Scarves are a great accessory to have as the weather gets cooler. Not only are they a stylish addition to any mans outfit, but they also provide warmth in cold temperatures. Here is a more detailed history of the scarve. While many credit its history to use by the Terracotta soldiers in China, the scarf dates all the way back to ancient Rome where it was originally called a Sudarium, literally translated to mean “sweat cloth”. It was used in Rome for cleanliness, and the cloth scarf was often worn tied to the waist of the man, or loosely wrapped around the neck on warmer days. In the event of a formal affair, the scarf was almost always worn, and various grades of cloth could easily separate the affluent and wealthy members of society from the rest. The scarf was now seen on a daily basis as men would continually wear them out, both for cleanliness, but now, due to the separation of class, as a way to showcase their status or elitism in society. By the third century BC, the appeal and popularity of the Roman introduced scarf had made its way to China and was now being worn by the Terracotta soldiers of the Qin Shi Huang dynasty as a form of military garb in used as a way to discern the soldiers rank, based on the style or fashion of the scarf. By the end of the nineteenth century, scarves had gone from a regular accessory worn by men and women to one of the most essential forms of neckwear worn on a daily basis by men of all classes. I have several friends that live in the Santa Cruz Mountains area. I have spent many pleasant times there. Many of those friends are musicians, so I decided to approach the design like I would a rock concert poster. I like many of the the 60s psychedelic poster artists, have been influenced by both the French Art Nouveau and Viennese Secessionist art movements. Both of these movements featured floral and natural images, as well as interesting lettering and occasional Asian art motifs. These designs were often symmetrical and very colorful. In the afternoon. Tomorrow it will be exactly three months since I posted the first chapter of this comics. Its almost over. Im drawing an epilogue which Ill post next week. This was based on a real story as all of these things have happened to me, metaphorically (or not). Im NOT gonna print a volume out of this as this doesnt even have a title, some characters dont even have names and I feel like it would be too self-referential to give my own name to the main character - also this is not about me, its about romanticizing the past and having nostalgia for days that were quite shitty but that now feel like that was as good as life gets. The #Cretan Bull was a bull that appeared in the #myth of the Labours of #Heracles, as well as the myth of the #Minotaur, in #Greekmythology. It was the creature that #Pasiphae fell in love with, and became impregnated by, eventually giving birth to the Minotaur. During the Labours of Heracles, King #Eurystheus sent Heracles to capture the Cretan Bull and bring it back. The #hero went to Crete and acquired permission by King #Minos, who was happy to get rid of the animal that had destroyed the crops of the region. Heracles managed to capture the animal with his bare hands, and sent it back to Eurystheus. The king was so afraid of the animal that he hid inside a large jar upon seeing it. He later said to sacrifice it to Hera, but the goddess refused, thinking it would give further glory to Heracles. Instead, Eurystheus let it loose, which reached Marathon and acquired the name Marathonian Bull. Later, Theseus, son of the king of #Athens #Aegeus, set forth to capture the bull. He went to #Marathon and indeed successfully caught it. Hey, my name is Nicky & I find writing captions haaaard so go easy. But I thought it’s time to share a bit about me 🖤 I’m married to the best bloke ever & we’ve got 2 smalls. We live in West Sussex, about 20m from Brighton. The River Adur is on our doorstep & in 15m we can be at the beach or the beautiful South Downs. 🐶 We have a dog called Buzz. He’s a wired Daschund x Griffen Bassett Vendeen. He’s forever stealing the kids toys & has no idea he’s a dog. ☕️ i love caffeine…perhaps too much. I’ve heard good things about adaptogens & tried Lions Mane & Reishe (mushroom) coffee but it tasted like cheap instant to me….it was not cheap. I’m 90% Vegan - milk choc - & still pretty shocked I was able to give up butter. 🎭 I used to be an Actor & trained at @lamdadrama I worked at the National Theatre & TV incl Waking the Dead, New Tricks, Doctors & you’ll also find me in a James blunt music video. I had a stage name which was totally different & very confusing for the postie. 🤳🏻I’m a firm believer in the importance of being in photos with your children. I find it hard sometimes & feel a bit awkward, hate my hair, wish I’d done my make up etc, but I know they’re thank me for it when they’re older. I genuinely wished I’d had a professional take pics of me & my babies. 🤞2020 has been definitely tested us but we’re coming out stronger than ever & have made a lot of changes. It’s not about being a pin board for the rest of existence.⠀ ⠀ You must know your inherent personal power to surrender, and that comes with trust. Trust in yourself - even if you don’t feel like it, but also trust in what stands behind you and what it means to have purpose in the world.⠀ ⠀ Healing, I think, is bound to purpose. It’s a gift. In many ways to heal is to play god. You are changing the fabric of reality and moving the chess pieces of life in another direction. This isn’t for shits and giggles - it comes with a debt in the sense that your role in life changes. Like a flower that is lucky enough to bloom pays its pollen to the bee. ⠀ ⠀ So surrender and purpose then become linked. It’s the anchoring to your purpose that enables roots firm enough to not be afraid of the winds of the world. In that way - a little bit of outside movement won’t harm you, but will actually help to empower you - and the cycle continues.⠀ ⠀ So... in a nutshell. Find your strength in purpose. Despite being a fan of Studio Ghibli movies I havent seen them all 😬. I watched Kikis Delivery Service for the first time just until recently and I loved it. Kikis character in the movie is super relatable, especially if youre a freelancer and/or artist. ⠀ I love how the movie explores deep topics like the transition into adulthood, art block, depression, working hard and facing ungratefulness, and the stress of the city vs the countryside, all with light pacing. It certainly is a movie for all ages. The only thing I hated was the obnoxious insistence of the love interest, Tombo, but it is a Japanese movie from 1989, so I forgive that part. The scene I redraw is one where Kiki comments on the tradition of witches only wearing black clothes and having black cats as companions, on contrast, and as a desire for modernity, she adorns her hair with a big red bow. Elijah McClain was described as a quirky young man, a pacifist and a vegetarian. He would play violin for shelter kittens on his lunch break to ease their anxiety and the world is a shittier place now that he is gone. Some nights ago I dreamt that the guy I like lost his watch in the disgusting waters of a dirty public swimming pool. He asked someone to ask me to get inside and get it for him. I didntt want, but I did it. I got out of the oily water and searched for him with the watch in my hands. But he had gone, tho he knew I had swum inside sunscreen, foams of unknown origin and wet kleenexes for him. So remember, kids.
