How beautiful is this succulent wonder! Aloes, one of the most well known plant families in the world 🌱. There are over 155 species known from South Africa alone - from small palm sized specimens to towering giants of over 2.5m tall. Loved not only for their beauty in their natural habitats, but also for their popularity as garden plants and their percieved medicinal values. Many are cultivated, but we love seeing and enjoying them in their natural environs... This is a Short-leaved Aloe, one of the Dwarf Aloes, which grows in the most beautiful clumped rosettes. They have short, thick-set leaves, with heavily toothed margins, varying from green to red and purple! The flowerhead is quite large in relation to the size of the plant, and it blooms during early summer. This is the largest variety of its species, of which there are three, and is found growing more inland around Caledon and Botrivier in the Overberg. It was stunning to be reacquainted with these beauties, but sobering to hear that this species is still under threat from wild harvesting for the horticultural trade. Espadín Capón by Alberto Martinez As unlikely as it may seem, it is not that often that Maestro Alberto distills a batch of Espadín, as in the past two decades he and his family have dedicated more of their time and land to cultivating Sierra Negra. At a maximum, Alberto will make two or three batches of Espadín annually. This batch of Espadín Capón is named as such because of the application of the “capón” technique. Right as the agave plant prepares to sprout a “quiote” (flowering stalk), Alberto will cut the quiote at the base. Under normal circumstances, he would harvest the plant at that moment, or even perhaps when the plant was showing a “guia,” meaning the quiote was about to sprout. However, when these Espadines were sprouting their quiotes, rainy season was right around the corner. Rather than harvest the plants immediately and risk a lower yield due to slower fermentation caused by colder weather, Alberto decided to castrate the quiote at the base and let the plants rest for nearly a year. Many mezcaleros believe that when you “capon” an agave and let it sit for at least a few more months, sugars will concentrate and the yield will be higher. In fact, this used to be the more standard practice of harvesting, but increased demand across the category has led nearly all mezcaleros and magueyeros to harvest the plant when it is ready rather than let it sit in the field for an additional yield. 1 + 2: Capon’d 3. #گیاه_آگوا مشخصات: ۱-فرمانرو : گیاهان ۲-راسته : کرفسسانان ۳-تیره : عشقهایان ۴-سرده : پاناکس ۵_رنگ : برگ ها به رنگ سبز، خاکستری ، آبی و در برخی از نمونه ها، دارای حاشیه ای زرد رنگ هستند.خار ها هم به رنگ قهوه ای هستند. توضیحات : #زیستگاه اصلی در بیابان های مکزیک و ایالت های جنوبی و مرکزی ایالات متحده امریکا است. این گیاهان دارای برگ های بزرگ و ضخیم هستند. این گیاهان دارای ۳۰۰ گونه دائمی می باشند. حاشیه ی برخی از انواع آن ها صاف و بدون خار و حاشیهی برخی دیگر دارای خارهای محکم است. اما بیشتر انواع آن ها دارای برگ هایی بزرگ با حاشیه ای خاردار هستند. برگ های خنجری این گیاهان تنوع زیادی دارند، مثلا برخی از آن ها کوچک و نرم و برخی دیگر سفت و تیز هستند که می تواند تا ۲ متر رشد کنند. برگ های آگاو ریشه ای است یعنی به شکل گروهی و مستقیم از #ریشه خارج می شوند. آگاو ها بدون ساقه هستند و زمانی ساقه ای بزرگ درآن تشکیل می شود که گیاه به گلدهی می رود. نحوه نگه داری : ۱_آب : جز گیاهان مقاوم به خشکی محسوب می شوند، بنابراین به آبیاری کمی نیاز خواهند داشت. سطح خاک در بین دو آبیاری کاملا خشک شود . در فصل بهار و #تابستان به هفته ای ۱مرتبه آبیاری و در فصل #زمستان به هر ۲۰ روز یک مرتبه آبیاری نیاز خواهد داشت. ۲_خاک : در انواع خاک ها چون خاک لومی، شنی، رسی، اسیدی، قلیایی، خنثی و حتی ضعیف ترین خاک، می توان کاشت. اما کاشت آن ها در خاک های غنی همراه با کمپوست، بهترین رشد را برای آن ها فراهم می سازد. البته خاک این گیاه باید دارای زهکش خوبی باشد. از ترکیب مساوی ماسه + خاک معمولی باغچه + تورب یا ترکیب مساوی خاکبرگ + ماسه + کمپوست می توان استفاده نمود ۳_نور : این گیاهان جز گیاهان نور دوست محسوب می شوند.البته بعضی از ارقام، در سایه روشن گل دهی می کنند.نور کافی و مستقیم باعث رشد بهتر و شادابی گیاه خواهد شد . @green_life9876 - @green_life9876 on Instagram

It finally feels a bit more like spring in NYC so let’s talk about regrowth + reproduction! 🌺🐥 You probably know that agaves can reproduce sexually (through seed) or asexually (through genetic clones called hijuelos that sprout from near the base of the mother agave), but have you seen a bulbil? This is a 3rd method of reproduction and it’s pretty rare. Because bulbils fall from the top of the flowering quiote they can take root farther away from the mother agave. Last fall Lalo showed us bulbils that he shook down from an espadín quiote, and found some “bien chingones” that had already taken root. His description of the process is as beautiful as the lil baby clones themselves 🌱💛. - @justmaguey on Instagram
