#ArarioGalleryExhibition #KIAF2020 #FeaturedArtists ⠀ Today’s KIAF OVR 2020 artist from Arario is BOO Jihyun. ⠀ BOO Jihyun creates three-dimensional and installation works using motives from the sea and the environment based on memories of her childhood spent on Jeju Island. The artist’s inspirations from the sea as well as her autobiographical memories and experiences are amplified through the visualization of her works. By reinterpreting immaterial elements of the sea, including light and darkness, sound, and horizon, through abandoned boats and discarded fishing lamps, the artist questions the condensed timeline of the past, present, and future. BOO, who continually researches topics relating to environmental issues and sustainable art, has been invited to participate in various international land-nature installation art biennales and events such as the Vladivostok Biennale. ⠀ “Net-Being” (2020), which is currently on view in KIAF OVR 2020 has been produced using discarded fishing lamps, which is representative of BOO’s practice. ⠀ Dimly glowing in the darkness, the fishing lights are a reflection of the artist’s fond memories of the fishing boats floating on the shimmering Jeju sea in the depths of night. Reminiscent of fishing lamps hanging on a fishing boat, the lights fall from the ceiling to transform the entire exhibition space into a new environment. ⠀ 오늘 소개시켜드릴 키아프 온라인 뷰잉룸 2020 출품작가는 부지현 작가입니다. ⠀ 부지현 작가는 제주도에서 유년기를 보낸 기억을 바탕으로 바다의 오브제와 환경을 활용한 입체, 설치 작업을 하는 작가입니다. 바다로부터 받은 영감 그리고 본인의 자전적 기억과 경험을 증폭시켜 시각화하는 작업을 하고 있습니다. 작가는 바다에서 비롯된 빛과 어둠, 소리와 수평선 등 비물질적 요소들을 버려진 배나 집어등을 통해 재해석하는 것을 통해 시간의 선상에서 응축되어있는 과거와 현재 그리고 미래에 대해 질문을 던집니다. 이와 함께 환경 문제와 지속가능한 예술에 대해서도 계속적으로 연구해 오고 있으며, 블라디보스토크 비엔날레 등 국제적인 대지-자연 설치 미술 비엔날레와 행사에 초청되기도 했습니다. ⠀ 온라인 뷰잉룸에서 보실 수 있는 Net-Being (2020)은 작가의 대표적인 작업 매체인 폐기된 집어등으로 제작되었습니다. 캄캄한 어둠 속에서 희미하게 빛나는 집어등은 깊은 밤 멀리 바다 위에 떠 있는 어선들의 풍경과 기억 속에 아른거리는 제주의 바다를 향한 작가의 따뜻함이 서려있습니다. 어선에 매달려 있는 집어등처럼 천장에서부터 떨어지는 빛의 조각들은 공간 전체를 새로운 환경으로 탈바꿈시킵니다. ⠀ Net-Being 2020 31 discarded fishing lamps, LED, stainless steel 200 x 125 x 84 cm ⠀ #BOOJihyun @jihyunboo - @arariogallery on Instagram
