Power Tower is an installation made in Pals beach, province of Girona. Is a protest against the sentences that the Spanish justice is decreeing to the people of @t66_judici who demonstrated against the MAT Towers, a harmful Transmission Towers which were built through lobbies and bribes to politicians. Few months ago this towers fell down as a result of a storm but this was not published in any media. Curiously when we built our wooden tower, a person in charge of the Environment of the Town Hall appeared and declared that this installation was totally illegal and it couldnt stay there in case it could fall with the wind or hurt someone in the beach. The goverment want to remove our tower because it is dangerous but MAT Towers that are a big danger to the natural environment (and more dangerous for people than our installation) are allowed to continue there. Даже не верится, что эта бухта может быть тихой, спокойной и ласковой⛱️ Сюда легко добраться из посёлка Преображение, до спуска к пляжу проедет даже легковушка. В самой бухте можно запросто провести целый день - она достаточно большая. Также интересно будет прогуляться по сопкам вдоль береговой линии, виды оттуда открываются просто потрясающие! In honor of #EarthDay this year, we have some promising news to share from a project in our timberlands in southwest Oregon. For the first time in 70 years, threatened and vulnerable migratory fish now have access to two additional miles of critical cold-water habitat on a restored section of Baker Creek, a tributary of the Coquille River. The collaborative effort between Weyerhaeuser and multiple private, nonprofit and government organizations removed a longstanding human-made barrier to fish passage and helped return the creek to its natural state. ”The rivers are back” said our trusted pilot Haraldur as we glided over the glacial rivers that flowed through the highlands as veins. It’s an incredible view that expresses the complex beauty of the natural world. The glacial process is fascinating and it’s a tragedy that we’re losing them. I’m very new to aerial photography and so far I’d say the most important thing in it is good communication with your pilot before, during and after the flight. This was my second time on air with Haraldur and I have full confidence in him. Maybe he has some for me as well since I got to steer the plane too and kind of got my first flying lesson on air. You will see a lot more of aerial photos when I have the time to go through them. Exploring the magic of photography! With @alexskalin / Being a photographer and traveler in Russia means facing some infrastructure weaknesses and spending a lot of time, effort and money to get to an interesting location. But it means nothing when you see those amazing places with your own eyes. The thing I really like about such an inaccessibility is feeling a pioneer and being alone with nature. When in hard-to-reach places, I can stay in a tent at night, moreover I have got a fully equipped sleeping place in my car. This strategy works for me because I like to stay with nature one-on-one to create. I would say that creating great footage does not depend on technique at all, it depends a little on location and a bit more on the weather. But if your inner state does not resonate with a surrounding space, even perfect weather conditions do not guarantee the magic of photography to happen. I have noticed that I captured most of my good photos in deserted places, or, if in a tourist spot, at dawn, when everyone is still sleeping. Thats the only way I can tune in with nature. In order to prepare my trips - although I am very spontaneous and chaotic - I research on social media beforehand using hashtags and geolocation and save interesting spots. But I do not line up precise routes on the map and have no explicit timing. Only after setting off I choose the first place and study the weather forecast. Then, on location, I can’t explain how I know I got ‘the’ shot. I enter the flow state during the shooting, and the outer world does not exist at that moment. I maniacally try to make the most of every location. Usually I do hundreds of takes where composition differs by a couple of millimeters or minor details. So when I look through the shots on my camera display, something inside just ‘flips’ at some point, and I get it. It’s magic for me every time. The South Boathouse at Sugar Pine Point State Park is home to this unusual structure... have you seen it? Contrary to popular belief this is not a train track leading into the center of the lake. It’s actually a historic boat launch used to move boats into and out of the lake from their storage facilities in the early 1900’s. As the wealthy began to settle in Lake Tahoe they needed somewhere safe to store their boats during the snowy winter season. We just launched a new blog series called Northern Latitudes, where we feature topical maps from our Arctic Marine Atlas and elsewhere, with a peek behind the scenes into how they are made. The focus of our first blog in the series is on two maps from our Arctic Marine Atlas: one map that illustrates polynyas and another showing phytoplankton blooms.