Drawing their source of inspiration in retrofuturist genre called Synthwave, this seasons Big Brother house in Kalasatama was designed by students from the Masters program in Interior Architecture. Usually, when designing shared housing, the key emphasis is on people’s privacy. However, in this project, it was the opposite. Meet Helen Popinchalk, a LUCAD screenprinting professor and the faculty highlight of the month! Helen completed her undergrad at Simmons in Studio Art and Administration, and her graduate at UMass Dartmouth. She is the cofounder of Trifecta Editions, which works with local artists like Greg Lamarsh and Farel Dalrymple. She also created a show called Go to the Light, featuring a collection of artists whose prints are focused on neon and fluorescent inks lit by black-lights (this will be shown at the Montserrat College of Art in Beverly on October 29, check it out!). According to Helen, its common for people not to realize the work that goes into getting an image onto the paper with screen printing. It is very process oriented, and the finished product doesnt always express that in the same way a painting might. New to Lesley, Helen says her favorite thing about working here is hands down the students, and their genuine enthusiasm for their artwork and for learning the processes. 🚪 PRACTICE ROOM - МЕСТО СИЛЫ 🚪 Когда учишься в Беркли, то между занятиями, репетициями, записями, семинарами и библиотекой все идут... Нет, не спать (об этом мы УЖЕ говорили). Нет, не есть (об этом мы ЕЩЁ поговорим) Правильно. ЗАНИМАТЬСЯ 🎶🎹🎤🎸🎷 А для ежедневной практики в Беркли есть небольшой коридор с кучей малююююсеньких комнаток, где стоят только клавиши (либо акустическое пианино) и скамеечка. Фото в галерее прилагаю. Сами по себе комнатки очень неприглядные, в них узко и душно. Из-за этого ещё больше хочется спать... Но при этом даже боюсь предположить, сколько там было мною написано аранжировок, придумано песен, сделано домашних заданий, отрепетировано партий и, конечно же, выпито кофе ☕️😋 Более того, до Беркли я была на 💯 уверена, что я никакой не сонграйтер и никогда своих песен писать не буду, нет у меня к этому способностей. Однако, свою первую композицию я написала именно в одной из этих самых практис румз. Позже этот трек дал название моему первому ЕР “Keep Yourself For Another Day”, который можно послушать на всех платформах. Вот так бывает: совершенно неприглядное, некрасивое место становится настоящим местом силы. Видимо, в этих комнатах за всё их уже достаточно долгое существование было написано столько прекрасной музыки, что их энергетика работает НА ТЕБЯ и открывает в тебе твои лучшие творческие грани. Three months of a back injury doubled with a recent knee injury has left me quite lost. I have asked why, cried, yelled, and been so depressed I could not think straight. This season is tough. It’s been a mirror. I have been forced to see just how deep my wounded body image was, just how serious my body dysmorphia was, and swallowed the painful reality of an exercise addiction. I looked to my body for an inkling of hope that my life was not a failure. For years I woke up every day to become beautiful, to become worthy, to become desirable. I could not see past my body dysmorphia. I felt a crippling amount of embarrassment and shame for struggling with it. I coped with exercise. It took me away from dance I loved, from people I loved, from me—the one I did not know how to love. These realizations are REAL and PRESENT. Stillness, as hard as it is, is worth it. God, as distant as he feels sometimes, cares deeply. For the first time in my life I am learning to wake up beautiful, wake up worthy, and wake up desired. May we share our stories. Die Erkrankungsfälle steigen in den Industrieländern stetig. Jeder Fünfte leidet an einer Schilddrüsenvergrößerung und jeder Zehnte an einer Schilddrüsenunterfunktion, häufig verursacht durch die Autoimmunerkrankung #hashimoto. Eine falsche und ausgewogene Ernährung, als auch eine gestörte Darmmikrobiota (#leakygut) können die Ursache sein. Ohne die Schilddrüse läuft nichts! Denn die wichtigste Aufgabe ist es, uns Kraft und Vitalität für den Alltag zu geben. Die Hormone der Schilddrüse steigern den Kalorienverbrauch und den Sauerstoffbedarf, bauen Fettgewebe ab und verarbeiten Kohlenhydrate und Eiweiß. Und für die Produktion der wichtigen Hormone sind bestimmte #spurenelemente notwendig. Nicht nur der bekannte Jodmangel, sondern auch eine Unterversorgung mit anderen Spurenelementen kann Studien zufolge eine Schilddrüsenvergrößerung (Kropf) oder Autoimmunerkrankungen begünstigen und die Produktion von Schilddrüsenhormonen beeinträchtigen. First: Vote 🗳 Over the last few months we have been honored to welcome a few of the most inspiring people in politics to @theassemblysf. Hearing directly from @ocasio2018 @kamalaharris @realkimberlye @londonbreed and others has been breathtaking, motivating. None of these people — who, yes, are all women — had a standard “path” to politics. They weren’t born into connections and legacies. They had moments, personal inflection points, and people surrounding them to help lift them. They are people who wanted to throw themselves into an incredibly challenging and demoralizing political climate and system to stand up for what they believe in. They haven’t and won’t win everything they run for, but the fact that they run will continue to change the narrative, inspire more people to run, spark conversations, show us that there isn’t one way a politician looks, talks, and acts. They are making the path and I thank them for that. Sometimes I get asked whether I’m worried about The Assembly being “too political” and my answer remains a no. Do most gyms or work spaces take a stance? No...and yet. Creating a space for women to embrace who they are and how they can help each other is inherently political. Taking care of yourself — body and mind and heart — is imperative to fighting the fights we need to fight. We want to build a place where we aren’t afraid to stand up for ourselves and for what we believe in. I am so grateful for all these women who believe that this country is worth fighting for. I am also so proud that all of these appearances were organized by Assembly members and executed by the best team in the business. Thank you and onward, because in the end that’s the only option. Разбираемся, откуда берется неуемный аппетит и как с ним совладать. ⠀ Вы не высыпаетесь За чувства голода и насыщения в организме отвечают два гормона. Первый – грелин – вырабатывается клетками ЖКТ. Он «сообщает» мозгу о том, что пора поесть. Второй – лептин – синтезируется жировой тканью. Когда его уровень повышается, мозг понимает, что доза питательных веществ получена. Так мы чувствуем, что наелись. ⠀ При недосыпе выработка грелина увеличивается, а лептина, наоборот, снижается. В результате есть хочется чаще и больше. Решить проблему можно только одним способом: наладить режим сна. ⠀ Вы пьете слишком мало воды Ощущения голода и жажды очень похожи, и перепутать одно с другим довольно легко. Многие попадаются в эту ловушку, заглушают жажду бесконечными перекусами и в итоге переедают. В общем, известный совет «Хочешь есть – выпей стакан воды» – не издевательство, а очень здравая рекомендация. ⠀ Вы едите слишком много сладкого Когда мы перекусываем конфетой, печенькой или, например, булкой, весь сахар практически мгновенно поступает в кровь. Уровень глюкозы резко повышается, а потом так же резко падает – и нам снова хочется есть. ⠀ Если голод перетерпеть, организм начнет использовать запасы гликогена из печени, чтобы привести уровень сахара в крови в норму. Но если снова потянуться за печенькой, весь цикл повторится. В долгосрочной перспективе постоянные скачки уровня глюкозы могут привести к инсулинорезистентности и диабету.
