One thing I love about living in Plymouth is that I’m always discovering new places and new things that are right on my doorstep and I never even knew existed. For example, today I went to a pub called The White Thorn Inn which was hosting my friend @juniour_mcilhiney fundraiser for an epic charity challenge he’s involved in with three other Royal Marines called @rm_cockleshell_atlantic As I walked into the beer garden there was A GOAT sleeping on a table! A local band was rocking out in the sunshine, the scenery was amazing and as part of the day I got to shave off Juniors beard to help raise money towards the event, it was an epic day in an epic location and I’ll definitely be going back with the family again. Just as a side note I wanna say a massive well done to Junior. I know it took him 6 years to get that pony tail and beard combo on point and I know his beard meant a lot to him. I’ve shared hotels with him and seen him shampoo it, condition it, hair dryer it, infuse it with coconut oil and sometime even sing it a lullaby to help it get off to sleep (I made that part up) but I know it wasn’t easy for him to do but it was for Charity so he stepped up. All the lads on this challenge are in for an epic ride and I wish them all the best of luck. TOOLSDAY N°07 Wer kennt es nicht, kaum will man mit der Arbeit loslegen, stellt man fest, dass wieder mal alles stumpf ist. Damit mir das nicht mehr passiert, habe ich mir den Nasschleifer T4 von @tormek_sharpening gekauft und gleich noch um das Drechslerset ergänzt. Dank dem Drechselset sind meine Drechseleisen jetzt immer super schnell nachgeschärft und ich kann ganz schnell wieder weiter drechseln 🤘 Aber auch meine Stemmeisen sind mit dem Nassschleifer sofort wieder startklar und rasiermesserscharf. Für die Drechseleisen legt Tormek auch gleich noch Aufkleber bei, auf denen man die genauen Einstellungen am Schleifstein und am dazugehörigen Tool auf der Schiene notieren kann. So kann man nichts vergessen (so wie ich das sonst immer tue 😂). Alles in allem bin ich super zufrieden mit der Maschine, dank ihr macht das Drechseln oder das Stemmen gleich doppelt so viel Spaß, weil man einfach immer scharfes Werkzeug in der Werkstatt hat. Und jetzt zu euch: Wie und mit was schäft ihr eure Werkzeuge? Seid ihr vllt sogar noch von der alten Schule und schäft per Hand? Day 197: “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.” My mom had this embroidered and framed in our house. Growing up I read it at least once a day but it meant nothing to me other than decoration. I learned on Facebook that a friend died yesterday morning. She was in the prime of her life and I’m grateful that the friend who posted the announcement picked up when I called right after reading it. Lisa Hoff intimidated me as her reputation preceded her in such a big way. She was and is a bit of a legend in certain circles. But a fully human legend as my friend, Karen reminded me. I had several meaningful conversations with Lisa with the intention of getting to know each other better. Before life took us in different geographic directions we made friendship Facebook official. But even though I didn’t know her well, her absence leaves a big hole for many, but bigger still, the impact she made on so many here and abroad. She spent her time well on Earth and lived a life bigger than for herself! Her passing was a signpost to me yesterday to not become myopic. To not get encumbered with what is today and lose sight of tomorrow (because honestly I was in the deep blues this weekend). There is important work still to be done. I plucked these tiger figs before my tree, Rocky, recently had to survive the stress of days of smoky air and I watched from inside as he languished. This was before he dropped all his leaves from stress. I stashed the figs in the fridge, they were too precious to eat. Waiting for just the right time, then wondering if they were too far gone. And then yesterday morning, I sliced them open—still jammy inside even if the outsides would never again be photo ready. Last night, I looked and my fig tree, Rocky, stripped of leaves and fruit is starting to send up tiny tendrils of new growth. - @anneliesz on Instagram

I grew up in a time and place where kids’ art supplies that were labeled “skin tone” were pinkish-tan. If you have spent your life thinking that bandaids are skin-toned, then you, like me, are privileged, and have benefitted your whole entire life from a skewed system of oppression and injustice. Maybe you are not actively oppressing individual people directly, but we are all caught in a giant system. Nevin scouted for high country mule deer most of the summer, with a goal to take a mature buck with a bow. He accomplished his dream yesterday. Das Flugwild im richtigen Moment aufs Korn nehmen, dabei die Umgebung zu berücksichtigen und dann noch einen sauberen Schuss abzugeben ist unserer Meinung nach definitiv eine der Königsdisziplinen im Bereich Jagd. E hoje o post é pra falar sobre minha prótese, sobre os componentes e o papel de cada um no conjunto que eu utilizo. Vamos começar pelo meu joelho