So we had a big announcement that we were really excited to share with yall this week, but there are more important things going on. As most of you know, a severe category 4 hurricane slammed almost directly into the Texas/Louisiana border late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, leaving a path of destruction in its wake. The storm surge was thankfully nowhere near as bad as it was predicted to be, but the winds and rains certainly left their mark. More than half a million people are without power. Houses and businesses were destroyed and windows were blown out of buildings. There have been no confirmed casualties here in our state, but there have been 2 confirmed in Louisiana. Thousands are left without homes. Here at Third Coast Traveler, we ask that youd find it in your heart to help in whatever way you can. Either by making a monetary or supply donation to reputable organizations that are on the front lines helping to rescue those still in danger, restore power to cities, deliver food and water, and helping to clean up and rebuild homes and neighborhoods. I am seriously out of words. I don’t know what to say. It hurts my heart to see this happening. Please read to see how you can help! . Right after packing my bags for my flight to Lebanon, I spoke with my family on our WhatsApp group. Out of nowhere they all started sending each other voice messages asking if everyone is ok, where my brother is, etc. A fire at the port of Beirut caused a massive explosion, turning everything into rubbles for several kilometers, destroying thousands of homes, buildings and businesses in downtown Beirut, killing countless people. . Moments before the explosion, all my friends confirmed having heard Israeli warplanes (as they weekly/daily enter Lebanese airspace), however, Israel has denied having any relations to it. The media is claiming more than 2,700 tonnes of nitrate ammonium was stored and that’s what caused the explosion, but not much about what caused the fire. . No matter what the cause, my heart aches for all those who lost a loved one and all those who are suffering. . I have launched a fundraiser to provide healthy plant based food for all the victims who are suffering from this explosion, and will check if any non human animals are in need of financial help for any medical attention. Um pouco de História 📖 . Implosão do Edifício Mendes Caldeira em 16 de novembro 1975, para dar lugar a estação Sé do metrô. O edifício de 30 andares foi inaugurado em 1961, contava com 364 escritórios e chegou a receber importantes empresas mundiais, como a Mercedes-Benz. Foi o primeiro edifício implodido no Brasil, substituindo o uso de picaretas, e utilizou-se cerca de 360 quilos de explosivos para trazer a construção até o chão. Na época, os responsáveis pelas obras do metrô temiam que o Mendes Caldeira caísse sobre a Catedral da Sé, e a prejudicasse estruturalmente. O edifício foi apenas um dos inúmeros outros importantes ícones da arquitetura paulistana que foram destruídos por causa do metrô, e de fato a maior perda de todas foi a demolição do seu vizinho, o Palacete Santa Helena. . #️⃣ O que é Implosão ? Incendiary bombs descend in a hail of fire and fury onto the city of Kobe, Japan from B-29 Superfortress bombers; 1945. This mission formed part of the strategic bombing campaign waged by the United States against military and civilian targets during the Japan home islands campaign in the closing stages of World War II. The sixth-largest city in Japan at the time, with a population of roughly 1 million it would be bombed once more a month later. The houses were mostly built with wood making them highly flammable. As Japans largest port, home to the largest concentration of shipbuilding and industry, and an important city for transportation Kobe was a high priority target. Its low water supply and poor firefighting equipment created quite literally a tinderbox for city wide destruction. Of the citys residents, 8,841 were confirmed to have been killed in the resulting firestorms, destroying 21% of Kobes urban area. More than 650,000 people had their homes destroyed. During the raid, 280 Japanese fighters were spotted, 96 of which engaged the B-29 bombers in 128 attacks; this constituted a higher proportion of fighters sighted to those attacking than previously experienced during a night raid over Japan. Three bombers were lost during the raid. Two of the airmen in the downed aircraft, Sergeant Algy S. Augunus and Second Lieutenant Robert E. Copeland, survived and were captured by the Japanese. A MASSIVE explosion in Lebanons capital city Beirut has killed at least 100 people and injured nearly 4,000 others. The enormous blast could be heard some 125 miles away in Cyprus after it erupted in the port area of Beirut. 