My second album is 17 today!!! - Feel old yet??!! Did you know it was released 3 times, hence the different covers? Each time they added or changed something. But today is the official release date x Thought I’d give you some interesting facts about the videos for the singles I released!! • •BOUT: This video is actually the second attempt as the first one was a mess 😩 It was my first video after having Téja and I was super self conscious. Rah Digga was actually In the first video, but wasn’t available the second time around 🤦🏾♀️ • •SUPERSTAR - I didn’t want to record superstar as it was a cover of the Danish pop idol’s winning song. Subsequently, Denmark boycotted me. Don’t think I’ve ever charted there with anything 😩 It’s a bit mad, because I love Denmark...really beautiful place ❤️ • •THANK YOU - I wrote this title track after an argument, it began as “F*ck You” and I decided to change it to “Thank You” once I’d calmed down 😭 Also, I chose this video director because he also did Mary J Blige’s “I’m Going Down” video🤗 • •SEE IT IN A BOYS EYES - My favourite ever video, we shot this in Cuba. My “love interest” on this video asked me to marry him. He was dead serious 😳 I said no. • •DJ - This wasn’t supposed to be a serious single. It was a “double a side” with a cover I did for Bridget Jones diary, Surprisingly, it became my 4th consecutive top 10 spending 12 weeks on the charts! • • Feel free to stream/download buy etc. As of LAST year, I finally started to receive my royalties...long story short the record industry are crooks, but that’s a WHOLE other story...❤️ • • I want to thank anyone who bought this album or any of my songs. “Dance is not an exercise. Dance is an art.” Alicia Alonso (1920-2019) was a Cuban ballet dancer who demonstrated extraordinary range & passion throughout her long career. Though perhaps best known for her dynamic portrayals of principal roles, especially “Giselle,” her leadership & lasting contributions to the dance community—even after significant vision loss—further elevated her legacy. Alonso was born in Havana, Cuba to parents Antonio Martínez & Ernestina Hoya, & was the youngest of four siblings. She studied dance as a child, but was not encouraged to pursue a professional career until she moved to New York in 1937 with her husband, Fernando. In New York, she appeared in several dance works including the Broadway musicals “Great Lady” (1938) & “Stars in Your Eyes.” (1939) She attended The School of American Ballet (@sab_nyc) & joined the Ballet Theatre (later renamed American Ballet Theatre) as a founding member in 1940. In 1942, after several surgeries for a detached retina, while on bedrest her teachers coached her through the steps of “Giselle” as she rehearsed mentally with her fingers. Later in her career, with further loss of her vision, she used the glare of the stage lights to guide her. She returned to Havana in 1948 & founded Ballet Alicia Alonso, later renamed the National Ballet of Cuba (@balletnacionaldecubaoficial). The company received wide acclaim, appearing in international tours & dance festivals. In 2015 I got a call from my dear friend @alimahdaviparis 👌🏻🙌🙌💥💥✨a great genius artist/photographer who combines profound knowledge of HOLLYWOOD glamour with an exquisite awareness of contemporary art. He wanted me to transform the beautiful @kylieminogue 💖💖🙌🙌 into Marlene Dietrich for a special edition of @sorbetmag 🔥We flew to LA for the photo shoot and we had between 11:00 am - 5:00pm to do hair makeup styling eat lunch and get 8 shots! 😱 Ali said “Phyllis you have to be fast! You have to finish in less than 90 minutes. So I started to prep the brows as the amazing hair stylist @officialdanilohair 🙌🙌did his incredible part of the transformation. As soon as @kylieminogue sat in my chair I went straight in with dark brown eye shadow to redraw her eyelids. As you will see from the 4th slide I had done a careful “portrait” of Dietrich’s features over Kylie’s so I had a good idea of exactly what needed to be redrawn and where! The Makeup had to be subtle but very effective! And had to work from angles too! Kylie was amazing🙏✨💥 such a beautiful sweet woman with such poise 😩 And to watch her and @alimahdaviparis create magic in front of the camera was one of the most memorable few hours I have ever had in my career 😭😭😭.
