Everyone always told me that each pregnancy is different. I have always been a firm believer if you tell yourself everything is going to be okay- it will! When it comes to being pregnant 🤰 I have realized you have ZERO control. - - - The first 10 weeks was a breeze! Then the excitement started. I was diagnosed with a Subchorionic Hemorrhage. I was told to stop spinning and take it easy at barre. Unfortunately it didn’t end there. I had an underlining breathing issue that got increasingly worse with pregnancy. If you feel like something is wrong listen to your heart and advocate for yourself!! - - - Three doctors later I ended up at UCLA three different times in mix the of the Corona virus madness but I’m happy to report I can breathe again. One day shy of 29 weeks pregnant I had surgery to fix my VERY narrow airway. It’s been said that fear of failure is fear of growth. It can be pretty painful when things don’t go as planned, but when I failed at shooting one of my very first events without charging my batteries for my flash, it taught me to NEVER shoot another event or session without charging batteries and to ALWAYS carry extra batteries in my bag. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Learning that lesson totally sucked big time, but I wouldn’t trade that wisdom for the world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned by failing at something? We started using upholstery fabrics in 2017 after a bulk deadstock purchase (we don’t order rayon textiles, but we will use end rolls or textiles that have been sitting around known as “deadstock”), and have made a few jackets in this textile since then. We intended to use this textile for our Fall 20 collection, but since our production had to shift due to Covid, we’ve decided to develop new pieces.⠀ ⠀ Our co-founder Davora really wanted a tracksuit in this textile after seeing it in last year’s Holiday collection, so we’ve been working on a Chenille coat and pant set. We love how it’s coming along, and in a fitting for it, Davora put the jacket on upside down by mistake and we all loved it! And you know us; we love a style that can be worn in more ways than one.⠀ ⠀ Lisa, our production manager, has been so great during Covid, she creates order from chaos makes everyone smile. Like starring in this amazing photoshoot that happened when she was cutting fabric and trying on the sample to decide what size she wanted to order.⠀ ⠀ When these textiles are dyed they become jewel-like with a beautiful sheen, and we’re wondering what colors you’d want to see? - @prairieunderground on Instagram

In der letzten Vollmond-Nacht ist Lisa, mit einem Kuss auf der Stirn von Laurin, friedlich eingeschlafen. Lisa ist ihren ganz individuellen Heilweg gegangen und ihr Tod kam plötzlich. Manchmal müssen wir das was wir am aller liebsten haben loslassen. Denn die Liebe ist frei und wir können nicht ahnen was „der richtige Weg ist“, denn es ist immer unser ganz Eigener. Lisa und ich hatten die letzten Wochen einen intensiven Sprachnachrichten-Austausch und das was ich durch Lisa die letzten zwei Jahre gelernt habe ist für mich einfach ein Geschenk. Ich hab Lisa in meinem Herzen und spüre sie ganz nah bei mir. Vielleicht schafft sie es all die Dinge, die sie sich so sehr gewünscht hat, auf einer anderen mir Unbekannten Ebene, zu leben. All das was sich Lisa in dieser Manifestation gewünscht hat ist, dass wir Frauen wieder ein ganzes Stückchen näher zusammen rücken und uns gegenseitig in unsere Kraft bringen. Lisa erzählte mir vor kurzem unter Tränen dass sie sich so sehr schämt wie sie über ihren eigenen Körper gedacht hat und dass ich dankbar sein soll für meinen Körper. Und sie hat recht. Uns wird manchmal erst bewusst was wir alles hatten, wenn wir es verlieren. Und dieser Schmerz ist so bitter, denn das Leben ist FÜR uns und will unsere Seele heilen! Ich habe Lisa für immer in meinem Herzen und ich spüre, dass es am Ende einen höheren Plan gibt und vertraue dem Leben mehr denn je! Danke Lisa für all die unfassbar wertvollen Gespräche, für die gemeinsamen Tränen und gemeinsamen Lacher aus tiefstem Herzen! Für die Tiefe Ehrlichkeit und das gemeinsame Heilen als Freundinnen -oder viel mehr als Schwestern! In was in the middle of the night during #Run4Water that I spotted a cheetah 🐆 lurking in the woods around mile 100. Of course, after doing a double-take, it was gone. Never have I ever hallucinated before during an endurance challenge until this one! It was around mile 115 that I thought I was hallucinating AGAIN when I thought I saw my Uncle Pat from Ohio. It had been over 24 hours without sleep by then, so I knew I was so completely exhausted. There was no way I could be seeing things correctly. But, no. This. Was. REAL! My Uncle Pat drove more than 20 hours round-trip to be there and show his support, he decorated the route with encouraging signs, and helped with a much- needed re-stocking of supplies that were getting low (🧻 🧻 🧻 !!) at the very end of the journey, AND he joined along for the final mile of the run. My Uncle Pat is one of many examples of people showing up in ways I never dreamed of or imagined. There are so many heroes & helpers behind the scenes of #Run4Water that have left me with a heart SO over-flowing with gratitude. Chances are, YOU have helped in some way on this journey. Maybe it’s because you shared the story, that a donation was made to the charity or you’re one of the many who have helped us reach $17,600 for Lifewater International. She has a point, but this is Alexis, so histrionics must ensue. This might be the only time I hear anyone refer to L.B. or Danny as her “grandson”. She really gives Blake and Krystle an earful before storming out, only to head back to the hospital to create more drama. GO FOR GOALS OUTSIDE OF