🔸What happened in Lebanon? The death toll in Beirut has risen to 100 after a huge explosion ripped through a port area. Lebanese health minister Hamad Hasan said I have never in my life seen a disaster this big, as 250,000 people were left homeless. Pictures showed buildings destroyed, people walking wounded, and a sea of wreckage after the blast that could be heard some 125 miles across the sea in Cyprus. Nearby buildings around the port have been leveled, windows and doors blown out, and fires continue to burn as smoke plumes billow across the Lebanese capital. 🔸What caused the Beirut explosion? The source of the blast is believed to be 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate which had been stored in a warehouse without safety measures since 2014. Security sources reportedly claimed a welder had sparked the initial fire that in turn ignited the chemicals - causing a blast the fifth the size of Hiroshima. Ammonium nitrate is mainly used as a fertilizer but has also been linked to terror attacks after being used in homemade bombs. Lebanons internal security chief Abbas Ibrahim has insisted that these were explosive materials rather than military-grade explosives. Security services there said the carnage may have been caused by a fire in a depot of highly volatile materials seized from a ship a few months ago and stored there. 🔸 What did the officials say about blast? Lebanon’s Prime Minister Hassan Diab said that those responsible for the explosion at a “dangerous” warehouse in Beirut port area that rocked the capital would pay the price. He said: “I promise you that this catastrophe will not pass without accountability. A truly massive explosion in #Beirut #Lebanon earlier today. Initial reports tell the story of a “fireworks storage facility caught fire and ignited”. But we know better than that, don’t we? 🇱🇧 My family is from Lebanon. They emigrated in the 1970s to escape a brutal and bloody civil war. The brown skin, brown hair, brown eyes you see as me are due to my Lebanese genes & heritage. I visited Lebanon in 2004 with my father. I got to experience our homeland firsthand. I have been to the exact area here now completely destroyed. Extended family and colleagues still live here. 🇱🇧 My duty here is to express my Truth. My Truth here is that this was no accident. There has been tension for decades between Lebanon and #Israel, this is no secret. #Hezbollah has been at the forefront of this guerrilla war; partially to protect the Lebanese, partially for power. Hezbollah and Israel regularly trade raids, bombs, mortar shells, and casualties near the border. 🇱🇧 The United States loves brands (particularly our own). Our government chose to brand Hezbollah a “terrorist organization” in 1997, to manipulate public opinion, much like Trump just did with #Antifa. Yes, Hezbollah is responsible for many heinous acts; but by the very same criteria we’ve declared them “terrorists”, our own government tops that list. That includes both corrupt parties. The fundamental intention of our country since WWII has been to terrorize the world for leverage and power, masquerading as “stamping out Communism”. 🇱🇧 Look into the atrocities across Latin America and Asia over the last 70 years as we’ve murdered millions to plant our chosen leaders across the world, with little to no success. Multiple Roof Rope Rescues last night in Harlem! ⠀⠀⠀ “There were multiple people trapped above the fire here in dire, extreme conditions of heat and smoke. Members aggressively entered the building, pushed forward, went to the roof and working together, members of #Ladder23 #Ladder34 and #Squad41 used two roof-ropes. They deployed two roof-ropes from the roof down to the sixth floor and were able to rescue a five-year-old child, and keep another seriously exposed person within the apartment, and save that person. Twelve people in all were saved at this fire thanks to the excellent abilities of these members,” says #FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro on scene in Washington Heights, where FDNY members put into operation two separate life-saving ropes to access individuals trapped in sixth-floor apartments above a 2-alarm fire burning on the fifth floor. Firefighter Jose Castro of Squad 41 was lowered from the roof to the sixth floor, where it was deemed safe to remove the person through the interior. Simultaneously, Firefighter Jairo Sosa of Ladder 34 lowered Firefighter Abe Miller of Ladder 23 to the sixth floor, where he rescued a five-year-old child from the window and lowered the child safely to the ground below. