Irving Penn was my greatest teacher, my severest critic, and he became my very dear friend. For more than 20 years, I was his editor at Vogue magazine, where we collaborated on more than 400 photographs. I’m Phyllis Posnick, Contributing Editor (formerly Executive Fashion Editor) at the magazine, and I have been invited by The Irving Penn Foundation to share some of our stories. Anna Wintour wanted Penn in each issue, which meant I spoke to him almost every day, either on the phone or in his studio, in hopes of persuading him to illustrate an article or do a portrait or photograph fashion. It often took more than two months from our first conversation about a subject to the day of the sitting (never called “a shoot”). These conversations established the direction of his picture. Every detail had to be considered in advance. He would ask what I was going to put on a model’s head/arms/feet; was I planning to leave her neck bare, what was the makeup, the hair. Of course things changed on the sitting day, but he wanted to “see” the picture and know that I saw it. Sometimes he would challenge me: “I don’t think you really believe in this picture.” I would have to prove that I did. This photo was built around a mask that makeup artist Peter Philips had designed. I liked its “Minnie Mouse Couture” look and brought it to Penn who thought it was charming. For a long few minutes Penn was quiet, and then said he imagined the mask on a “young woman wearing an old-fashioned negligé.” I found negligés, blouses that looked like negligés, blouses that didn’t look like negligés, vintage negligés, anything that could be considered a negligé, and brought a rack of clothes to his studio. Penn liked only one! On the day of the sitting, Peter made model Lisa Cant’s face pale so she would look more mysterious behind the mask and whitewashed her body at Penn’s direction. Our hairdresser, Julien d’Ys, prepared romantic hair. But when she sat in front of the camera, something still wasn’t right. Her dark hair disappeared against the dark background. Но. Нет промежутка между обезьяной и человеком, слишком большой разрыв, так говорят учёные. В древних мифах разных народов мира есть рассказы о пришельцах на летающих колесницах которых называли богами. Они взяли за основу обезьяну и вывели человека возможно с помощью изменения генов. И создал Бог человека по образу и подобию своему. Боги обучали людей,наставляли, давали им такие знания которые человек никогда бы сам не получил. Были случаи скрещивания богов и людей. Получались мутанты/ титаны/нефилимы, много названий.. Об этом рассказывается во многих мифах и библии тоже. И в раскопках иногда попадаются гигантские человеческие кости. В общем, боги - это не кто иные, как инопланетяне. У каждого народа они имеют разные имена и обличия, но это одни и те же боги. Яхве( бог евреев) один из них, сейчас у него заканчивается срок правления примерно в 21м году как предсказывали Майя. Об этом говорят ведьмы. In her work, she uses the culturally inscribed notions of particular mediums – like the soft, feminine fabric of clothing, or the hard, masculine industrial finishes of metals – as a way to examine the construction of gender. This root dress is one in a series of large metal dresses, each fabricated from a single sheet of cold-rolled steel. The dress shapes vary, and forms are cut out of the interior to resemble textile patterns, images from nature, or forms historically associated with femininity. Hunt explains that she is drawn to feminisms acceptance of domestic activities as a valid approach to contemporary art practice. Thus, she considered the process of making these steel dresses as sewing with fire – a reference to cutting steel with a welding torch. To me, the roots in this root dress also speak to the metaphoric roots of genealogy, of ‘family roots’, or even of being rooted in, or to, a certain place, identity, or gender. In that sense then, this steel dress seems firmly anchored, as if it extends down into some unknown, unseen soil – grounded. Or, is it floating, fluid, and unstable – unconnected to anything in particular?
