It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable”- Socrates • Tomorrow kicks off Archery season here in Colorado and I’m very excited for the opportunity to get re grounded with nature, challenge myself mentally, and put my fitness to work. • I can say I am going into this season in the best shape of my life! • Last year for my first archery season in Colorado I weighed 195lbs and I quickly realized that all that city muscle I had from Baltimore was only hindering me in the mountains. From moving slower to extra pressure on my joints. • So this year I had a goal of getting into the 170’s weight wise and today I weighed in at 178! Goal accomplished. • I believe there’s a few key ingredients everyone needs to obtain fitness goals. • 1. Write it out - what you put into words on a consistent basis has a way of manifesting itself into reality • 2. Make those goals reverse engineer-able. Aka don’t just say I want to lose weight, set a target that’s realistic and now you have a direct path towards success. 2lbs per week for x amount of weeks and I’ll be at my goal. • 3. Have the vision- you have to envision where you want to go, how you want to feel, and what you want to do. If you don’t have a vision, again you don’t have a target. • 4. STAY CONSISTENT! Are there going to be times you feel like saying eff it? Of friggin course. But what’s worth obtaining in our lives is never going to be easy, static, or come without roadblocks. The real progress is made in moments when you don’t feel like working towards your goals yet you still get the work done. That creates success. • Having a vision to work towards to, a timeline to obtain it, and consistent action will get ya to where ya wanna go. • And lastly, to that quote above, whatever phase you’re in in life, push your body to its limits with a purpose. This practice that may seem marginal to you has done wonders for me. It gives me hope, something to look forward to, and a body that is healthy and feels good. Not at all my usual gamer post but some of you know I’ve been down and out of commission for a while now. Looking at the evolution of my body ( and shower curtains ). It took me a crazy amount of training and hard work to get into this shape. I’ve recovered from bad injuries before but it sucks not being able to train and laying here watching my body slowly lose all its strength. One year since I was laid up dying in a hospital bed. After pulling through I came out depressed, angry and just sad for myself. 156lbs to 149lbs from May to June. This quarantine has allowed me to focus and rekindle an old friendship with fitness. I lift heavy with @coached.by.amita’s amazing and fun programs and try running/biking on my off days. Eating / portion control has been the toughest challenge since I love eating everything I cook, but I’ve made huge strides in getting a better grasp that. Seeing these before and after photos earlier this week gave me a feeling of accomplishment and encouragement that hard work and dedication can pay off. Im looking forward to seeing more changes in the upcoming month but for now I’m living in the moment, enjoying living my best life right now with my newfound stamina, strength and motivation. There’s truly something special about seeing positive changes in yourself as an individual. Between these pictures, it’s clear to anyone that a lot changed, but what you can’t see from the picture is the largest modification of them all which was a change from within. Everyone knows that by setting goals and being consistent that change is inevitable, yet it’s interesting to me to see people complain day in and day out and expect change WITHOUT effort. 🎯Post workout update after 3 days on the new diet. It’s a lot more food then I’m used to eating but my body seems to be putting it straight to use. Not to mention I feel this is necessary to keep up with my style of training. As of now everything seems to be moving in the right direction. One area of improvement this time around is bring in my midsection. Improving my digestion is obviously a must but I also been working on my waist control in general. Weather I’m resting in between sets , watching tv, mentally I’m focusing on proper poster and tight abs. Waist line is already much tighter considering I’m 4 meals in plus 4 litter in. Physique wise we will be bringing something completely different this time around. As far as conditioning ,, well we know what we need to do and dieting is never an issue. Definitely pleased with the new tissue that’s being added and quality as well. The secret to how I went from 245 lbs to having a 6 pack... Everyone says abs are made in the kitchen, yet every also wants to know which abs workouts work best. One of the questions I get asked often is what I do or have done to get the definition I have in my torso. The secret is to remove the finish line and realize this is an infinite game... Build the life, the habits that align with the things you want and the rest will take care of itself. Abs are a lagging indicator... Like any lagging indicator the only way to hit your target is to identify the leading indicators that will guarantee forward progress. Things like consistency with your nutrition and activity. You don’t have to eliminate everything from your intake or workout like a mad man. Consistency beats intensity every time. Especially if the intensity leads to burn out. Pick a pace you can keep and run your race. If you have any questions about how to set yourself up to keep moving forward I’m here to help. Yeah, don’t get too excited. This is me but also not me. That’s what I used to be like some time ago. Then some issues happened, I’ve lost the body I was so proud