My obsession with Anthony Moores shelved 1976 Virgin Records album Out has finally manifested in its first ever vinyl release, coming OUT November 2020 via Drag City! After many discussions with Mr. Moore and taking the album to various labels to find/generate interest, I was finally able (thanks to Emmett Kelly 🙌) to liaise Anthony with Drag City who took the ball and ran with it. The album, recorded in 1975, did actually see a sketchy release in the 90s as a cd and with new album art, but this is the first time it will be on vinyl and with the original album art by Hipgnosis. I May Destroy You is a BBC TV series created, written, co-directed, and executive produced by Michaela Coel I finished watching this last night and cannot give it anything less than a 10/10. Firstly, the appreciation of the black talent that is Michaela Coel. When she was writing the second series of Chewing Gum, her first and award winning series, Michaela took a break from work and went out for a drink with a friend. The next morning, she woke up and started having flashbacks. Michaela realised her drink had been spiked and shed been sexually assaulted. This experience then became the basis of IMDY. Shes an amazing actress and an incredibly strong person to be able to write about her own experiences and turn it into this provocative and educational, yet entertaining piece of work. IMDY explores the intricacies around everyday life of a woman who experienced sexual assault. Themes include consent, black identity, sexuality, gender, social media, race, drugs, friendship, and more. Michaela cleverly wraps all these important concepts into this digestible world full of relatable characters. Insight on the experiences of women, especially black women, isnt one Ive been well versed on but Ive been learning more and more in behaviours, posts, reading. This show highlights some of the predatory behaviours of men, some of which we all exhibit in one form or another. The idea that rape or sexual assault has to involve physical violence and is forceful by nature is an outdated and dangerous notion as there are numerous different ways sexual assault can occur and its important that everyone understands this to stop the ever present rape apologist and victim blaming mindset. According to Rape Crisis, 20% of women and 4% of men have experienced some type of sexual assault since the age of 16 in England and Wales. A BBC investigation also found more than 2,600 reports of drink-spiking incidents in England and Wales between 2015 and 2019. 72% of alleged victims were female. IMDY rightly highlights these issues which should make everyone question their own behaviour and be more aware of how these issues can affect their friends and families. JOY DIVISION con CLOSER: un epitafio hacia la eternidad 🎧🌟🖤 Para cuando se grabó este disco histórico, en 12 dias durante marzo de 1980, la situación en el seno de JD se encontraba en un exasperante punto de dualidad: el grupo era una máquina sonora que se llevaba todo por delante, con una oscuridad y cuota parte de desesperación notable que lo hacía más morbosamente atractivo aún, y a punto de tomar el mercado norteamericano de un solo golpe con una inminente gira a bordo de su discazo debut Unknown Closer, lanzado sólo unos meses antes. Pero en paralelo, el estado de salud de su cantante con sus ataques de epilepsia y el pozo depresivo en el que se encontraba sumido -y la intriga que ese péndulo anímico traía consigo- lo ponía todo en duda no habiendo certeza alguna de solución de continuidad. En ese contexto tan poco proyectable los de Manchester grabaron Closer, dos meses antes de un suicidio que dejó pasmados a todos y que los obligó a una profunda introspección personal y profesional. Si Unknown Pleasures bucea en las nervaduras del alma y las deja expuestas a quien las quiera ver, Closer te empuja al frío cadalso de la muerte ya desde su excepcional portada, nuevamente a cargo de Peter Saville, quien diseñó esa profunda premonición en abstracto sobre la base de una fotografía de una escultura de la familia Appiani, del cementerio de Génova, sin haber escuchado nada del nuevo disco y obviamente sin adivinar la decisión final de Ian Curtis. Lanzado en julio del ‘80, el LP es tan lúgubre y bello como estremecedor, y forma parte de lo mejor que dejó el post punk como legado.
