Hello everyone! We’ve been getting a lot of messages about our reopening and it’s been a little while since we updated you all on our plans but fear not, we’re still here and have no plans to go anywhere anytime soon. After being open every week for the last 31 years it feels odd not having a presence in our little corner of Liverpool but we feel delaying our reopening has been absolutely necessary for the safety of customers and also our business. We’re now working towards a date at the end of September/beginning of October for our reopening, we’re carefully monitoring the situation in Merseyside and this seems like the most realistic time frame for us. During the last few months the Tuft Wax label has been coming together nicely and we’re hoping to launch the label alongside the relaunch of the shop with releases from Liverpool and beyond come September/October. So for the meantime hold tight, we’re still working on it but the cold San Miguel’s will flow down Slater Street in the not so distant future and you’ll be able to enjoy the Autumn sun whilst listening to some rather good tunes. 7-9 Rathbone Street used to be Jacksons Garage and during World War 2 it was commandeered for an Auxiliary Fire Service substation. At around midnight on 18 September 1940 it was directly hit by a bomb, partly demolishing the building and killing civilians, as well as seven members of the Auxiliary Fire Service. Last Friday 18 September a small memorial ceremony took place at the site to mark 80 years to the day since the firefighters were killed and to pay tribute to the bravery of one of the survivors who acted quickly to save other lives at the site. Auxiliary fireman Alfred George Abrahart, auxiliary fireman Arthur Batchelor, leading auxiliary fireman Jack Bathie, leading auxiliary fireman George Bowen, auxiliary fireman Robert William George, auxiliary fireman Benjamin Mansbridge, and auxiliary fireman Myer Wand all died.
