🌿 In the cast vs scrunched out 🌿 . How is that even the same head of hair? 🤭 . A while back now @forestandshoreltd were kind enough to gift me their oil to try 😍 Ive been trying it out for a while and I love using a couple drops to scrunch out the cast that a gel leaves. It leaves me with really gorgeous waves and does a great job at sealing in the moisture so I get more days out of my washday 😍🙌🏻 . I also use it to scalp massage the night before washday (when I remember 😂) and I find that the lavender scent really helps relax me before bed 🧘🏻♀️ . I was pleasantly surprised how big the bottle was too at 100ml so I love that its going to last me a while ❤️ . Im back in work now so havent been as active on IG as life has been super hectic, I will catch up whenever I get chance, but it will more than likely be on the weekend 😅🤭 . - My hair a year ago(left) vs my hair now (right). I straightened my hair daily for 2 years. I didn’t think my natural curl looked good. My hair was dull and stopped growing. I stopped straightening my hair in May. I started the curly girl method and saw my hair come alive. It grew 6 inches already.

C A S T // Op de foto’s zie je 2 verschillende casts met daarbij 2 verschillende resultaten zodra de cast eruit gescruncht is. Wat is het verschil? De techniek! Op de bovenste foto’s is na het wassen, op handdoek droog haar, de leave-in en gel aangebracht. Dit erin gescruncht en daarna gedroogd met de dyson diffuser op de laagste blaasstand en de hoogste warmtestand. Nadat het haar 100% droog was de cast eruit gescruncht. Je ziet vooral een type 2a/b krul, meer een s-vormige krul. Op de onderste foto’s zie je een hele andere cast. Een cast met meer krul dan s-vormige krul. Hierbij is de leave-in en gel aangebracht op kletsnat haar, erin gescruncht en daarna gescruncht met een microvezel doek waardoor de ergste nattigheid en overtollig product eruit wordt geknepen. Gedroogd met de dyson diffuser op dezelfde stand als hierboven. Als het haar zo goed al droog is, is het nogmaals nat gemaakt met een mistspray waarna er nog wat extra gel is gebruikt. Weer gedroogd met de dyson diffuser, maar nu op de zachtste stand en de minst warme stand (beide op 1 brandend lampje) Wanneer het haar 100% droog is de cast eruit gescruncht. Je ziet dat de krul meer neigt naar een 2c/3a krul. Mocht je je afvragen of jouw krul meer is dan een 2a/b (wavy) krul, probeer dan eens de tweede techniek! Zorg er bij beide technieken voor dat je cast een echt krokante cast is. Is dit niet gelukt? Maak het haar opnieuw nat en voeg wat extra gel toe. Droog je je haar met een diffuser en krijg je altijd lastig een harde cast? Diffuse je haar dan eens op de laagste blaas en warmte stand. Teveel hitte zorgt ervoor dat je cast niet goed hard wordt. What helps me to create Clumps? ⤵️ 💡Step 1: Clarify your hair to remove product buildup 💡Step 2: Curl training while Deep Condition your hair, rinse out 💡Step 3: Make sure your hair is soaking wet 💡Step 4: apply leave in with praying hands 💡Step 5: brush my hair upside down 💡Step 6: using continuous spray bottle to wet my hair again 💡Step 7: scrunch gently from the bottom to the top and squeeze a little bit. 💡Step 8: repeat this to scrunch side to side 💡Step 9: apply gel/custard or mousse gently squeezing around each clump and scrunch 💡Step 10: repeat this to scrunch side to side 💡Step 11: remove excess water with a microfiber towel 💡Step 12: diffuse upside down and side to side. I hope this is helpful. Don’t forget each hair is like a fingerprint, and as such will react differently to different products and techniques. This is Erin. For over a year and a half, we have been working on transitioning from some heat damaged hair. The photo on the left was taken in April 2019. The photo on the right was taken this week. This is the first time that I did not find any straight pieces of hair, despite the amount of length taken off in the first cut. Mechanically damaged and chemically damaged hair must be nurtured. It’s so important to see your stylist regularly to help you devise a plan to get your hair back to being healthy unless you plan on shaving it all off 🤣 Stand alone @olaplex treatments are very helpful, getting a few inches cut at a time and learning how to manipulate your hair without heat to help it match the rest....these are just some of the ways to have a smooth transition. I’m so glad I take before and after photos. It’s so nice to see the progress even more than a year later. It also brings me joy and that’s what I’m holding onto especially with the climate of the world right now. It can be hard and discouraging scrolling through Instagrams curly hair community, and seeing what seem to be perfect hair everywhere. I know in the beginning of my journey I wanted my hair to look a certain way all the time, and would be discouraged when it didn’t look just how I wanted. Curls fall, frizz kicks in, hair gets tangled, lighting changes and lets not even get started on what the weather can do. Instagram pictures are just a second in time - usually right after a fluff 😉 So be gentle, take lots of pictures and only compare yourself to yourself. Comparison is the thief of joy and nurturing your hair should be joyous. I love my hair, frizz and all 💗 How long have you been on your curly hair journey? 