Summit County Commits to 100% Clean Vehicle Future. As National Electric Drive Week kicked off in Colorado, the Summit County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution committing the community to 100 percent zero-emission vehicles in the community by 2050. A coalition of clean vehicle advocates applauded the County for its leadership in driving the state toward a cleaner transportation system. In the board’s unanimous approval of the resolution, Summit County joins Boulder County, the City and County of Denver and the City of Boulder in making the commitment and being recognized as a GoEV Community. As the effects of climate change increasingly impact Colorado and other westerns states, GoEV communities are seeking to set an example in tackling the single largest source of climate change pollution in Colorado by accelerating the transition to zero-emissions vehicles. “Summit County is excited to take this step during the Ninth Annual Drive Electric Week, because we want to double down on our fight against climate change,” Summit County Commissioner Karn Stiegelmeier said. “We have already made the commitment to 100 percent clean electricity, so it’s only a matter of common sense for us to fully embrace clean transportation as well. Fall Update from Waveriders: Many people ask why businesses on the Outer Banks close a day or two a week. It would be hard to give the answer for all. There are so many reasons business owners make the decision to close. I can guarantee you it has NOTHING to do with NOT wanting the business. If we could guarantee you that 7 days a week your experience would NEVER change - We would be open 7 days a week. What happens instead is the owners and/or staff would be working 7 days a week, working overtime & start to forget why they love doing what they do. There is so much to enjoy outside of work. On Monday morning, we got the call from Sonoma County Animal Services that they needed help evacuating their adoptable animals. Our Rescue team immediately jumped in the van and brought back 13 dogs that had previously been up for adoption at the Sonoma shelter. Were grateful that we were able to help, and are on standby if more of our partners need additional help. In addition to pulling animals from shelters in fire-affected areas, this week marks the second week in a row that we have sent staff and volunteers to Butte County to assist with animal care in the temporary animal shelter created due to the North Complex Fire. Each year we workout to support the Samaritan House in Annapolis. The Samaritan House supports men on their journey to an addiction free life. We honor the life and struggle of Joe Brady as well as all the lives lost too soon to addiction. We come together to share in the joy of recovery while mourning the losses. In years past, “The Joe” was a partner Workout, signifying that no one beats addiction alone. This year, because of the pandemic, it was not a partner WOD, and It was lonely. If you know someone who struggles with addiction, reach out. Check in on them, all of this social isolation is particularly difficult. Isolation and emotional distress can be triggers for relapse, and we are all feeling these right now. Relapses are up over 30%. Take a minute and just call. If you are struggling, reach out! Our 2020 summer super volunteers have been doing a great job marking the storm drain inlets along Ocean Drive! They meet two times a week to mark inlets that lead directly into our bays. The markers send a clear message for all Coastal Bend residents and visitors to read as they walk along our streets. The goal is to make residents more aware of all the litter and pollution that enter our bays through the storm water inlets. Next time you are near an inlet make sure to look for a small circular marker like the ones pictured! We got a call from a helpful neighbor letting us know about a Facebook post in @ryeryebrookmoms that mentioned the families affected by the fires in Port Chester were in need of kitchen items and toiletries. Our operations team members, Jake and Frank, quickly got these items together and stayed late this past Friday to deliver a van full of personal care supplies like toothbrushes, toothpaste and deodorant from our retail recovery program. We need to talk about MENTAL HEALTH. . Every day this week I’m going to talk about a mental health issue. ANXIETY:. . Stress and worry are a common response to a difficult or dangerous situation. Those feelings usually pass once the stressful situation has resolved. When those anxious feelings make it hard to cope with your daily life, or do not go away, or they happen without a particular reason...this may be the sign of an anxiety disorder. Anxiety can be experienced through thoughts, feelings and physical sensations. You may be feeling:. - irritable, agitated. - panicky. - worried or afraid most of the time. - nauseated. - on edge and feeling tense. - cannot sleep. - pounding heart. - poor concentration - lightheadedness. - overwhelmed. What can you do about it?. . 1.Talking therapies (psychological treatments - for example:. - positive psychology. - cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). - counselling. - online therapy programs. 2. Medications. (Talk to you doctor about medicine that may help). - SSRI, SNRI, benzodiazepines, beta-blockers, etc. . 3.
