I have been overwhelmed by kindness and gratitude for discussing my supposedly ‘early’ menopause (though I maintain it is more common in our 40s than we realise. Passing of Retired #LACoFD Chief Deputy Gary M. Lockhart It is with a heavy heart we share the passing of retired Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) Emergency Operations Chief Deputy Gary M. Lockhart. Chief Lockhart passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020, after a sudden illness, at the age of 69. Chief Lockhart retired in 2008 after 33 years of dedicated service to the LACoFD and residents of Los Angeles County. He began his career with the fire service on May 1, 1975, rising through the ranks from firefighter to Chief Deputy of Emergency Operations. Chief Lockhart’s passion for the fire service began as a young boy when he watched his father, Darryl Lockhart, promote and retire at the rank of battalion chief from the LACoFD. Chief Lockhart’s remarkable career in the fire service was impressive and all who knew him remember his exemplary leadership, commitment, and caring service to others before self. He is a mentor and friend to many. Just as impressive as his career, Chief Lockhart lived an extraordinary personal life, filled with purpose, love, and family. Chief Lockhart is survived by his beautiful and caring wife Anita, their daughters Andrea and Sarah, their son Ryan, and their grandchildren. Please keep all of them in your thoughts and prayers. Today we remember 2nd Lieutenant John “Jack” K. Lundberg of Val Verda, Utah who served with the 534th Bomb Squadron, 381st Bombardment Group Heavy, 8th Air Corps and made the ultimate sacrifice during World War II. “2nd Lt. John Keith Lundberg is the embodiment of sacrifice. Known by his nickname Jack, 2nd Lt. Lundberg dedicated his life to his family and country. He was highly esteemed by his peers and deeply loved by his family. Jack’s loss profoundly affected his loved ones. However, for Jack, making the ultimate sacrifice for the United States and freedom was worth the price. Monday 3 December 2018 marked a notable occasion for Jack. He would have turned one hundred-years-old. He could have accomplished much during that time span. Jack had a promising future, cherished ambitions, a new bride, and a devoted family. Despite these, he believed the United States was worth his sacrifice and life. Jack was deployed in the United States for the majority of his service, teaching navigation, but began flying B-17 Flying Fortresses in Europe in May 1944. A little over a month later, on 22 June, twenty-five-year-old Jack was shot down over Abbeville, France, in the B-17 Spare Charlie after it was hit by German flak. We remember Lt. Lundberg for his tremendous service and sacrifice for this country! And, thank you to Camille Noel for submitting his bio. After winning a talent contest on the television music show Bandstand she moved to the USA in 1966. Her best known song is the anthem for womens liberation, I am Woman, inspired by Australian feminist and rock journalist Lillian Roxon. With more gold records at the time than any other female artist except Barbra Streisand, at the height of her fame in the late 1970s Reddy headlined with a full chorus of backup singers and dancers to standing-room-only crowds on the Las Vegas Strip. Happy Birthday to my Dad who is up in heaven now . I have few pics of him . I never really got to experience or have the relationship with him I always wished for . I did though have a phone relationship with him and decided to cut him out of my life once I turned 18 . Then years later I got a phone call from and we developed a close relationship and I decided to let all the pass go and forgive . When we talked the conversations went on for ever . I’m so thankful to God that he put me mentally in right state of mind before he passed . God had really worked on me and it was hard . We had 6 months to catch up and then he passed . I’m am so grateful 🙏 to God he let me have closure before he took him from this earth . I lost my hero last night. The patriarch of the Landver Clan, the one who started it all, my grandpa, Alexander “Sasha” Landver. Born June 8, 1924 he was the leader of a USSR battalion responsible for killing countless nazis. Sasha showed me what it meant to be an amazing husband, a wise father, and the most selfless man I’ve ever met. The photos of Sasha and I were taken just 3 months ago at the bris of my nephew, Judah. He was strong like bull until he peacefully passed away at home in his sleep. Ok long post after a long week! Yep that paver is still on the mind! It’s National Daughter’s Day so for me that means honoring this man — my Dad - who truly is one of a kind! The mold was broken with him!! He raised three girls - God bless him! Me - as the baby - got to hunt and fish and