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Firefighter Miller says, “When we looked over the side of the building we saw a little girl’s hands on the window guards and her grandmother was holding her up to try to get her out just so she could breathe. Firefighter Sosa already had the life-saving rope out. We’ve worked together before so we jumped into action and everything just happened so quick. I went over and he lowered me down to the window. I was able to punch through the window and grab the child out of the window. FF Sosa lowered me to the ground. It was tough but we did what we had to do, we didn’t think twice about it. We practice this drill every Monday, but this was my first roof-rope rescue. Solidarité Liban : la Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris-Hôpitaux de France attribue une aide exceptionnelle d’urgence pour accompagner l’Hôtel Dieu de France – Université Saint Joseph de Beyrouth. Suite à la double explosion qui a eu lieu le mardi 4 août 2020 à Beyrouth, la ville fait face à une situation sanitaire catastrophique dans un pays déjà en pleine crise économique, où manquent les produits de première nécessité et où près de 50% de la population se situe en dessous du seuil de pauvreté. La Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris-Hôpitaux de France, présidée par Brigitte Macron, a attribué une aide exceptionnelle d’urgence de 500 000 euros pour accompagner l’Hôtel Dieu de France, le centre hospitalier universitaire à but non lucratif de l’Université Saint Joseph de Beyrouth, qui a immédiatement déclenché son « plan désastre » et mobilisé l’ensemble de ses équipes malgré les dégâts matériels très importants subis à l’hôpital. ➡️ L’aide de la Fondation permettra notamment le financement de matériel individuel de protection, d’autant plus indispensable dans la situation de pandémie Covid-19, mais aussi, de médicaments et de matériel médical et para-médical de base : fils de suture, cathéters, prothèses orthopédiques, prothèses ophtalmologiques. شهرين على جريمة المرفأ .. وحده العلم اللبناني يٌزيّن المكان ويمنحنا الأمل. 🙏🏼 🇱🇧 رغم كل الدمار والخراب، رغم الفاجعة والحزن والضحايا، يبقى هو الأمل. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ عقب كارثة 4 آب التي حلّت بلبنان، بدأ لافتاً التضامن العالمي معه، فبعد أيام معدودة من الإنفجار بدأت المساعدات الخارجية بالتدفق على أكثر من صعيد تبعاً للحاجات المحلية، ومن ضمنها وصول فرق أجنبية متخصصة للمساعدة في رفع الأنقاض وإنتشال الجثث ومسح الأضرار والتحقيق في أسباب الحادثة، خصوصاً بعد رفض السلطات اللبنانية تدويل الملف قضائياً وإعطاء الأفضلية للتحقيق المحلّي، في حين أعطى رئيس الجمهورية ميشال عون مهلة 5 أيام للكشف عن المسؤولين للرأي العام، ولم يتم الإلتزام بها كما جرت العادة لبنانياً، في حين عاهد مجلس القضاء الأعلى الشعب اللبناني العمل من دون هوادة على أن تُنجز التحقيقات في ملفّ الانفجار للوصول إلى تحديد المسؤوليات الملائمة بحقّ المرتكبين. وفيما تناط التحقيقات بالسرية وفق ما ينصّ عليه قانون أصول المحاكمات الجزائية، والمبدأ عينه متّبع من قبل قيادة الجيش التي تَقرر وضع بقعة الفاجعة تحت إشرافها، أكّدت أوساط سياسية مطلعة لـ المركزية أن فريق التحقيق الفديرالي الأميركي (FBI) وفريق التحقيق الفرنسي المتخصص في الكيماويات، إضافةً إلى سواها من الفرق الأجنبية المتخصصة التي جاءت إلى بيروت بعد إنفجار المرفأ بغية تقديم المساعدة، غادرت مسرح الجريمة منذ ثلاثة أسابيع وذلك بعد الإنتهاء من التحقيق العيني، وإطلاعها عن كثب على ما جرى، إلى جانب حصولها على إفادات عدد من المسؤولين، ونقلها عينات من مخلفات الإنفجار إلى بلادها بهدف إخضاعها للفحوصات اللازمة لتتمكن، بناءً عليه، من إصدار التقرير النهائي. ✍🏽: وكالة الأنباء المركزية #فاجعة_بيروت #لبنان_منكوب #بيروت_منكوبة #لبنان_ينزف #إنفجار_بيروت #مرفأ_بيروت #بيروت_لبنان #مدينة_بيروت #بيروت #لبنان @nabilismail.photojournalist, @beirutpage, @tyrepage, @lebnen #TalkAboutLebanon #TalkAboutBeirut #BeirutExplosion #PrayForBeirut #TyrePage #BeirutPage #Beyrouth #Beirut #Liban #Libano #Lebnen #Lebanon - @lebanon on Instagram