🌾No protein vs protein🌾 . I did an in depth post about how wet frizz can mean your hair needs protein (keep in mind there are other causes of wet frizz) and I wanted to make a post showing another telltale sign Ive experienced that means I need protein is when my hair doesnt hold its definition for very long 😩 . The top 2 photos were back in February when I wasnt using near enough protein for my hair type, and I was so confused why Id lose definition almost immediately after scrunching it out. It was @ingecurls that told me that it could mean my hair needs protein, especially if my styling products are strong hold and Im still losing definition 💪🏻 . Since incorporating protein into my routine I get much more days out of my washday and usually go without refreshing 😍 . Of course its still normal to lose some definition as the days go on and as hair is lived in but for me, using protein means it holds a lot better than it did previously 🤭 . . Remember signs you need protein:loss of definition, wet frizz, hair feels mushy and almost as though its damp 💕 . And signs you dont need protein is it feels dry and almost like straw 😅 . . . 🦁Brushed out vs Defined🐩 . And also yay! My hair played nice on my birthday 😂 I think thats all a curly girl wants in life 😂👌🏻 . Isnt it crazy how different our hair can look just from brushing it?! 😱 I feel like even the colour looks different if I dont wear it wavy 😱🧡 . Today I didnt use much protein, only in my conditioner and one of my gels and I think that gave me really nice balanced hair 😍 . Then my husband took me shopping for my birthday and I got 2 pairs of jeans because almost none of mine fit 😂 and a really cute top 😍😍 . And on Saturday we went out for dinner and a drink 🥰 so all in all Ive had a great birthday 🥳 and Im now 25! Halfway to 50 😂😂 thanks to everyone whos wished me a happy birthday, I really appreciate it 🥰 AND we hit 9k!! 😱 I cannot believe were not far off 10k! Have you ever been in, say, moisture overload, slapped on a protein treatment, and found yourself in protein overload following the treatment? 🤦♀️ . I certainly have!! Its super frustrating! . This over balance can be caused by using the wrong treatment for you, or leaving a treatment or deep conditioner on for too long. BUT it can also be caused by your hair not quite being overloaded enough to need a treatment in the first place. . Yeah, thats a thing too! 😤 . In my last balancing your wash day post, I touched on how I figured out whether my hair needed a treatment/DC, or whether I could just balance what was going on with products. . Following that post, I had lots of questions asking for more information on how I fathom this out. So, here is a round up of what I look for to warrant a treatment, and what I look for to settle on just adjusting my products. . This will obviously be slightly different for everyone, and can be tricky to navigate, but it is worth getting your head around how this works for YOUR hair. The many (many, many, many) stages of drying 😂 . The drying process really is where everything can go completely wrong on a wash day. . Theres been numerous times Ive had banging wet clumps, which exploded into some kind of bush on my head as they dried 🤦♀️ . Whilst there are several causes of this (from too heavy products to needing to clarify), it can also 100% be down to how you dry your hair, and what you choose to do between applying styling products and finally scrunching that crunch. . Heres a breakdown of some common techniques you can use whilst drying your hair, to help maintain definition and create a wee bit of volume. . I cant find the words to express how badly this has affected my life and of others alike. . Have people made a weird face at you when you told them post cgm that you never knew you had curly hair?? . THE DISBELIEF!! . 😂😂 Storytime! 🤭🤭 . I want to start off by saying that this post is in no way bashing hair stylists, I admire what you do and its actually something Id love to do 🤭😍 . I had been in Spain about a year or more and went to the hairdressers I always went to. The usual woman that cut my hair wasnt there but another woman cut my hair who had been working there since before I started going so I know she was experienced 😅 what happened or what went wrong? Im not entirely sure, maybe something got lost in translation or maybe she was just having a bad day.. We are human and we all have bad days and make mistakes no matter what profession were in or how long weve been doing it for 🤷🏻♀️ . I didnt have the courage to go back and ask for it to be fixed 😅 and I also felt scared to find a new hairdressers or go back and risk wasting more money and coming away unhappy. . I eventually decided to try cutting my hair myself last year, right around the time I started taking care of my waves 🤭 My mindset was: Ive got nothing to lose, if it turns out bad Ill get it fixed and if it turns out great then Ill be saving so much time and money doing it myself 😂 . Over the past year and a half I have tried modified versions of the unicorn cut and Ive tried the pigtail cut and I think Ive had similar results with each one Ive tried 🥰 . Im hoping to go to a curly