snowmobile with him the most. My sisters did too but he was on the road a lot as a truck driver with the CB handle Boss Hog. I was Blonde Bomber! My sisters and mom had great handles too - that’s another story. Clyde (❤️) taught me how to shoot, how to bait a hook, how to be kind, charitable, how to love dogs, and also how to spot BS in two seconds (plus so much more)! His best compliment as I aged was that I was faster and better than him at spotting BS! He also taught me to hold my head high - always - and he shared absolutely everything I know and respect and live about hard work - that’s all him!! He will forever be the hardest working person I’ve ever met. He also taught me to be street smart not just book smart. I love most that he taught me to be aggressive not passive! Never be afraid to punch first or avoid the punch. Thank God for those lessons given what I do for a living. And also because I’m a - well you know - a woman!! I will never forget the day he came to school (he never knew I saw him) and confronted my guidance counselor who told me I was setting my sights too high on wanting to be a lawyer. I will leave out the other stuff the GC said to me - but later that day - when I was called to the guidance counselor’s office and he apologized - I knew - that was my Dad. And when Dad asked me about my day and if I had seen the guidance counselor I knew — he was my biggest backer - forever. So many lessons from my Dad - you are not weak, you are not less than, you are not what you look like, you are not what you learn at school - you can be whatever and whoever you want to be - you can learn what ever you want , you can love and be charitable however you want - don’t let others define you - be you and be forever proud of who you are. #nationaldaughtersday #dad #daddysgirl #grateful - @ltbuffalo on Instagram

On the 29th of January my dad passed away. He battled cancer for the second time around and this time cancer won. He fought this for years. But I will not remember the pain and how the cancer changed my dad. I will remember his fighting spirit and how he was before! He was a special character that touched a lot of people in the hockey world. It was very nice to see all the people that showed up and reached out for his funeral 2 days ago❤️ Thank you @malmoredhawksofficiella for having a tribute at your game. He would’ve loved that. Missing my mom, Gretchen Berggruen, a lot already. • • My mom taught me how kindness and compassion are true keys to happiness and to existing in this world in the most rewarding way possible. • • She battled a very challenging disease — ALS — over these past few months and I feel so lucky that I was able to be home with her and with our family in San Francisco to share in a lot of love and a lot of laughs, even through the hardship. • • I am so thankful for my mom’s always-positive attitude and her incredibly generous spirit toward all of those in her orbit. And of course for her passion for art, too, which continues to inspire me. • • My mom has passed away but she lives on in the best and brightest qualities within the many people she loved, and who love her back. • • Thank you, mom, and as I said before — I miss you a lot already. Ciao Egidio 😢 Dopo una lunga malattia si è spento nella notte tra lunedì e martedì Egidio Lotti, uno dei fondatori di San Patrignano. Al fianco di Vincenzo Muccioli sin dall’inizio, fu una figura di estrema dedizione e impegno negli anni in cui prendeva forma il metodo di recupero. . Senza riserve anche nei momenti difficili, fu saldo nella scelta di vita di dedicarsi all’impegno per il prossimo. Un impegno condiviso con la moglie Maria e il figlio Claudio, attualmente uno degli educatori del Centro minori femminile all’interno della Comunità. Per San Patrignano Egidio, originario di Cesena, rinunciò a una vita sicura e comoda per seguire come volontario Vincenzo nei primi anni Ottanta, conquistato dal grande progetto di solidarietà che divenne poi San Patrignano. Con lui furono gettate le basi dell’odierno Centro Medico, struttura sanitaria che si occupa della salute di tutti i giovani del centro di recupero. Nel tempo libero, si dedicava agli animali da cortile allevati in Comunità, che accudiva dimostrando un amore smisurato per la natura e per la vita. Something we are very interested in at @farmstofeedus is moving beyond the statement that “the food system is broken” to start thinking about the more important question of: “how do we fix it?” While it’s so important to discuss everything that has gone wrong with industrial farming, as James Rebanks ( @herdyshepherd1 ) does in his new book, English Pastoral: An Inheritance, what we are even more excited about are the other stories the book shares—the story of hope, and the story of beauty.