Not enough people remember Lillian Smith. She was one of the first white southern authors to crusade against the evils of segregation. Her novel “Strange Fruit” (1944) explored an interracial relationship in a small southern town. Her book “Killers of the Dream” (1949) explored the roots of white privilege and later became a handbook for Freedom Riders in the early 1960s. Her lifelong relationship with a same-sex partner taught her firsthand about intolerance and repression. A child of the South, she was deemed a traitor of the South. She pushed back throughout her life and supported friends such as Eleanor Roosevelt and Martin Luther King, Jr. For her efforts, she was ridiculed, threatened and never fully recognized for her literary abilities. This documentary will explore her life and work, especially as it relates to today’s contentious times, which makes her work more relevant than ever. Above all, the documentary will recognize her legacy as a writer who never stopped dreaming of living in a just society. - @lilliansmithdoc on Instagram

The 2018 TPON TIME Person of the Year: Frank V. Johnson “Usher for a New Era” - On February 20, 2018, Frank Veto Johnson was sworn in as the 30th President of TPON as a Republican from Ohio. Johnson had just won an election of the closest margins, overcoming Senator Warren by just one vote. That one vote may have very well changed the history of our simulation as we know it. Johnson had campaigned heavily on total sim reform. His involvement in the creation of the “TPON 2.0” plan, which outlined some sensible and in other aspects drastic changes to the way TPON operates laid the foundation for goals as President. Some of these goals were included resetting TPON as we know it. Less than a month before Johnson swore in, the new US and TPON Constitutions were officially ratified. Johnson took part in the writings of these Constitutions, being the principal writer of the TPON Constitution in particular. Through the ratification of these Constitutions, Johnson laid the groundwork for the reset. The reset had long been one of TPON’s most controversial issues. When the Constitution was ratified, and Johnson elected as President, he knew he had to be the one to finally turn back the clocks. On March 8th, 2018, President Johnson along with Joseph Pitts and John N. Tesla submitted their final version of the “Reset Act” which after intense debate in Congress made it to Johnson’s desk and thus signed into law. On April 3, 2018, TPON officially rewinded back 86 years smoothly, squashing all of the anti-reset concerns. The bloom of activity following the reset is regarded as one of TPON’s most active period. Despite Johnson serving only one term (albeit extended to 91 days due to new Constitutional provisions), he signed 42 pieces of legislation into law, vetoed 12, and issued numerous executive orders in-line with his Republican platform. In addition, Johnson set a new standard for how to operate the Executive, respond to events, and engage the world. Following his one-term tenure as President, Johnson continued to serve in TPON by authoring and moderating numerous events (which he still does). He now serves on the Supreme Court as an Associate Justice. #tpontime - @time.tpon on Instagram

On June 6th, 1944, David Silva (left) was 19 years old when he landed on Omaha Beach with the 116th Infantry Reg. 29th Division. Upon reaching the sand, he was hit 3 times in the chest by an MG sitting on top of the bluff. Simultaneously, 21 year old Heinrich Severloh (right) of the 352nd Infanterie-Division was manning his MG42 on the same sector that Silva was on. As the day progressed and the Allies overtook the beachhead, Heinrich became a POW. In the mid 1960s, Silva was contacted by Heinrich after he found Silvas name in the book The Longest Day as one of the survivors of the Easy Red sector. Both men met in Germany and after sharing their details of that day, Heinrich realized that he was the one who shot Silva on the beach. Almost 60 years later, both men met on the same landing sector of Omaha beach and shook hands, and this photo captured it all. Silva said: I forgave him, even though he didnt want me to. I think he really wanted this, he was hurting alot. . Heinrich said: There was no glory on the beach that day, just a lot of blood and screams and young men dying. With Silva, you can apologize, the others who died out there, you can no longer apologize. I visit them at the cemetary....we were all boys. #dday #brotherhood #omaha #respect #ww2 #stayzero #zerofoxtrot - @zulufucxs on Instagram

I have been nominated by Dave Love to choose one album per day for ten days that influenced my taste in music. Here is the 7th of my desert island picks- Bill Evans Sunday at the Village Vanguard. The group portrays a mood so strong that it is almost unnerving on this live recording. - There are all kinds of love in this world, but never the same love twice. F. Scott Fitzgerald [765x430]
“You can grow through service, you dont have to burn out through service...you can grow towards freedom when you look directly at suffering. Because if you think your happiness in this society comes from turning your eyes away from people that are suffering, believe me, your happiness is riddled with fear. Ive told the story of standing in Marin County at the beach, naked with a frisbee. I told it last time I was in this hall. Now, you may not want to visualize that. Thats all right if you dont want to. As I stood there, about ready to throw the frisbee, into my mind came the image of Gandhis tomb. Over Gandhis tomb is written, “Think of the poorest person youve ever seen and ask whether your next act will be of any use to that person.” Do you throw the Frisbee or dont you? Thats our question for ourselves really. See, each of us has a unique dharma or a unique path or a unique way through. The game isnt that all of us become alike. Each of us is hearing a different message of what our unique path is in our inner hearts, and it feels right on. For you to deny the beauty in order to deal with the humiliated or deny the humiliated in order to deal with the beauty, youre all of those things. Youve got to listen to all those messages.” - Ram Dass, from our upcoming free virtual course, The Yoga of Service: Approaching Inner and Outer Social Action with a Compassionate Heart Visit RAMDASS.ORG/COURSE or visit the link in the bio to register and join our virtual interactive community. He taught us how to fly. He led dead poets. He was the therapist we didn’t know we needed. He clowned around when we were down and was always there to patch things up. He made genies and magic feel real and he was probably our generations first exposure to cross dressing and lord was he fabulous. Every movie he starred in and every character he played during that golden age showed us how to show up fully, love passionately, to give second chances, to put family first and to fight to get through to people even when it seems like a lost cause. He was an brilliant actor and a hilarious comedian, but he was more than that. All he ever did was use his gifts to make the world a better place. Then a day came when the world was too much for him, and alone one cold morning he took his own life. Just like Anthony Bourdain, Chester Bennington, Avicii, and Chris Cornell, too many of the men who inspire us and light the way lose the will to live and struggle to find that light within themselves. In a world where it seems the very worst of men make decisions for the rest of us, I find myself increasingly focused on looking at human issues from the perspective of mental, emotional, and spiritual health. If even millionaires who have accomplished all of their dreams want to die, I can only imagine how many countless souls in the world are struggling to survive. There’s a quote I like that says ‘be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle that you know nothing about’ but I would take it one step further. Love fearlessly and courageously cause nothing in this life is promised. In a world that obsesses over looks and status and self protection, and from a generation that says “do less” I would challenge us to practice radical love, radical compassion, and radical patience for those around us. It’s been said that the smallest amount of love could change someone’s day, and perhaps now we can take that a step further and recognize that any act of love in this day and age could literally save a life. So here’s to one of the greatest of his generation and may we honor his memory by being messengers of those little acts love. - @dustinthomasxo on Instagram
