my best friend finds me, a fuselage of glacial skin and mauve swathes, lying insensate on her bathroom tiles in a pool of the fluid saturated in memories of haunted houses and club lights and gory evenings as the the last molecules of oxygen (read: art) egress my soul and make me fall prey to the shadows that the world mistakes for poetry. ~aishvarya// my poetry is not art - @sheisvarya on Instagram

Kendimi ana karakterin yerine koymak istedim ama zaman zaman beni çıldırttı. Çok güzel bir karakterdi ama hiçbir şeye karşı çıkamaması sürekli kendini güçsüz hissetmesi beni yordu ve karamsarlığa sürükledi. ☀️☀️ Karakteri hafif Clarissaya benzettim. Bana öyle geldi biraz sessiz karakterler olduğu için ve alçakgönüllülerdi de. Konusu biraz geç açıldı bence sonlarına doğru akıcılaştı ve asıl olayı gördük. I don’t usually write about contemporary books. Time makes review shade into analysis, where I am more comfortable. For a book as popular and recent as The Secret History, I worry there is discourse I’m not privy to -- will I come off as trite, repeating often repeated observations? Or, will I step on toes? But, I can’t resist talking about TSH. It’s a book I’m too fond of, and a community I have planted myself into. It only seems right. I first read TSH in college. I remember as I was reading the prologue, I was swept up in Tartt’s prose -- effortless but solid, perfectly paced and planned, like a marble statue so dynamic and fluid that you can’t believe it is stone. And how tempting, how romantic was the picture: escape, fabricate, delve into some terrible new world. Tartt is able to capture the moment when, poring over some text in the library, the obscure begins to unravel and open. But, the more you uncover, the less you know, the greater the gaps between our understanding seem. In the same way, the more I read The Secret History, the more opaque it is to me. Maybe it’s simply because I’m older, but I find myself wanting to dig a little deeper beyond the facades, and find that I can’t. The Dionsysian revelry is deeper than just Bacchanals. He was the god of theatre, as well. Every character is playing an act, reciting lines that veil themselves, putting on masks of intellectualism, aestheticism. And, although the Secret History is a long, thorough book, it does not reveal everything -- and maybe that’s why I keep coming back to it, to see where the masks slip. ☕️ i want to thank @hearthandhammer for gifting me these lovely candles. each candle in this collection corresponds to a call number in the library of congress, which i think is a perfect bookish touch. they smell absolutely lovely. i’m going to purchase the autumn candle — it’s one of the few pumpkin candles my boyfriend enjoys! 🍂 - @caffeaulait on Instagram

⚡️Final HP Candle Restock⚡️ UPDATE: SOLD OUT! Thank you all so much! I will post the total donation shortly! 🥰 . Candles are up in the shop now! Thank you for your patience in waiting for this restock as I caught up on orders! Sorry for the wait! As I posted in my stories a while ago, I will no longer be selling HP candles in my shop due to JK Rowling’s numerous and continued harmful attacks on the trans community. I still believe we can continue to love HP without supporting the author but it is also hard to separate the art from the artist. In any case, I will still be discontinuing them from my shop. (You can buy HP merch from a million other places but if you do so I suggest buying unlicensed fan-made merch from a small business so no money goes to JKR) . For every HP candle purchased, 100% of the profits will be donated to the Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center ( @bradburysullivanlgbtcenter ). There are so many great places to donate to but I decided to support this amazing local non-profit here in the Lehigh Valley. The Bradbury-Sullivan center provides enriching arts & culture programs, health programs, LGBT youth programs, critical supportive services, a Training Institute, and organizes the region’s annual pride festival (which will be virtual this year!). You can check out their incredible work at bradburysullivancenter.org ! . I am making as many candles as I am able to with my remaining supplies so there will be less of some scents than others. This is the last time to snag Three Broomsticks, Pumpkin Pasties, Espresso Patronum, Dark Arts, and Forbidden Forest (though I am thinking of renaming this one to keep the scent!). Oscar Wilde may not be the first writer that comes to mind when it comes to anti-colonialist literature, but The Picture of Dorian Gray holds possible veiled criticism of British Colonialism. Although Wilde was rather prejudiced against England’s colonized states (save for his