hair salon near me soon... Well see, but now Im nervous theyll see all the mistakes Ive made in my hair 😂😂😂 . . When you book a CURLY CUT: it does NOT mean a chop unless you want or absolutely need it. A full curly cut service is for anybody who has not been for to me before. It is for anybody who has never had a curly haircut before or feels like they still need help figuring out their hair, products or styling methods. A full curly cut is also if I haven’t seen you in 8 months to a year (this is common in curly hair.) And the book is going well. It’s getting tighter and stronger. In my mind, anyway. Because no one has read it yet! It is a funny thing to write a memoir after all these novels. A novel, I can tell you quite clearly when it’s a book. I know when it’s done. A memoir, it’s trickier for me to know at the very least because it’s new and different. What Helped Me The Most In This Journey⤵️ 1️⃣Knowing the three important factors to choose the right products for your hair. Find out your texture, density and hair porosity. I have a post about how you can determine these 3 factors in my highlights “how to choose products”. Go check it out. 2️⃣Paying attention to ingredients. Understanding how to read ingredient lists has transformed my curly hair journey. Knowing your hair is part of reading labels. This will save you so many trial and error fails because you can understand what you’re putting in your hair and how your hair responds to it. In my highlights by “ingredientlist” you see what to look for or to avoid. Check it out. 3️⃣Experimenting a lot. I follow the rule what will work for my hair doesn’t mean it will work for your hair. For example I have high porosity, medium density and fine hair. My hair likes coconut oil as a ingredient. It also occurs that another curly has the exact same properties of the hair but the hair doesn’t like not against coconot oil as an ingredient at all. So all I can say is pay attention to how your hair reacts with certain ingredients. Don’t follow the one rule you know your hair as the best. What helped you the most in this journey so far? Styling progression with mousse only! This is a take on the wash now, style later technique from @curlyfitmom. Read on for more details! ⤵️ . . 1️⃣Washed my hair on Saturday morning. Leave in only and let it air dry in a bun. . . 2️⃣On Monday afternoon, I used a spray bottle to wet my hair somewhere between damp and very wet. Brushed through with my @curlkeeper flexy brush. A must have! . . 3️⃣Brushed hair upside down and then glazed over @johnfriedaus curl reviver mousse and scrunched it in a la #flipcoatscrunch from @atoya_thecurlyhairstudio. This technique is so simple and easy! Like frosting a cake. . . 4️⃣Tipped head side to side and shook it out. Then applied @cakebeauty curl whip mousse. T-shirt plopped while I got dressed. . . 5️⃣Diffused til almost dry. Scrunched in a little more John frieda mousse and diffused some more. Used my beloved @mahoganynaturalsltd monoi healing serum to scrunch and fluff out the soft cast. . . ⭐Thats it! Super easy and all mousse! Light, fluffy, and easy. The benefit of all mousse is voluminous hair thats touchable. . . 👉TIP: use more mousse than you think you should. The benefit of mousse over gel is that its not as easy to go overboard! . . Falta de agua en su STC, falta de agua en su definición... Y aquí podemos ver la importancia del agua en el cabello, que hasta parece que el color cambia... 🅲🅾🅽🅵🅴🆂🆂🅸🅾🅽 🆃🅸🅼🅴 I use a dyson dryer at the salon, because it is ✨faster, quieter and makes curls less frizzy✨ However, I ORIGINALLY got the dryer for myself at home, because my old dryer started to smell like 🔥 burning....thats never a good sign! After I got it I felt so guilty 😬 about only using it at home, I now bring it back and forth between home and work. I wanted to be able to share the drying magic with ALL you amazing curlies 🤗! It is also a LOT quieter 🤫 which is helpful when trying to have a conversation while drying....which does take some time even with the dyson! I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this, but it’s a *touch* steamy outside these days, which means humidity is in full force. This is a great time to wear your hair curly/wavy/air dried, and to NOT fight the frizz. Let your hair be! Your pro tip of the day is about releasing the “curl cast” after applying product and drying your curly do. STEP 1: apply your product evenly to your hair. Do this is 4 sections so you get the product allllll over STEP 2 : Air dry or diffuse the hair, keeping the hands OUT! (This promotes le frizz) STEP 3: Turn your head upside down, and gently shake out the curls, releasing that product cast and creating volume and a soft curl vs the deep fried extra crispy curl. FORMULA FRIDAY ✨ SWIPE ➡️➡️ FOR BEFORE -Teasey highlight/baby light with 20vol blondme lightener, roots and mids, leaving out previously lightened green ends! In-between foils I covered up that green with @schwarzkopfcan vibrance 1/3 6-78, 2/3 5-1, 1:1 13vol lotion After 20 minutes I applied 7vol blondme lightener with 10:1 rose additive on leftout ends in the foils, processed another 10 minutes. (Fun fact, the rose additive is great for cancelling out blues and greens!)
