Eine 22 cm große fossile Sichel-Kralle – Das Werkzeug eines Jägers. Im Gang aufgerichtet, erinnert sie an die Kralle eines berühmten Verwandten: des Velociraptors. Doch dieses Exemplar ist größer, viel größer. Mit einer Länge von zwei Metern wirkt der berüchtigte Velociraptor wie ein Zwerg gegen den sieben Meter langen Top-Räuber aus dem Norden der USA. Zum Glück für den Velociraptor ist es nie zu einem Showdown gekommen, der Utahraptor lebte in der Unterkreide, der Velociraptor erst viel später in der Oberkreide. Fun Fact: Die in Jurassic Park dargestellten „Velociraptoren“ sind mehr Fiktion als Fakt. Von der Größe her, könnte es sich eher um einen Utahraptor handeln. Deswegen hat der Utahraptor auch fast den Artnamen „spielbergi“ erhalten, angelehnt an Steven Spielberg, dem Regisseur der ersten zwei Jurassic Park Filme. Der Artname „ostrommaysi“ ehrt den Paläontologen John Ostrom für seine Forschung über Deinonychus und dessen Verwandtschaft zu heutigen Vögeln. Moderne „Raptoren“ sind die flugunfähigen Kasuare. An ihren Füßen haben diese Vögel zehn Zentimeter lange dolchartige Krallen. #jawab چند لمحوں کی تسکین میں سب سے بڑا مقام انا کی تسکین کو حاصل ہے جس کے خمار میں غرق انسان اپنے اندر ایک غرور اور تمکنت محسوس کر رہا ہوتا ہے اور اس محسور کن کیفیت سے لطف اندوز ہوتے ہوئے مخمور ہوتا چلا جاتا ہے۔ مگر ایک بات سے بے خبر رہتا ہے کہ اس خمار کی شدت زائل ہونے کے بعد تقویت شدہ اضطراب ابھرے گا۔ ٹھیک ویسے ہی جیسے تلخیوں سے مضطرب انسان حصول طمانیت کیلیے نشہ کرتا ہے اور اس نشے کے خمار میں خود کو زمان و مکاں سے بالا تصور کر رہا ہوتا ہے مگر اس نشے کا اثر زائل ہوتے ہی ان تلخیوں میں احساس ندامت کا اضافہ ہو چکا ہوتا ہے جو اس انسان کو مزید مضطرب کر دیتی ہے۔ گناہ و ثواب کا معاملہ تو انسان اور رب کا معاملہ ہے۔ اور رب نے انسان کے لیے توبہ کی راہ بھی بہت آسان رکھی۔ اور اس کے قبول ہو جانے پر دل میں سکون بھی اتار دیا کرتے ہیں۔ وہ تو الْغَفُورُ و الشَّكُورُ ہیں، الرَّحْمَنُ و الرَّحِيمُ ہیں۔ مگر انا پرستی، غرور اور تکبر تو انسانوں سے معاشرت میں جنم لیتے ہیں ۔ اس کا حصار بھی انسانوں سے معاملات میں کھینچا جاتا ہے۔ اور پھر انسانوں میں تو اکثر اتنا ظرف نہیں پایا جاتا کہ انا پرست انسان کے اس انا کے خمار سے نکل آنے کے بعد اس کے مزید مضطرب ٹوٹتے بدن پر ترس کھائیں۔ یہ چند لمحوں کا غرور اور انا کی تسکین ہمارے وجود کو مزید کھو کھلا کر کے ہمیں ہمارے ہی وجود کے کھنڈرات میں اس بے بےرحمی سے پٹختی ہے کہ ہمارے لیے اپنے ہی وجود کو سمیٹنا دشوار ہو جاتا ہے۔ اور انسانوں سے رحم کی اپیل تو بے سود معلوم پڑتی ہی ہے، مگر وہ بھی ناپسندیدگی اور لا تعلقی کا اظہار کرتے نظر آتے ہیں جن کے رحم کے سمندر لا انتہا ہیں۔ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يُحِبُّ مَنْ كَانَ مُخْــتَالًا فَخُــوْرَۨا بیشک اللہ تکبر کرنے والے اترانے والے کو پسند نہیں کرتا۔ النساء 36 تحریر: عاطر علی سید - @atiralisyed on Instagram

DM me if you’re interested in one! • • As peaceful protestors continue taking to the streets, police forces around the country are adamant they demonstrate their “power” over the citizens they’re sworn to protect. This is disgusting. • • Over the last 30 years, national police funding has jumped from about $40 billion to $115 billion. However, in more recent years, reports of violent crimes have been on a downward trend as these police budgets skyrocket. And to what end? • • In 2014, no officers of the NYPD were indicted for the murder of Eric Garner. However, the NYPD did enact a “slowdown” on “proactive policing”. • • During the 7-week slowdown, complaints of major crimes went down almost 6%, with 2,100 fewer crimes being reported. • • In 2019, Daniel Pantaleo (the officer directly responsible for Eric Garner’s death) was fired, and another Slowdown took place. Let me add that the NYPD enacted these slowdowns *thinking* it would show New Yorkers how much they needed proactive policing (AKA broken window policing). However, they proved themselves wrong, again. In the first week of the 2019 Slowdown, the NYPD made 27% fewer arrests and 29% fewer summons. • • People do not NEED police. Police incite violence. Campaign Zero’s #8cantwait project seeks to immediately implement restrictions on police use-of-force. • • Continue putting on the pressure to restrict, defund, and eventually dismantle the police force as it currently exists. Educate. Donate. Protest. Do what you can to fight for justice. While many movie posters featured the star’s face with a catchy title and nice copy hook, movies without a bankable actor or actress had to entice their audiences differently. That was Kastel’s challenge. (First-time director Steven Spielberg was an unknown, as were its average-looking, lesser-known stars Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider.) The artwork had to sell Jaws on the promise of the story. Specifically, Kastel teased the features and benefits of buying a ticket to see a giant shark eat people, including a naked lady. Debilitated vocables on the sheets of yellow crinkly epistles are my sublunary disabled and distressed children , breathing spilled ink instead of oxygen. They flicker as the shadows of mango leaflets gyrated on their facial profile; chant the crushed sonnets of Shakespeare and recite the unfinished eclogues on my undelivered letters. • 𝗟eft unuttered were those phrases enveloped by the walls of my cryptic room. Crouching behind the windows, the voices stitched my skin you lacerated, not with a needle but with anaphoras and sestinas. 𝗘loquent yellowback wrapped in a monograph of my muted yelps and sojourning droplets of aqueous swirling down my cheekbones. 𝗧apestries decorated with wallflowers and white roses from my garden dessicated at the juncture of 3 oclock past midnight with trepidation as a dazzling clobber as I changed paragraphs and attached iambics. 𝗧alismans ushered tribulations and misfortunes rather than blessings of the 𝘔𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘴 𝘛𝘰𝘶𝘤𝘩. Skimming through the profanity of my bland and cold calligraphy, a battle of verses and rhymes got me abandon my secret doorways with unblemished gravestones. 𝗘ccentric chitter of queer avifauna fluttering above my deserted attic, peeking into the alley of broken nibs of fountain pens. I inscribed dimensions in those sheets , camouflaging everything I carved with pieces of flesh. 𝗥ampaging around the alphabets, my children bawled out of hunger for ardour and vehemance to flow out of my pen through my fingers. But oh , how do I tell them? Those werent fingers but ordnance carrying fire and ancient debris. 𝗦emantic avoidance of my handling axioms, contrived overt lies, which I told my little ones.