birthplace, Ireland, where he staunchly favored Home Rule), he did not shy away from criticizing English Victorian mania for “collecting” artifacts. Dorian compulsively buys artifacts & “exotica” -- from antiques to performers to flowers -- to quell his urge for new experiences and sensations and to quiet the growing anxiety over his decrepit portrait. His obsessive hoarding parallels contemporary Victorian colonialists who infamously stole and hoarded artifacts for their museums and personal collections as the British Empire began to wane and decay. Dorian’s preoccupation with materialism to distract from his own portrait, Roger Platizky notes is, “analogous to a colonizer’s simultaneous fascination and contempt for the people he colonizes. Dorian feels thrilled and appalled by the ‘terrible portrait whose changing features showed him the real degradation of life.’” Maybe Wilde was showing a potential trajectory of the British Empire -- an embrace of materialism and “exotica” to obscure its own internal decay (the suffering of colonized people and the Industrial working class.) 🍂 I remember seeing the trailer of “Kill Your Darlings” (on my laptop in this picture) in 2013, and little 16 year old baby bis-xual Rachel was intrigued to say the least. I didn’t watch it until college (I wouldn’t been allowed to and hence I didn’t ask lol) but I suppose it’s been pretty formative to my sense of style. Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again... is one of the most iconic opening line that instantly sets the mood for the book, transporting you to a different time and place till you flip the last page, and days after. I remember reading Rebecca 2 years ago for the first time and being swept by Du Mauriers rich prose capturing the essence of setting; an unsettling chill in the air, a perfect blend of eerie and gothic that never lets you put the book down, her intricate details that brought the colours alive on the page, added weight to even unhurried footsteps and give you a whole psychological build up. If you’ve read it, you know and if you haven’t, you NEED to😂It’s best to go into this one without knowing much about the plot and let Du Maurier take you by surprise. Today, random post, but I wanted to talk about tv shows/movies and the book they are based on. ⠀ ▻ Like, do you read the book first or watch the adaptation first ? ⠀ This is such an interesting question and I think a lot of people read first. ⠀ But I do the contrary. Like I NEED to see the adaptation first or else I’m bored watching it. I’ve done it for EVERYTHING. The Hunger Games, Divergent, Lord of the Rings, The Fault in our Stars, Twilight… I can quote them all! ⠀ The only one I had read the book before was After and honestly I was so bored ahah. Like I knew what was going to happen and I was like meh. Plus I find the movie really bad, so yeah. But let’s stay chill, you can like it. ⠀ The last week, I’ve watched 2 shows : Little fires everywhere and Normal people and as soon as I had finished the tv shows, I ordered the books. And I can already say that, to give you a proper review, I’ll have to reread it before. Because what a rich book and a wild read it was ! ⠀ I gave it 4.5 stars, because honestly it is SO WORTH reading it. Rebecca is a romance, a gothic novel, a mystery, there’s murder, the characters are morally grey, veryyyy complex. It is dark, eerie, gorgeous. ⠀ There is this whole atmosphere that is hard to describe in Rebecca. It is old candle holders, a sinister castle, luxurius clothes, the weight of secrets, a full moon sleepless night ; it is Manderley. ⠀ And the writing style ! My friends, I was EATING the words. Like literally. Such a gorgeous prose. ⠀ The gorgeous autumnal woodmark on the picture is from @fablesandbones. Use MAEVA10 if you wanna order something! ⠀ ▻ Is there a genre you want to explore more ? As it is autumn, I wanna read more Gothic literature. ⠀ ⠀ ─── 🍂 FRENCH 🍂 ─── ⠀ Les amis, jai fini Rebecca. Et je peux déjà dire que, pour vous donner un avis correct, je devrai le relire avant. Parce que quel livre riche et quelle lecture sauvage cétait! ⠀ Je lui ai donné 4,5 étoiles, car honnêtement, il en vaut vraiment la peine. Rebecca est une romance, un roman gothique, un mystère, il y a un meurtre, les personnages sont moralement gris, très complexes. Cest sombre, étrange, magnifique. ⠀ Il y a toute cette atmosphère difficile à décrire dans Rebecca. Ce sont de vieux bougeoirs, un château sinistre, des vêtements luxueux, le poids des secrets, une nuit de pleine lune sans sommeil; cest Manderley. ⠀ Et le style décriture! Les amis, je MANGEAIS les mots. littéralement. C’est une prose si magnifique. ⠀ ▻ Y a-t-il un genre que vous souhaitez explorer davantage?
