Manjula Pradeep, director of campaigns at the Dalit Human Rights Defenders Network said, “Dalit women are seen as impure and deprived when they access basic amenities but their bodies are also used as objects to take revenge on the Dalit communities and keep them oppressed.” A joint report by Equality Now and Swabhiman Society found that Dalit women are subjected to more severe or aggravated forms of sexual violence, such as gang-rapes or rape with murder. Divya Srinivasan, a consultant with Equality Now said, “In many instances, sexual violence committed against Dalit women and girls is perpetrated by men from dominant ‘upper castes’, who use sexual violence as a tool to assert power and reinforce existing caste, social and gender hierarchies.” Yet, hundreds of comments under our posts vehementely question us for using ‘Dalit’ to identify the Hathras victim. India continues to remain reluctant to confront the reality of caste-based sexual violence. Far from acknowledging its responsibility to uphold legal obligations to address discrimination and cruelty ebbing from casteism, both social and instituionalised, the opposite seems to be the norm. These entrenched hierarchies of power continue to give attackers a worrying sense of impunity. Assaults on lower caste women are rarely investigated or prosecuted, and in the case of Dalit victims, hardly prompt any media coverage or public outrage. The government has consistently failed to challenge the deep-rooted discriminatory attitudes that underpin the caste system and subordination of women, evident in brutal cases like this one. Protests break out in different parts of the country to demand justice for Hathras victim. The woman died on Tuesday at the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. She had suffered multiple fractures and other serious injuries when she was assaulted by four upper caste men from her village on September 14. The four men have been arrested. Her family say the police cremated the girl’s body in a hurry without the family’s consent at 3am on Wednesday, and locked them in their homes. Videos on social media showed the family arguing with policemen and weeping as the police insisted on cremating the body without allowing them to take the body home. The incident has triggered nationwide outrage against sexual violence that women face, and has foregrounded the deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. Several politicians called the hasty cremation an abuse of human rights. They have also questioned the exploitative caste hierarchy in the state under Adityanath’s rule. In Lagos, the authorities chartered a plane to take a hundred journalists to the former Biafra. But all the seats on the plane are already taken – the world press is here – and they are expensive. I am penniless and the advance on fees from Jeune Afrique has been exhausted. Regardless, I still go to the airport with the other journalists and head towards the bridge of the plane, as if my name is on the list that an attendant is ticking. When it is my turn, he pretends to look at his list, then beckons to me to enter. Up till today, I still wonder why he did that? I learn that luck is earned” - abbas. The media presence in Biafra between 1970 and 1971 was a very important story for the beginning of photography used by aid agencies. It was the the first time that there was media interest in a story like Biafra, which led to non government organisations like Oxfam and was hugely successful in fundraising, using the pictures coming from agencies. SAVE HER by Correct Bro - Gone are the days when we used to cook fried rice with chicken to celebrate Independence Day. - The days when the streets were painted with green and white. - The days when clothing stores are packed with green and white shirts ready to be sold... - The days when people were itching to hear the 7 o clock speech from our president - Gone are the days when we see great match pass from our children, our youths, our military, our civil servants. - What has happened to her? Is she sick? Can she be revived? Is she dead? - So many questions with simple answers but complicated solutions. - The doctors handling her are not capable but wont let go. - They threaten to kill you if you want to save her. - They keep all her breast milk to themselves and allow her seed to die of starvation. - They throw drops of milk to silent the few grown ups who can talk and lock up the ones who refuse the epileptic offer. - They continually give her wrong dosage of her medicine. - They leave her in a dark ward where the noise of machines worsen her case. - They use the police to prevent her from being saved. - They only come to her seed when they want to rotate the leadership of the hospital. - No wonder the great Chinua Achebe said There was a country - Oh But... - Can we save her? Who will save? It is the painful sensation or state of weakness caused by the need of food.✴️ . An estimate of 690 million people are going hungry, 2 billion suffering from malnutrition even though there is enough food, and resources for all‼️ . Hunger is in many cases a result of wars, plagues and adverse weather conditions. 🔺The FAOs 2017 report discussed three principal reasons for the recent increase in hunger: 1. climate 2. conflict 3. economic slowdowns. . What is more is that according to a report published by the World Bank, 60% of those who are hungry are female!🚺 . Many organisations are working tirelessly towards making the world Hunger free or providing as many as they can with the basic nutritional needs. But it all starts with you, and heres what we as an individual can do to help eradicate hunger from the World:-- ✓Please please dont waste FOOD! It is a blessing that you are being provided with food to eat. Respect it.🙏 ✓Dont throw away the food which you are unable to eat. You can give it to a person who is in need of it more than you. You can save a life like this.👍💪 ✓ If you are unable to go out and give the food out to someone else, you can put it on a plate out for the migrating birds.🐦 ✓ While attending parties and functions, make sure you fill your plate with food which you can eat. It hurts to see the food being thrown away.💔 ✓Donate if you can to organisations like FeedIndia, Feeding America, Action Against Hunger etc. ✓Spread awareness.✊🙌 . .