PERFORMANCE. • Goals and athletics go hand in hand, but it can be easy to get caught up solely in performance based goals. It wasn’t until I was in college that I learned about process goals from @chris.miltenberg. Short term process goals provide feedback along the way, they add more joy and motivation to the journey, and they can help hold you accountable. An often overlooked type of process goal and outcome goal is fueling properly and getting a regular period. • Setting and prioritizing my outcome goal of getting a regular period was a game changer. It allowed me to set process goals for each day or week that helped keep me on the right track. Some days will be better than others, but consciously working toward daily or weekly goals to provide your body with the fuel it needs is crucial. Some of my process goals included: adding coconut oil to my smoothies, making an evening snack before bed part of my normal routine, making my snacks throughout the day more substantial (instead of just a piece of fruit adding nut butter to my apple and adding trail mix too), eating something in the morning before I run, adding half an avocado to my lunch or dinner, and setting reminders to not go long periods of time without eating. Setting both outcome and process oriented goals around fueling properly, getting strong, and getting a regular period have allowed me to shift my perspective and prioritize getting into a positive energy balance. Make getting your period your goal and attack it with the same drive, tenacity, and vigor with which you attack goals surrounding races, performances, and personal bests. • A lot of these goals will likely be challenging habits or thoughts that have been engrained in your head for quite some time. Start small. If you haven’t been eating snacks throughout the day, start by adding one snack. If you have cut out certain foods, add them back in. There is no such thing as “good” or “bad” foods. So if your mind has convinced you to cut out certain food groups, challenge those thoughts and add them back in. What are you wearing? 👀 Did you think about what you wore to work today? Or what your veterinarian was wearing the last time you saw them? Think it matters? Well according to a recent study in JAVMA, it does. (Coe, 2020) A study of 449 pet owners in Canada found that “veterinarians’ attire is a form of nonverbal communication that is likely to inform clients’ first impressions and may influence clients’ trust in, confidence in, and comfort with a veterinarian.” Participants were randomly assigned to complete a questionnaire containing photos of a male or female model veterinarian photographed in 8 attire types (formal attire, white dress shirt with black pants, white casual shirt with khaki pants, surgical scrubs, white casual shirt with jeans, surgical scrub top with jeans, surgical scrub top with khaki pants, and white laboratory coat with khaki pants) According to this, I am in the formal category, often with a lab coat. ➡️ Swipe to see some examples over the years. But recently in the COVID days as clients were not longer permitting in the hospital, I have been mixing it up, wearing jeans and scrubs. I recently fell in love with my new @wearfigs scrubs. (They are way nicer than the ones I had in my internship and residency - and they have pockets!) Apparently, scrubs get the highest scores! In the study, participants’ trust, comfort and confidence score were highest when the model veterinarians were pictured in surgical scrubs. Lab coats also increase trust and confidence. In contrast, comfort score was lowest when the model veterinarians were wearing formal attire, and trust and confidence scores were lowest when the model veterinarians were wearing a casual shirt and jeans. Meet Tristan Trenerry 👋 Tristan is a hake fishermen in #Newlyn. He works in the family business as the skipper of the Silver Dawn. As skipper he has to battle and negotiate the elements, to keep his crew safe. . Alongside the safety of the crew, Tristan is also focused on seafood sustainability. As an MSC certified fishery, his vessel, and the others in the fleet, increased the mesh size of their nets much higher than the minimum required by law to ensure they only catch mature fish.. Our next featured public policy #graduate is Sydney Little! During her time at Georgia Tech, Sydney has been involved in a handful of campus organizations. She joined both Well-Being Activators and VOICE Peer Education to do her part in making campus a happy, healthy place for all. She also served as the Vice President of student membership for Executive Round Table. As a member of Phi Mu, Sydney served as the Sisterhood Development chair where she was able to foster empowerment among all the women in her chapter. The summer after her freshman year, Sydney was a FASET Orientation Leader, where she got to share her love for Georgia Tech with incoming students of all majors. She was fortunate enough to spend a summer semester studying at Georgia Tech Lorraine, the experience of a lifetime! Sydney originally came into Tech as a Civil Engineer but quickly learned her passions aligned more with the Public Policy curriculum, so she switched majors and never looked back. In Spring 2018, Sydney participated in the Georgia Legislative Internship Program solidifying her love for Government and Policy. During that legislative session, she worked with the Governmental Affairs Committee and a few policy analysts who gave her a ton of hands-on experiences. This time taught Sydney so much about herself as well as the ins and outs of the political environment, and she is so thankful that Georiga Tech and the School of Public Policy provided that opportunity. Now, after 5 long and fabulous years at Georgia Tech, Sydney is finally ready to graduate! A Fighter @kickovariancancer It’s your first round of chemo - I get it, you’re terrified with all the unknowns - how sick am I going to be, how quickly is my hair going to fall out, will I feel anything while the treatment is happening??? 