Senate Bill 393 would restrict shackling of incarcerated women during childbirth and labor, ensuring access to maternal supplies and postpartum healthcare. We introduced this legislation after learning that multiple incarcerated women in Milwaukee had given birth while shackled inhumanely. Before we continue, we would like to give a content warning around issues of domestic violence involving one of the black earth farms organizers, jibril kyser, enacting harm against his former partner. This statement is being shared with the consent of the survivor. [Page 3] Since June 25th 2020, black earth farms has been undergoing a process of accountability for 1) instances of abuse from jibril against his former partner, 2) secrecy from some members with knowledge of the abuse 3) continuing dynamics of patriarchy and toxic masculinity within the group. In the past few weeks we have engaged in talking circles with an external facilitator centering this specific instance of violence and the secrecy around it. We are still in process to determine accountability for the harm, secrecy around the harm and broader cycles of patriarchal dynamics in the collective. [Page 4] We were advised by our facilitator to wait to release a detailed statement until the initial process is completed. We are not there yet but we are sharing a brief update now to not further delay transparency. The entire collective was informed of the abuse by early July 2020. After this we did not organize a response in a timely manner. We recognize that this may have caused further harm or confusion, and sincerely regret and apologize for this lack of timeliness and organization. There are many grievances that we are working through and understand the delayed notice is frustrating and affects trust in the organization. [Page 5] We also understand there is some misinformation and speculation going around about the partner abuse. The survivor has expressed a desire to keep details private. I wanna talk about emotional health for a minute as it affects your physical health. Emotional distress leaves people susceptible to physical illness. Studies have shown that ailments like cardiovascular disease, immune system dysfunction, as well as many other chronic illnesses can be linked to emotional distress. Being emotionally healthy doesn’t mean you’re happy all the time. It means you’re aware of your emotions. You can deal with them, positive or negative. Emotionally healthy people still feel stress, anger, and sadness, but they learn how to react to those emotions. They can tell when a problem is more than they can handle on their own. They also know when to seek help from a practitioner. Some can easily navigate this world of human emotion, and some people struggle with expressing their feelings. UP: After Hathras, another 22-Yr old Dalit woman brutalised in Balrampur According to local reports, a 22-year-old Dalit woman was gang-raped after being given an injection. After raping her, the unidentified accused broke her both legs before killing her. The woman was a college student and was returning home after taking admission for the new session. Balrampur Police said on Twitter that two accused have been arrested. It said the claim of both legs being broken is not true as it was not confirmed in the postmortem report. SP Balrampur Dev Ranjan Verma said a written complaint was filed at the Gainsdi Police Station in Balrampur District wherein the family members said their kin who worked at a private firm in the area, did not return home on time on Tuesday The family members tried to take the girl to the hospital but she succumbed on her way. They have named two boys in the written complaint and have alleged rape. The police acted immediately on the complaint and have arrested both the culprits, said Verma. The mother added that her daughter had been in immense pain and all she could say was - There is a lot of pain, I will not survive.” Former Minister Juhi Singh slammed the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led government on the incident. “After Hathras now its Balrampur, legs of the victim were broken, she finally lost her life battle also. It was 1975 the first time that I was introduced to this procedure as a young nurse. The sweet, beautiful girl was only a couple of years younger than me and I was horrified! As I was prepping her for surgery she recited to me the reasons that it was being done. She said that it would stop the growth of unwanted hair on her face and body, her skin would become lighter and she would be more appealing to a future husband. What? This poor girl did not have any idea what was being done to her. Now, I am even more shocked and, yes, angry that a procedure like this is still happening to girls! How? So what’s the Primal Movers Podcast about? ➡️Experiences of being human ➡️Facing deeper questions ➡️Learning ➡️Exploring ➡️Connecting My intent is simply to carry on with the Facing Human project that my writing and sharing here reflects. Except the podcast will allow me to connect with people who have stories to tell. Podcasting has been a great tool for me over the years to learn about real-life. To listen closely and make up my own mind. The podcast medium allows us to zone in (and out) on topics and characters that bring us stimulation - both through tension and intrigue, but also experiencing what I’d call a way more ‘authentic’ expression of human nature. I worry that they have been so brainwashed by magazines and editing apps to believe that all womxn need to look a certain way and that cellulite, even skin, stretch marks, fat and hip dips are not normal. I worry that they have been influenced by older generations to have such hatred and warped views in relation to womxn. I worry that they have never been educated on how to talk, interact and respect womxn. I worry for there future partners. I worry that they will treat them unkindly and in a disgusting manner. I worry for the people around them. That they will listen to the way they speak about womxn’s bodies and therefore be influenced to believe that this is normal and acceptable. I worry for there future children, the next generation whom I hope doesn’t struggle the way I did with body image. I worry for every womxn, young or old who reads these comments and feels utter disgust, worry, fear and shame. I know it feels like there minds can’t be changed but we will try. I worry because the majority of the comments left on my photos are from school aged children. A generation whom is so easily influenced and manipulated. I worry because they must have such low self esteem and therefore believe others need to be like them. They view confidence and self love as a treat and are intimidated by it. This is not okay. It’s not okay for children and adults to be disrespecting womxn. It’s not okay for men to talk about womxn’s bodies in an unkind and disgusting manner. WhatsApp has been working on multi-device support for quite some time. This feature allows using one WhatsApp account on multiple devices. It looks like we’ll soon get to experience this feature as WhatsApp is said to be in the final stage of testing multi-device support. We’ve already gotten a glimpse of parts of WhatsApps multi-device support through screenshots shared by WABetaInfo. It is now reported that WhatsApp is preparing to enable this feature for its public beta testers. So users who are on WhatsApp’s public beta programme will be able to test it soon. There’s no word on when WhatsApp will roll this out for all users but with public beta availability it shouldnt be long. WABetaInfo also shared some more details on what this feature is all about. This feature allows users to use the same WhatsApp account on four different devices at the same time. It also doesn’t require your main device to have an active internet connection like it does with WhatsApp Web. So even if your primary phone is off you’ll still be able to use your WhatsApp account on the web or other devices. WhatsApp will also roll out a new UI for its desktop version for this multi-device support feature. On the app, this feature will be available under ‘Linked Devices’. Here, you can link your WhatsApp account to a new device, and you’ll also see the list of linked devices.