of and now, luckily, I’m on my way to get it back. Last year, I started a clinical trial for a new cystic fibrosis drug known as Trikafta. While I’m incredibly grateful for the stability this drug has brought to my pulmonary health, it is important for me to talk about the downside it has had on my digestive well-being. In all reality, it is still somewhat of a mystery to me and my care team as to why this has been occurring to me since about a month after the start of my Trikafta journey, but I’ve been suffering quite a bit of abdominal bloating, that is not only less than appealing, but is also physically very uncomfortable at times. For what I’m about to say, I don’t mean to appear brash or insensitive as I’m forever appreciative of all the support I have from my closest friends and family, however, making statements like, You look fine, or Your stomach isn’t THAT bad, or You’re just overreacting, you’re great, is NOT helpful. It’s hard enough on my mental well-being to have to associate this gastrointestinal abnormality with one of the greatest medical advancements in my lifetime, not to mention the downplaying of something so personal to me and my body image from most everyone around me who is so dutifully concerned with my health. I don’t say this to snag emotional support, but rather to get this incredible burden off my chest, as it has been itching at me for over a year now, and I’ve simply been bottling it up in the sake of doing my best to not inflict my personal problems on others. Back in January, I took the photo on the left because I had noticed that I had fallen off the wagon and re-developed the same poor eating habits that I had kicked a couple of years ago. The goal was to get back to a point where I looked and felt better in time for my birthday. Unfortunately, while I had made some decent progress, I caught a cold on my birthday weekend and decided to put things on hold. Then a few weeks later, I got the “flu” for the first time in my life. A month later, we were all stuck at home and with worries about potential food shortages, I decided to put the diet on hold while I stocked up on whatever I could get a hold of without having to left my house. I ended up falling right back where I was pre-pandemic. But in the last few months, I was finally able to find the motivation to stick to routine that work for me and I’m in a place that’s even better than where I was two years ago. I’ve been able to eat healthier and stay active, all without ever leaving my house. Yesterday was my 49th Birthday and was going to post this picture then but I chickened out , but decided to feel the fear and do it anyway, I’ve learned to do that which makes you most uncomfortable is the nest way to push yourself. The pic on the left was the beginning on Feb2020 and right pic was taken on my birthday 15th July. The other factor in me choosing to post this pic today is that I was inspired to do so my seeing someone else’s transformation. This has not just been a physical one but also a mental transformation too. My unexplainable ill health had been caused by a build up of work stress and without realising it . I had conversations with friends that were going through extremely though times last year ( @markisntabarber & @therealbillyboy ) I started to piece together my own issues once a had an understanding of this through a few counselling sessions late last year. Then I started to work on my health starting with diet I went vegetarian last Oct2019 and very quickly lost around 7lbs /3.5kg but it wasn’t until then end of Jan this year when I decided to take things more seriously, I stopped drinking, started running 5k 3 times a week and began looking more closely at what I was eating . I was then introduced to Herbalife products ( yes that’s right I’m that guy, this is not an advert just me hoping to inspire ) then #LOCKDOWN #COVID19 happed and I had nothing to do but run. Running then became a problem due to massive inflammation to my knees so I took up bike riding and then after reading “Finding Ultra” by @richroll I started to play around with my diet and slowly went more plant base , dairy and gluten free the inflammation in my knee disappeared the weight flew off, my runs and bike rides become longer and easier I had more energy. I then read “Can’t Hurt me “ by @davidgoggins and my mindset changed again . Fast forward to today I’m stronger ,leaner,faster healthier my mind is strong . I hope if you managed to read this to the end that you take some inspiration from it as I have from others . You know what sucks? 😤 Working hard for something and then watching it/letting it all slip away. During quarantine, I worked my ass off to get in the best shape of my life. After accomplishing it, I got a little bit too carried away with rewarding myself for a job well done. I went on camping trips and trips to the lake where fitness wasn’t a big focus. My business experienced great growth and that consumed a lot of my time. Finally, I had two injuries come up that stopped me from working out consistently. It became very easy to become a victim. Blaming the trips for why my fitness was slipping. Not having enough time in the day to workout, because I had work to do. I let my injuries not only dictate my workout schedule but my eating habits and dedication as well. There comes a point where I need to be accountable for it all. Everything that I do, everything that happens to me, is a result of my actions. It was my choice to loosen up on my diet and training. It was my choice to solely focus on work and put my own fitness goals in the passenger seat. It was my lack of warming up, doing mobility work, stretching which ultimately led to