⠀ ⠀ @herdyshepherd1 is a celebrated farmer, shepherd and writer. He’s well-known in the farming community and beyond for sharing the details of his life on the land with a huge number of followers on social media and readers of his books. In a 2015 interview with the @guardian , he said that farmers have “not shared our story enough, we didn’t see how important it was to share it”. Here at @farmstofeedus, we, too, are working to share the stories of the people who feed us with a wider audience and to cultivate a broader respect for the land and those who work with it.⠀ ⠀ English Pastoral, published earlier this week, deals with how the modernisation of agriculture has led to the near collapse of rural landscapes around the world. As we’ve become “strangers to the fields that feed us,” as Rebanks puts it, the disconnect between the cadences of our lives and livelihoods on the one hand, and the soil, plants, and animals which sustain us on the other, has grown. ⠀ ⠀ We read Rebanks’ earlier book, The Shepherd’s Life and enjoyed its close attention to detail, its evocative description of the ins and outs of the hard daily work of life on a hill farm. On this day on June 13, 1774, the Rhode Island legislature passed a law banning the importation of slaves into the colony, becoming the first of Britain’s North American colonies to do so. This law was one of the first anti-slavery laws in the United States. Before this, there were 4 different ports of entry of enslaved Africans in the transatlantic trade located in Rhode Island. However, leading merchants, including John Brown and George DeWolf, continued to engage in the slave trade. One of the leading figures in Rhode Island behind abolitionism was Moses Brown, John Brown’s brother. The Brown family owed much of their wealth to their mercantile success in the slave trade in Rhode Island. Becoming deeply disturbed by the plight of the slaves in America, in 1774 he converted from Baptist to Quaker, and threw himself upon the abolitionist cause. In 1787, he helped pass a statute forbidding anyone to outfit slave voyages in Rhode Island ports. In 1789, Brown helped found the Providence Society for Abolishing the Slave Trade to help enforce the anti-slave trade legislation. Moses Brown’s house was a major stop on the Underground Railroad. Providence was on route from New Bedford, where escaping slaves arrived by ship, to Fall River and then Rhode Island. Moses taught his son, Obadiah, to actively oppose slavery and he did just that, sponsoring free blacks to help them find employment, helped with their finances, and backed them up in legal disputes. Rhode Island eventually abolished all slavery and emancipated all slaves in 1843, with the adoption of the new state constitution. Pictures: 1. Moses Brown 2. Extraordinary warriors X: the Eagle of the Eastern front ➡️ Picture of Oberst (Colonel) Hans-Ulrich Rudel, the most decorated German serviceman of WW2 as sole recipient of the Knight’s Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds. Aboard the Ju 87 “Stuka”, Rudel destroyed 519 enemy tanks, 150 artillery guns and even a battleship and a cruiser sunk, along with 70 landing craft and 800 other vehicles. In addition, he achieved 51 aerial victories in other aircraft. He flew 2,530 ground-attack missions, was wounded five times and got his leg amputated in February 1945. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Third child of a Lutheran minister, Rudel joined the Hitlerjugen in 1933 and the Luftwaffe in 1936, where he began his military career as an air reconnaissance pilot, although his legend as Stuka pilot began after the German attack on the Soviet Union in June 1941. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On 8 May 1945 (VE Day), Rudel fled west from an airfield near Prague, landing in US controlled territory, where he surrendered. Later, he emigrated to Argentina, from where he helped Nazi fugitives to escape from Europe, and sheltered Josef Mengele, the former SS doctor at Auschwitz. In this regard, Rudel never tried to clean his image, declaring himself a devout National Socialist to the end of his days. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to testimonies from his Tyrol neighbors, Rudel, fearing to fall into Soviet hands after surrender, said that he told the Americans he would offer Stalin his help in developing the best aviation ground attack force of the world if they turn him over. However, his captors were pragmatic and employed his knowledge for future aircraft designs. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Certainly, Rudel was a controversial character and a convinced Nazi, but his value as a soldier is out of any doubt. Many of you know Eddie, he is now one of the owners of Bongiorno Bagels. Before teaming up with his daughter and son-in-law to open a bagel shop in Gilbert, he was a Lieutenant in the FDNY.
