📸 1929 - Hollywood Bowl, from the air! The site of the Hollywood Bowl was chosen in 1919 by William Reed and his son H. Ellis Reed. They were tasked at finding a site for the outdoor performances by the members of the newly formed Theatre Arts Alliance headed by Christine Wetherill Stevenson. The place they selected was known as as Daisy Dell in Bolton Canyon, previously a popular location for picnicking. The location was selected for its beauty and for its natural acoustics. Lastly the area was ideal due to its proximity to downtown Hollywood looking forward to returning soon, when gathering is safe. . . . #hollywoodbowl #dome #arch #hollywoodhills #hollywoodhistory #localhistory #architecture #ampitheatre #oldhollywood - @saveiconicarchitecture on Instagram

Tomorrow, this will probably be the most-posted ship on social media as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Japanese Surrender aboard USS Missouri (BB-63) in Tokyo Bay. But, to stay ahead of the curve, here’s Mo while still fitting out at New York Navy Yard on 23 July 1944. This view is from her quarterdeck looking forward towards Turret 3; note the distinctive patch of horizontal camouflage in the foreground. Missouri would join the war almost six months later upon her arrival at Ulithi on 13 January, undertaking her first combat operation 14 days later as part of TF 58’s fast carrier task groups. - @haze_grey_history on Instagram

Located on islands created from landfill, three large freighters were sunk to create a barrier that would shelter the park from any intense waves and winds coming off the lake. Tune in on Facebook, this Wednesday, September 30, 12:30 pm. Before the event, learn more on a virtual #TSAtour of the park.