my injuries. Today’s the day I take ownership. If you want to change something about yourself or your reality, you just need to start. You don’t have to be perfect. You will mess up. You will fall off the wagon. You will lose motivation. You will question your ability or capabilities of doing so and so. If you start and mess up, it isn’t failing, it’s only a bump on the road to success. Do yourself a favour and just go after what you want today to get the ball rolling. Do one task, get one win, reach out for help, get a friend to hold you accountable, stop being a victim and fight for what you want. The breath These pictures were taken by the great @celestpereirayoga As we discussed the human body during anatomy/biomechanics lecture and how bad posture effects the the way in which we breathe. Now this slouched forward head posture could be the reason my chest is “tight” and my neck is sore making it hard for me to breathe thus leaving me feeling anxious and out of breath. PROGRESS UPDATE! . . . Went from 11.9% BF a month ago to 10.3%. Lost 4lbs of fat (and 1.5lbs of muscle but that’s not too bad! 😀) . . . Photos show a comparison from 1 Year Ago. 14lbs difference in weight at the SAME body fat %. Roughly 9lbs are muscle, the rest is water and glycogen/food. . . . This past year I was finally able to adjust programming and diet from what I’ve learned the last few years since making my fitness training aesthetic focused. I want to give a big shout out to @rpstrength for all their knowledge (especially from @vitaminphd and @rpdrmike articles and videos). When I look at Liam learning how to walk, wobbling along unsteadily but smiling through it, determined to get his body to do what his brain is telling it to do, I am reminded of life. Dreams. Goals. I am my own worst critic, and let me tell you, I am MEAN to myself. Not intentionally. But there is this strong voice inside - let’s call her Stella (no offense to anyone named Stella - that’s just the first name that came to mind). Whenever I’m trying to reach a goal or set out to do something new, something I’ve never done before, Stella screams her terrible screams and roars her terrible roars and says, “Lauren Ashley Lobley. Who do you think you are? You can’t do that! You don’t have anything important to say. You don’t know what you’re doing. You are not worthy.” I know she is wrong. But my gosh, stella’s loud voice that comes in screaming, “imposter! Imposter!” is so freaking loud. I don’t her to have the last word. I want to say, “thanks for your opinion, Stella. But it’s not helpful. Now please go sit down while I take the wheel.” In case you haven’t heard, I launched a podcast a few weeks ago. It’s called @the_mom_feed and it’s a podcast about the transition into motherhood. It features raw, honest conversations about motherhood, conversations I don’t think mamas hear enough. The ones that we think we are the only ones having in our own heads. The ones that make us feel alone, full of shame, resentment, anger, and fear. I’ve never hosted a podcast before so I’m literally learning on my feet, just like Liam is doing in this video. Every one of us who walks had to learn how. So everytime Stella comes in with her bad self and tells me I can’t do it, I don’t know what I’m doing and my voice isn’t important, I think: can you imagine if when we started learning to walk, we just gave up the first time we fell? Or heck, even the 27th time? We fall. It’s what we do when we are learning - and frankly, even sometimes when we’re seasoned. But we get back up. Again and again and again. We get stronger. Transformation Tuesday: Yesterday I posted some deep shit. Today I go a little deeper. The young man on the left was closed, afraid and full of anger and hate for the world. He acted like he was confident, pretended that he was tough and thought he knew everything. Little did most people know, I was absolutely terrified. ⠀ My biggest challenge was not obesity, or sickness of the body, it was of the mind. I was on antipsychotic medication for anxiety and depression and could not stop my crazy mind from making me think everyone and everything was against me. I was closed to love from others, and more importantly love from myself. ⠀ The picture on the right is what fitness did for me. When I talk about knowing how hard it is to love on yourself, take care of yourself, and honour yourself, I am speaking from experience. I am speaking from my heart. I know because I have been there. ⠀ Fitness turned me into the hero of my own life’s journey. It made me the superhero of my state. It got me off drugs, both prescribed and illicit, and taught me how to take charge of my mind and connect in deeper with my body. ⠀ We all have our own challenges, that take numerous shapes and forms. And for the most part, their infections live in our inability to truly love ourselves and believe that we are worthy of FEELING great. ⠀ My clients are not results on a statistics board. - 2 week transformation of no training and barely eating. Obviously I’m flexing more in the left picture and the lighting is better but I still lost about 15 lbs.

