This beautiful, remarkable magazine is now on newsstands. Many of you started following me because of the 2018 Outside Magazine piece that I wrote called Were Here. You Just Dont See Us. This piece, Out There Nobody Can Hear You Scream, is the story of what came after. It contains the rawest, realest piece of writing Ive ever published about the outdoors. There is a piece of my soul in those pages, and I will never get it back. If youre able to make it out to a newsstand, I hope that youll pick up a copy. I am still in recovery mode from writing this, and not on social media as much. I want to let you know that I see all your messages, even though I might not be quick to respond. These deep dives--into Americas truth, into Americas history are incredibly heavy, and the state of our nation demands that I keep doing them. But they come at a cost. It is a joy to see @badgal_brooky Brooklyn Bells face in an ad for GoRVing, and @zionwilliamson Zion Williamsons face (hes from Spartanbug yall) mid-dunk for Gatorade. To see work from photographers like Brad Ogbonna @bradogbonna and Kennedi Carter @internetbby, and a photo of Team Onyx from Worlds Toughest Race: EcoChallenge Fiji. We are getting closer, but there is much work to do. This essay was hard but there is great rejoicing for me in these pages because the people in these pages are getting PAID--not in gear, but in actual money, which is what I asked for in my Outdoor Retailer editorial letter.