3 years ago today, I was you...walking in to my infusion center for the first time...a nervous smile plastered across my face, three weeks out from a pretty major surgery, skin and bones, my huge bag in tow with everything I might need. Still only the necessary people aware of what was happening...I hadn’t lost my hair yet so word wasn’t completely out that I had ovarian cancer. My advice to those heading down this path, preparing for chemotherapy is the same one my wonderful nurse and oncologist said to me the day they told me instead of 4 rounds, I’d need 6: “all you have to do is show up, and we’ll take care of everything else...just keep showing up...” and I did, every third Monday for 21 weeks (18 of which I’d receive chemo). Show up despite the fear, because you’re important and although you think you can’t do this, you can...so many of us before you have. Does it suck - oh hell yes! But you can do this - lean on your medical team, your family and friends. There are so many unknowns you can’t be prepared for, trust me and I’ll be honest, there’s not a whole lost I remember about this round except for my adverse side effects - the pre-meds knocked me out and my body hated everything about chemo from the second it started. I never really had a chance to officially retire from my sport so here it goes. Since 2018 I’ve had my nose to the grindstone and I’ve been focused on my carpentry business. One day my life was filled with red carpets, international travel, world class ski resorts and state of the art training facilities. The next day I was in work boots and a hot workshop trying to plan out my future and my career. As the months and years went by I always held a tiny bit of hope that I would one day return to competition. However the pressures of work, ongoing health problems and chronic injuries prevented that from happening. I had such a hard time letting go and because of that I felt like I never had the chance to officially say farewell. Retiring from sport can be a humbling experience to say the least. Every athlete likes to think that they’ve left behind a legacy and I often questioned whether or not I did. Especially when you see how quickly sport moves on without you. The truth is that legacies don’t live on in sport, they live on in the individuals you interact with along the way. It took me a while to understand that. Goodbye to a chapter in my life that filled me with so much joy. Being a Paralympian taught me how to push my body and mind beyond its limit, it taught me how to fail with dignity and succeed with pride but most importantly thank you for showing me the world. The biggest gift that sport gave me was the opportunity to understand and respect different cultures and ideologies around the globe. It’s literally transformed how I see people. Last but not least thank you to the most important sponsors who were by my side throughout my career. I couldn’t have done it without you. @TheHartford @DonekSnowboards and @Spectrum. What a weekend!! On Saturday I won GOLD at the Acropolis World Cup in Athens, Greece and subsequently secured a spot on my 5th Olympic Team! 🥇 It felt amazing to stand on the top of an international podium again...the last time I won a World Cup was at this same competition 4 years ago. Athens continues to be a special place for me 😇🇬🇷 It’s been a long time coming and this victory (on many levels!) feels oh so sweet. Story Time. So yesterday, me and my family were working cows on the ranch. We were running cows through the pin. I was operating a gate letting only specific cows in at a time. It was all going good until one of our big bulls came. This guy is a bit aggressive and wild. The gate I was operating had a metal piece on it. When the gate opens up, it opens up all the way and collides with another metal piece on the fence. When the bull came through the gate, my grandpa said something. I looked over. When I did so, I put my middle finger and ring finger where the two metal pieces meet. While the bull was going through, he decided to hit the gate with all his power and it crushed my fingers. My ring finger was a little beat up but my middle one took the hit. It didn’t feel bad so I wasn’t worried, but when I looked down and saw.... well some stuff, I knew I screwed it up pretty good lol. According to the doctors, my blood vessels exploded and my nail was all messed up. My bone furthest to the edge of my finger was also fractured and was sticking out at one point. But the doctors did surgery and took good care of me. Thanks to everyone for the good wishes! Luckily it wasn’t bad. 8.4.91 The gift of Olivia Buchanan. I will always mark the years and have profound gratitude that Olivia Grace Buchanan was born. Ive been reflecting today on the qualities I loved about her. The way she adored her family and friends, her hearty laugh, the way she showed her love through physical affection (wanted and unwanted), her intelligence, and her physical prowess. The attribute that strikes my heart deeply was her ability to apologize - really, truly, apologize. Not many people are able to recognize that theyve hurt another, intentionally or not, and make a sincere effort to make an amend to that person. Its a brave and vulnerable thing to do; to let the armor down and try to make it right. In honor of her spirit, I hope we can all be a little more vulnerable. Have grace, understanding and compassion for others. Love wildly, passionately, deeply and tell the people in your life that you love them. If you do, you will not have regret.
