This cold snap and seemingly early onset of fall in the high country has got me thinking about desert vistas and sand in my beer. I have grown to love granite, but sandstone has a special place in my heart. I always say the wingate in the Creek is a climbing vacation; the cracks are perfect, extremely straight forward, and if you are a mortal like me, there is very little “bullshit” or “what the hell is this” or “I seriously have to do that right now” on the routes you’ll climb. Its been an in-and-out-of-the-clouds type of day here in coastal Maine. It reminds us of the shaded grays, blacks and whites found in the ethereal charcoal drawings of Emily Nelligan. The late artist was captivated by Maine and its coast, especially Cranberry Island. По дороге пробили колесо) но быстро сменив помчали дальше. 6 часов пути и 330км позади, было решено переночевать на Кислом ключе, а утром уже поехать в парк на стоянку к водопаду Дивный. Утро. Кордон Милоградовский, берем пропуск и тут начался участок плохой дороги. Сразу скажу что В эти места лучше ехать на проходимом авто!☝️ Мы чуть не засадили 80ку, нырнув смело в лужу , думая что мы на танке😁 На стоянках были люди, заняв поляну мы пошли купаться) вода была божественна! “ In climbing it’s really easy to only understand a portion of who a person really is. To only see them in the context in which your lives collide, and not really understand them to their fullest. Who a person is at their core. Why they feel so passionately about some things, and are silent about others. I want to be transparent, in the hopes that you’ll take the time to read this and get to know me a little better. Climbing is my passion. Climbing hard is my passion. But like most others, my life is a pie chart, full of really important pieces of who I am. Climbing is a piece of this, but when I am not climbing I’m working with youth on the West side of Cincinnati. I run an education program helping people get their GED, and I’m a case manager who helps those youth get their education and a job, and become financially stable and self sufficient. I’m a coach, a mentor, a teacher, a friend. But I am also a woman of color, and a mother to a white-passing little four year old boy who I am trying to teach to be a good person and fight for injustice. A few weeks ago we went to a protest. I told my son, “baby, you know how mommas skin is darker than yours? And your best friend’s skin is darker than yours ? And our next door neighbor, Ronnie? You know how much you love them? Well baby, there are a lot of people who don’t. And it’s it’s up you bud. Scream it from the rooftops, in the streets, across the entire country. Spread your love until your voice is gone. Stand up for what is right. DO what Jesus would have done. Fight the good fight, baby. Because everyone is big enough to do something.” When I take off my climbing shoes this is who I am. Where can I see waterfalls? - Its a common question at Zion, but for most of the year, the answer is: There really arent many. You may have seen photos of beautiful, large waterfalls in Zion Canyon. These torrents certainly make for incredible scenery in this dramatic sandstone environment. However, for sightseers and photographers that are witnesses, they usually have some pretty fortunate timing. After all, Zion is a dry, desert environment. Large waterfalls tend to occur either: 1) for a few weeks in spring during annual snowmelt, or 2) after rain as ephemeral or temporary waterfalls, usually only lasting a few hours. For the rest of the year, the only consistent falling water sources in Zion Canyon involve a trickle at Lower Emerald Pools, a small vertical stream in The Narrows named Mystery Falls, and a few small seeps and river cascades. If you are lucky enough to visit while there are waterfalls, The Temple of Sinawava and Emerald Pools trail system are some of the best places to watch. My few days in the Lessini mountains were full of surprises. This was the last cave I visited on my little tour, a lovely round 10m shaft leading down to stalagmites and a potential drafting way on. This cave is rather special though and I think I’ve never before visited one in such a unique place. The entrance is in the corner of the living room of my friend’s house. Yes, they knew it was there before and yes it might have been a small reason for moving in here. I see me top roping again in the near future💭💭💭💭 I’m hoping I can push through the fear I had the last time I ever did any climbing with rope. This is how I got started I was the top rope Queen 👑 and I loved it and then didn’t love it when shit started to happen out at the crag 🙄 Now I’m a stronger climber, I’ve grown a lot as a climber, I’ve been bouldering for the last year and half and entered competitions for fun and to push myself even further. This is Ernest. He’s a four-time World Champion in the Footprint-Following Games, which are held yearly in the Czech Republic. Basically it is exactly what you’d expect. The contestants line up and see who can follow the most footprints. There are shoes, bare feet, and also various animals. The winning prize is that you are allowed to leave with your life. So that means that Ernest practices constantly year-round, because if he doesn’t win his FIFTH world championship, it will be his last. Ernest is always enlisting me to help set up challenging footprints for him to practice with. And to be honest, it’s kind of a drag. He’s not that fun to be around because all he cares about is footprints. I mean he’s a nice guy in those rare moments that he takes a break from the footprints and asks about my day. But if he doesn’t win next year…I will be kind of relieved.
