ANNYE CAMARA & OUR LOCAL GROCERS Outside of the Nantucket Cottage Hospital, the frontlines of the coronavirus on the island have been largely at local grocery stores. Ti tudtátok, hogy Micimackó igazából kanadai származású?🐻🏕🦟 🇬🇧From Lion’s Head we took a ferry to the Manitoulin Island and from there we were hitchhiking direction British Columbia. On the road we stopped by some places, like the Lake Superior State Park, where we saw really old paintings on the cliff made by the First Nation in Canada. We slept in a Reserve of the First Nation and once we found a little homemade climbing wall and millions of mosquitoes too. Also we had a chance to see Winnipeg, which is the hometown of Winnie the Pooh. Last month, more than 600 used fuel drums were successfully removed from the Torngat Mountains Base Camp and Research Station, also known as Kangidlusuak. The project was a collaborative effort between the Nunatsiavut Government, @parks.canada, Nunatsiavut Group of Companies, Air Borealis and Oceans North. ⠀ ⠀ The rugged peaks of the Torngats rise some 200 km north of Nain, the northernmost community in Nunatsiavut. Given the region’s remoteness and challenging landscape, the park’s staff and researchers rely on helicopters and boats for travel and diesel generators for electricity. That has led to a growing pile of fuel drums and other hard-to-dispose-of garbage. Last year, the base camp received its first fills for bulk storage tanks of gasoline, diesel and jet A fuel, but the used drums remained, creating not only an eyesore but the potential to pollute the land and marine ecosystem. ⠀ ⠀ Over the last year, three community members have been hired to help assist with projects in the region, all of whom have extensive experience on the land. Boat of the Month: Khristy Michelle⠀ ⠀ John Williams, of Stonington, Maine, started fishing with his father when he was only 6 years old, and from then on, hes lived a life on the water. I fished an outboard in high school and bought his 34-foot Jonesporter when I graduated. We went groundfishing during the 80s and back lobstering in 1990.⠀ ⠀ Today, Williams lobsters on his 8-year-old Khristy Michelle, which he named after two of his nieces. I had it built at Johns Bay Boat Company, in South Bristol Maine, by Peter Kass and crew (on) Nov. 12, 2012. Most people think wooden boats are more expensive, but they are not. Wood isnt as expensive as resin.⠀ ⠀ Williams is pleased with the way Kass built the Khristy Michelle.⠀ ⠀ Peter designed my boat. This is the second boat he built for me. My last boat was 41 feet. We extended this one to 44 feet to get a better run.