So excited to be competing in my first National NPC show in 4 weeks in Pittsburgh!!! This is extremely special to me as my dad who came to many of my shows passed away from a tragic bicycle accident in February, and I know he would be proud of me for earning my pro card. Not to mention the distraction that comes from diving into back to back preps, and the level of conditioning and prep required for a national show has helped to cope with the loss. What is even cooler is my wife @jhoi_to_the_earth is also competing in the show going for her pro card in Masters Bikini!!! It’s no secret that fitness plays a large role in my life, but so many people assume that’s where my passion has always lied and, therefore, that I haven’t personally experienced the challenges of my own weight loss journey. ⁣ ⁣ After I stopped playing football in college, the lifestyle I had known for 15+ years completely changed. I went from burning around 2500 active calories per day to essentially burning 0 (active cals), without adjusting my diet. Before I knew it, not only was I 40lbs overweight but I had never been more insecure, discouraged, or unhappy.⁣ ⁣ I felt defeated, sitting there after years of hard work and dedication to my craft as an athlete, with absolutely nothing to show for it and no idea how to get myself back on track. After months of these emotions piling up, I channeled my frustration into determination, learning everything I could about the relationship between diet + exercise, healthy weight loss solutions, and the human body as a whole. ⁣ ⁣ At the time, I was still getting acclimated to a traditional 9 to 5 work schedule and needed to construct a plan that was going to be realistic for me to follow, while still yielding results. So I quit all of my gym memberships, compiled my research, and created my own exercise circuits and an overall plan that could be accomplished from the comfort of my home. After finally committing to this journey, I lost all the weight I had previously gained, significantly reduced my BMI, and finally learned how to make a healthy lifestyle change. ⁣ ⁣ I wanted to find a way to share what has done wonders for me so (pre-quarantine) I created “The Garage Guide” - a digital booklet filled with the same exercises and regiment that I still use to this day. The guide contains a resource page with links to exercise demonstrations, as well as circuits for each fitness level. 186 lbs - 165.2 lbs TRANSFORMATION!     •     End of Phase 2 of this lil fat loss journey of mine. I’ll push for another 3-5 lbs from here but as promised I’ll show you guys what exactly I did.      •     - Macro counting: knowing exactly how much to eat on a daily/weekly basis is obviously your very first step.         - Stress management and recovery: this is a big one! Being on a strict calorie deficit, the last thing you wanna do is push training volume. Big mistake! Volume induced muscular fatigue and stress so this means doing more volume than you’d normally do before you start a diet wouldn’t give you any benefit other than breaking down muscle tissue and possibly waste lean body mass (your hard earned muscle!) Your goal is to maintain strength and muscle. So instead of doing a fuck load of volume like 3x15-20 I’d rather do 3x8-10 with heavy weights or if you’re a powerlifter what I’ve been doing is a single and 2x4 that’s it!         - Part 2: Sleep! If you ain’t sleeping adequately you won’t recover enough to maintain strength and muscle. I have a very bad insomnia and especially with me dieting it only gets worse. So smoking weed helps me fall asleep easier!        - Metabolic adaptation: This is when your calorie intake matches your daily expenditure. What to do and how to avoid this? Implement DIET BREAKS! It’s periods of eating at maintenance to improve weight loss/fat loss efficiently, better lean body mass retention and basal metabolic rate retention. This is something I’ve picked up from Layne Norton years ago!       - Adherence: This is all personality base. I’m a perfectionist so personally I count every macros to the T! (Almost) 60 Miles, a New 10 Year Challenge and new shorts! ⁣ ⁣ 57.72 miles and 2254ft of climbing to be exact....done very very slowly! ⁣ Super chuffed I managed this but man was it tough. My big bro and I have done a few training sessions in the Chiltern Hills recently to help build up my strength and despite still being much slower than every other cyclist on the road it seems to be paying off. ⁣ ⁣ Just a few months ago I was high fiving my wife for being able to ride just 7 miles and now here I am cycling 50 miles and up hills! It never ceases to amaze me just how adaptable the body is. ⁣ ⁣ I felt physically sick after this one but I think it’s because I didn’t take in enough food or water during the ride. Will take more next time. ⁣ ⁣ I burned 4000 calories so once again I need to eat and drink more during and afterwards. I’m burning far more calories than i’m taking in which is not great for endurance, recovery or my weight. ⁣ ⁣ As you can see in the pic I’m wearing a fetching Lycra outfit called bib shorts (don’t worry a cycling top goes over the top;). My other shorts were cutting into the veins on my side (see pic) and as these veins carry the blood back from my legs to my heart I was worried that it might compromise blood flow. ⁣ ⁣ I had this problem when carrying a back pack when travelling as the waist support (which is meant to take all the weight) went directly over these veins. It meant I had to take most of the weight on my shoulders, which others with DVT will testify, wasn’t great on my shoulders or back. ⁣ These incredibly (un)sexy bib shorts don’t have elastic as they are held up by the shoulder straps and therefore don’t tighten around my veins. ⁣ ⁣ So with my new shorts and with RideLondon 100 cancelled big bro and I have been discussing other challenges to celebrate 10 years all clear. ⁣ ⁣ We mapped out a multi day ride but the logistics and costs along with the uncertainty over Covid-19 were just too much so we’ve settled on Ride 101! ⁣ 101 miles in one day but on this performance it’s looking like a gargantuan undertaking. ⁣ ⁣ Route to be announced! ⁣ Onwards and upwards!⁣ ⁣ X ⁣ #dvt #cycling #cancer @macmillancancer - @101survive on Instagram