que é o RHEO KNEE XC da @ossur ele é biônico, controlado por microprocessador, sendo assim um equipamento muito seguro e dinâmico ao mesmo tempo, me acompanhando desde uma simples caminhada até mesmo esportes recreativos como corridas leves, trilhas e até mesmo a ciclismo já que ele conta com um modo livre que entra em ação automaticamente assim que começo a pedalar. Ele também possui resistência a água e a situações climáticas extremas, ou seja, tanto frio quanto calor não são problemas. Em relação ao pé, estou utilizando o PRO-FLEX XC da Össur, pé com alto retorno de energia devido seu design ser inspirado nas lâminas de corrida, me permite ter estabilidade e segurança em qualquer tipo de terreno já que tem também as lâminas bi partidas facilitando a marcha em terrenos irregulares. Junto com o pé está acoplado o Unity, que é o sistema de vácuo ativo da Össur, a cada passo que dou, ele aciona a bomba de sucção que fica no pé puxando o ar do encaixe pela mangueira que fica acoplada na válvula e no encaixe, ou seja, permite que eu fique mais conectado com a prótese, evitando que ar permaneça dentro do encaixe. Utilizo também o liner Seal-In X, além de muito confortável e prático de vestir é utilizado junto a um anel móvel que me permite ter estabilidade e ajustar durante o dia o anel mais pra cima ou pra baixo de forma conforme minha necessidade. Typically the pieces are inflected with fragments of crushed “fine china” that the artist inherited from her parents after they passed away. As Mayer worked with the crushed porcelain, it became flecks of dust that are then scattered, embedded, dispersed, and blown away. These material properties reflect the ways in which behavioral and psychological patterns are passed from one generation to the next. The fringe for Arm Gallery is embedded with clay that has been brought to the surface of the earth as a by-product of global warming. We don’t need to tell you just how hard working honeybees are either. But we would feel a sting of regret if we didn’t give you some of the numbers from the bees perspective. ⁣ 150,000 bees live and die between the middle of May to mid August to continue the life of the colony as a whole. ⁣ ⁣ A honeybee guard bee can sting other insects multiple times, but the stinger, because it is barbed gets stuck in humans’ skin and will result in the death of the bee. ⁣ ⁣ A hive at peak capacity can be anywhere from 80-90,000 bees and the queen lays up to 2,500 eggs a day or the equivalent of her body weight! ⁣ ⁣ A single cell in the hive is visited at least 1,000 a day by a worker or nurse bee.⁣ ⁣ Most hives die through disease and deformities caused by varroa mites. Which if it’s size were comparative to humans it would be a rock about the size of a dinner plate on your gut.⁣ ⁣ A single bee will only produce 1/12th a teaspoon on honey in her entire lifespan. ⁣ ⁣ 4 million flowers are made to make 22 lbs of honey or 125,000 flowers for one jar of our medium honey. (Which is $12 in our store!) ⁣ ⁣ A bee flaps its wings 11,400 beats per minute and the collective distance would be the same as circumnavigating the globe for a single pound of honey. Each hive will produce anywhere from 40-150lbs of surplus honey (which is for us!) so that’s a lot of world traveling! ⁣ ⁣ Put another way that’s equal to flying the distance of the earth to the moon every day to find food! ⁣ ⁣ Foragers will fly up to 6 miles from the hive to forage on a flower. But usually more like 2 miles. ⁣ ⁣ Honeybees more often than not die while out flying and foraging and are either too exhausted or damaged from flight to make it back home.⁣ ⁣ Honeybees must consume 17-20lbs of honey to produce a single pound of comb. ⁣ ⁣ Bees maintain temperature of their nest from 92-93 degrees despite outside temperatures that can range from 100 to -40. ⁣ ⁣ Honeybees pull nectar out of the combs and fan the nectar in order to get the water consistency to a perfect 18% ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ All of this is not possible without respect, honorable husbandry and honest to goodness hard work. Friends are everything. Nothing is possible on your own, everything we do is collaborative. I love what we can do. With the onset of COVID-19, beekeepers across the country found a shortage of queens available for their apiary function. Mini operators in Alberta depend on importation of queen stocks and have never practised self-sufficient management. An exciting time to be a beekeeper here in Alberta, is the present time. Beekeeping industries are changing around the world; food production, commodity prices, and the economy, are all things that are being reworked, are under threat, or need to become more self-sufficient. Alberta beekeepers are feeling the crunch of closed borders, difficulty in getting labour, and the expense of doing business. Queen production will decrease these issues and increase not only capacity of the operations but also the quality of stocks that are being developed locally. I think the best thing that can come out of all of this in the world of beekeeping is self-sufficiency.
