We are back with the #Onthisday series. We were facing some issues . So, 7th September 2018, 2 years back on this day released the extremely underrated film #LailaMajnu. The film was directed by debutant #SajidAli who is the brother of @imtiazaliofficial . The film starred debutants @avinashtiwary15 and @tripti_dimri in lead roles. Unfortunately, due to less publicity, the film was a disaster at the box office. However, when it was released on the OTT platform, it was recognised and appreciated. So, the film narrates the famous tale of Laila and Majnu in modern times. The story is of two people, named Qaiz played by Tiwary and Laila played by Dimri. Initially at loggerheads with each other, they fall in love. But due to some family rivalry the two have to split. The two meet again, but still destiny has other plans, and Qaiz turns manic, psycho due to his longing for Laila. Let me tell you, the performances in this film make you feel that this isnt the first film of debutantes. Avinash Tiwary comes up with a commendable performance, initially the witty, cocky, spoilt brat to the psycho, depressed, manic guy. This guy literally makes you feel for the character. Tripti Dimri too does an amazing job, she has that charm with her, and lemme tell you she is way way beautiful, and should get more chance. What makes this film even more beautiful is its backdrop in Kashmir, the valleys, the mountains all make you feel estatic. And the major plus point, how can I forget, the music of this film. Three cheers for Joi Barua who came up with some amazing tracks. This films album is still one of my favourite ones. With #Aahista and #OMeriLaila being my favourite. Overall it was a beautiful film with a depressing end, depicting unfulfilled love. She often feels sad and isolated from his world but in crisis, is his only anchor. In contrast, Imtiaaz Begum of In Custody is selfish and ambitious. She has no qualms of reciting her poet husband’s couplets as her own and that’s because Begum is a survivor. In Custody was more about poetry and a dying culture than about marriage. There were some films, where the message was bigger than the character and in these films, the couple was usually well adjusted whether they were migrants (Naseer-Shabana) in Paar or weavers in Susman (Om Puri- Shabana) their concerns were the same. If Fire was about choices, then Morning Raga was about melody and Neerja about the loss of a loved one. Its often we want to do something but we end up doing the other, we take certain things for granted, even when we know we should not take anything for granted, this was the reason you came up to be with me back from Kullu, because you never wanted to take your absence as a regret for my death, you always thought you could save me and to be true you did, you made me rise in your love before my last fall. Dan, you stood like a pillar for my mother amidst the chaos and negativity, You unlike others in this world full of people who believe to hide their emotions choose to be a person of zero pretendance. You know Dan, some poems dont rhyme but they are still beautiful, and thats how our bond was. This time when i would ask, Where is Dan? I would know the answer beforehand,, you would be probably sitting under the Jasmine tree, gazing at the stars and talking to them about our unconventional love story.