⠀ ⠀ Polynyas are areas of water that remain open even when surrounded by sea ice. Flaw leads are also areas of open water that form between sea ice that is attached to land and the moving pack ice. These two maps demonstrate the important role that polynyas and flaw leads play in supporting Arctic ecosystems and phytoplankton growth. I had never been completely happy with this image so I thought it was time for an update. The ice of the frozen lake is unique as it is absolutely see-through and when you are walking on it you can see several metres down. Baikal freezes relatively late and in January lots of ice-hummocks form massive blocks of ice, some reaching heights of multi-storey buildings. It’s a weird feeling to still be in the Yukon as we head into September 🍂 For the last five years the end of August has meant packing up my summer life in the Yukon and heading down to Ontario. But with everything that is happening in the world my university has transitioned to online classes meaning I’ll be doing my last year of school remotely from my home in the Yukon 🏔 I’m not sure how to feel about this or how it’s going to go... =========================== A truly magical sunrise at Natural Bridge Cove of Samuel H. Boardman Wayside State Park on the Oregon Southern Coast just the other day! This cove is just south of Cape Blanco and north of Brookings, Oregon in Curry County. The park is 12 miles north to south with forested rugged steep coastline interrupted by small sand beaches. Arch Rock and natural Bridges are the main attraction here, but there is so much that you can also see along 27 miles of trails. Walking along the forests trails you will see 300 hundred year old Sitka spruce trees. There are also seaside prairies, forested sea stacks like the one you see here, stunning vistas, and rugged cliffs to just name some of the natural wonders you will see on the trails! This summer we planned a 10-day trip to all the places we didn’t have the chance to visit yet. This trip was our honeymoon, we eloped in Tofino and then we started our adventure! Here are our favourite places. The colourful community of Coombs can’t go unnoticed. At Old Country Market (@goatsontheroof), you can find local fruits, baked treats, restaurant dining but also shop for unique gifts, beautiful clothing and linen. We decided to try homemade gelato from Billy Gruff Creamery. Everything about their store made us feel at home. Our trip continued to Strathcona Provincial Park, just past Comox Valley. It was simply astonishing. We stopped for short hikes looking at waterfalls and panoramas. At the end of Buttle Lake, you can see the calm of the lake surrounded by mountains and its creeks that flow into it. Next was Telegraph Cove, a small village with colourful buildings full of character. The village is on Johnstone Strait and a large number of orcas and whales spend summer there. We booked a tour with @princeofwhaleswhalewatching and it was such a great experience! We spotted harbour porpoises, orcas and two humpback whales. We’ll never forget the emotions we felt that day. Desolation Sound is a deep-water sound with an archipelago of 82 islands and we took a tour with @terracentricadventures to learn more about it. The water is calm and quiet and it lives up to its name of Desolation Sound. We spotted a variety of sea stars, sea cucumbers, anemones and many harbour seals. We ended our adventure in Savary Island, a little piece of paradise. A 15-minute water taxi from Lund and you can enjoy white sand beaches, warm waters and spectacular mountain views. Beautiful cliffs with the forest on top, an empty beach and sandpipers looking for food in the crystal water. Early this summer I went to Five Islands and managed to get a shot of a thunderstorm rolling across the Bay of Fundy. A few weeks ago my friend Steve Lawrence went out and shot some amazing pictures of the Five Islands from the tip. Wizard Island Wizard island is a volcanic cinder cone which has formed an island in the west end of Crater Lake National Park, Oregon. The volcano was created more than 6,000 years ago when a volcano erupted into what is know today as Crater Lake National Park. Wizard island is built on a platform of andesite lava. It includes a large cone of andesite cinder which formed on top. Some parts of the cone which form Wizard island were formed by eruptions underwater, while other sections were part of eruptions above water. The island looks relatively small within the large lake and high rim walls. The island actually rises about 767 feet above the surface of the lake and about 2,400 - 2,500 feet above the floor of the caldera under the surface of the lake. The island is about 1 mile across. The area at the base of the cone is approximately 3.02 square miles. The volume of the cone is 0.6 cubic miles.
