We have already discussed a multitude of diseases that may come as a result of smoking. But can these diseases be treated? And how? One of the biggest risks of being a smoker is developing cancer. It can come about almost anywhere in the body, and is treated differently based upon the type of cancer present and the stage of the disease. Most treatment plans include surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy, which take a massive toll on the body. The second highest risk for smokers is developing heart disease or having a stroke. There are many different types of heart disease, including a heart attack, heart failure, and arrhythmia. The treatment for heart disease focuses on lifestyle changes such as change in diet and quitting smoking. A stroke happens when blood supply to the brain is blocked. To treat a stroke, doctors need to restore blood flow to the brain, but a stroke can cause permanent paralysis, trouble speaking, memory loss, or death. - @no.to.tobacco on Instagram

🤕 SHOULDER IMPINGEMENT 🤕 Have you been having shoulder pain while throwing, swimming, exercising (bench press, shoulder press, lateral raises, upright rows), or even simply raising your arm up over your head? Then you might want to save this post... Shoulder Impingement is a very common diagnosis that can be seen in a wide variety of people - desk workers, baseball players, swimmers, bodybuilders, and the every day average person. When we feel “impingement” there can be many factors at play because our shoulder is a very complex joint, but most frequently there is some degree of irritation of the tendons in our shoulder due to rubbing against other structures. In a healthy shoulder there is also rubbing, but the combination of repetitive motions often times with a less than ideal movement pattern can turn normal rubbing into abnormal rubbing. In situations where a complex movement like throwing causes our shoulder pain, other factors like our upper back or even hip mobility may also be the culprit. The following exercises can be used as rehab exercises or a prehab warmup for people with or without shoulder impingement - as frequently those who end up with shoulder issues are missing a well-rounded warmup in their arm care. If you believe you or someone you know has shoulder impingement and are tired of feeling like your arm is falling off after your favorite activities please like, comment, DM, save, or share this video, but please remember that even if these exercises make you feel 10x better, they are often not all that must be done. If you are in the above category, seek out a good physical therapist to evaluate your shoulder and the true source of your symptoms. - @nilesnilesniles.dpt on Instagram

Know your gear, know its limitations. A lesson in humility. The unbreakable has finally broken 🤣 Ive never owned an aad in 12 yrs of skydiving. One reason is the canopy size VS speed limitations of AADs. I meant to turn the device off for the jump when I switched wings. I got distracted and forgot. I did a BIG turn (1170 for shits n giggles) with a good snap. On the roll out I heard a POP and felt my body slam forward into the harness like a giant air brake. I instantly knew what happened 🤦🏾♂️ Im 200ish feet of the deck with 2 canopies out. Control was impossible with the 66 Petra. I grabbed the reserve toggles and was able to manage heading. It was pretty reasonable. Landing was pretty damn soft buuuuut. . . Foot got caught in a soft dirt hole (kinda like a gopher hole) and snapped sideways. What a fucking idiot. Anyways. . . ❣️SPINAL FLOW FIX YOUR MOBILITY❣️ • I added four different spinal flows compressed into this video series! I think any of these are awesome for someone who is struggling with some tightness and wants to help improve their mobility! Two of these flow patterns are seated to help fight against the poor positioning from working at home. The work from home lifestyle is hurting your back! The other two videos are when you have a bit more time and can get onto the ground for a flow pattern with a yoga mat! Being flexible and bendy is great, but having control of your full range of motion should be the ultimate goal! Combo working from home with sitting in front of the TV.. running... squatting... sometimes it’s nice to switch things up and get some length flowing through that spine vs compression • Complete each exercise 8-10 times! If you can, squeeze it in after your workday as well to fight poor posture, shoulder pain and youll feel a big change🤤🤤! Gently push until you feel tension then back off and repeat! Tag any friends/family who may struggle with spinal mobility🥰🤗🔥 - @docjord on Instagram

Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is a condition that is not well understood by clinicians and the general public. In clinical practice, thoracic outlet syndrome is typically not a diagnosis that gets considered early on, being passed over for other conditions such as cervical radiculopathy, frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears, and many other pathologies, which can lead to it being mismanaged. TOS can be managed conservatively if the appropriate care is implemented. Shown are a few different stretches that may help with TOS symptoms. If you want to learn more about this condition, common assessments used, and additional movements that you can be helpful for management, check out link in bio for a video on the topic! 🔸Let’s talk about #hipflexors! 😃🙋🏽 🔸Piriformis and Psoas (aka Iliopsoas if we include Iliacus) specifically. These muscles are often the root cause of stiff, tight hips when restricted, and impingement may refer up and aggravate the lower back. 🔸The #piriformis extends from the front of the sacrum across the sciatic nerve to the top of the femur 🦴 It helps the thigh move side to side. Specifically, piriformis laterally rotates the femur with hip extension and abducts the femur with hip flexion. 🔸A tight piriformis leads to difficulty moving the hip region and can become a contributing factor to back pain. It can also lead to “piriformis syndrome” where it irritates the sciatic nerve. 🔸The #psoas joins the upper body and the lower body. As part of the iliopsoas, psoas major contributes to hip joint flexion. On the lumbar spine, unilateral contraction bends the trunk laterally, while bilateral contraction raises the trunk from a supine position to enable one to sit up. 🔸The psoas forms part of a group of muscles called hip flexors, whose action is to lift the upper leg towards the body when the body is fixed. 🔸A tight psoas can result in lack of mobility, and in chronic cases, spasms or low back pain by compressing lumbar discs. When inflamed it can lead to irritation and entrapment of nerves, resulting in a sensation of heat running down the front of the thigh. 🔸Stretching, massage and #acupuncture📍are all highly effective ways to release a tight piriformis and psoas and decrease resulting nerve impingement and pain! Let me know your favourite hip flexor stretches in the comments below!👇🏽 Awesome image via @coretraining_cz - @ginseng_whisperer on Instagram

Some injuries need to be addressed by a specialist / therapist who in some cases may tell you to stop training initially. In these cases, you must listen because antagonising injuries only creates worse problems down the line! However, for those niggles which arent completely prohibitive, there are ways in which can target muscle fibre activation within this area without causing excessive strain, and in some cases incase and aid the recovery process. One of the best ways to do this is using high rep training! Why? When performing higher rep training correctly youre able to apply a lot of effective muscle tissue stimulation on that target muscle whilst using less weight to achieve that. As a result, the connective tissues within the area are less likely to become inflamed. Generally speaking, it is the lower rep, heavy training which can lead to more aggravation within a joint if there is pre-existing inflammation taking place. Dealing with joint issues as a competitive bodybuilder decades ago led me to experiment with high rep training, eventually leading me to devise the Y3T protocol as you know it today! Not only can it lead to less stress on the within joint areas, it forces much more blood into the the origin area. This is key to recovery for any tissue which is inflamed because of the extra nutrients being transported into the area - prompting faster recovery and aiding muscle tissue repair. Be intelligent with your training style and incorporate multi micro cycle rep ranges to aid recovery and force down injuries. - @y3tworld on Instagram

What happened to Tyron Woodley’s Rib? ••••••••••••••••••••••••• Former champ @twooodley returned to the cage last night against nemesis @colbycovmma . In the 5th round Twood attempted a guillotine to counter a takedown from Covington. Covington was able to clear his neck land a body shot which stopped the former champ due to intense pain. What happened to his rib? Why did he have to stop? . Woodley revealed to @arielhelwani that he suffered a rib fracture. Apparently the rib had popped earlier in the fight and when he tried to stand back up with the guillotine attempt it popped again. . Most common mechanism of injury for rib fractures are chest trauma, such as impact during contact sports. In the case of this fight it may have occurred during a takedown. Any rib trauma may have been exacerbated by Woodley’s choke attempt which is commonly finished with an intense oblique crunch (combined spine flexion and lateral flexion). . Rib fractures are incredibly painful however they generally resolve with conservative care. Bone healing typically takes 6-8 weeks if there is no complications. . I wish a speedy recovery to Woodley. - @doctor_kickass on Instagram
