FISAC EN EMIRATOS ÁRABES UNIDOS Miguel Fisac inicia a partir de 1970 una serie de contactos con los Emiratos Árabes Unidos que están planteando construcciones y ordenaciones urbanas. En La Fundación Fisac un conjunto de documentos muy diversos dan cuenta de estos contactos: tarjetas de personas con las que contacta, correspondencia, resguardos del hotel o de los menús de algunas celebraciones que de manera dispersa van dejando testimonio de su interés por construir en esta zona. En sus relaciones con los Emiratos Árabes trata de realizar proyectos de diferente entidad. La documentación conservada es parcial con croquis, correspondencia y algunos dibujos más elaborados. Su proyecto para un hotel en Abu Dhabi en 1976, su presencia como jurado en el concurso de ordenación de la isla de Similiyat en 1981 con uno de sus cuadernos de viaje son los primeros proyectos conocidos en UAE. En 1982 se presenta al concurso de la gran sala de conferencias y ese mismo año elabora un proyecto para un centro comercial y residencial con la torre torsionada como elemento central. Un proyecto del que se conservan diferentes perspectivas y una maqueta. Y finalmente, un proyecto para un edificio de usos comercial y residencial en 1984. Proyectos con documentación parcial que dan cuenta de la intensa actividad de Miguel y su intención de conjugar las características de una arquitectura del lugar con las técnicas modernas que conoce. My brother Casey died last night. Thinking of beautiful memories has been challenging - as my older brother, he never made it easy for me. He saved me twice when I was small. Carried me to the hospital when I broke my tiny leg. He said I had nine lives. He had one, and it was wrought with pain that we couldnt help or understand. Im writing this surrounded by redwoods that have survived for thousands of years; loved for their beauty - resilient because of their biology. Around me, my homeland burns. My brother will also be reduced to ash, but still loved and remembered the way he wanted to live: fearlessly. When Casey passed, in a hospital bed alone, I was a few miles away with my father. The wind stopped. The birds were quiet. And I looked away to notice the change. I didnt know it at the time, but Casey was taking his final, labored breaths. A few moments later, we got the call. This year has brought so much pain, and this is just another part of that process. I hope that anyone reading this knows these truths: there is a sky above them, a sea to touch and heal, and a world to embrace. There will be fire. There will be ash. But there will also be love. There will be little green flowers that multiply and turn into poppy red, blue, and all the colors we see a little differently. Without a doubt, the redwoods will grow. The Hawaiian beaches where me and Casey learned to surf at will be lush with fish. The songs we laughed to will play and I will remember him at his brightest light, always. ~~~~ If anyone you know or love is struggling with substance abuse, or you yourself are in need of help, I send you love and support.
