This building was used originally as a coach house to our house a long time ago and I feel very blessed to have this space to be able to do something with. It has the most amazing parquet floor inside. So this is the plan... The Cottage - We are half way through a big extension to the coach house which we plan to turn into a 3 bed holiday let. We are just in the process of getting the roof on but then it’s all the interior that needs to be designed . My favourite part 😁I’m planning on going as white and rustic as possible even though I’m facing lots of backlash from the practicality police! The Brocante - the main body of the original coach house will consist of a little French Brocante. I’ve been buying stuff for years and certainly not short of stock! The Potting Shed - this will be a glass roofed garden room full of twinkly lights and a log burner. I hope to make this into a creative cosy space to run informal crafty gatherings and more tutor led workshops. I’d love to get lots of advice and feedback from all my insta friends in setting this up. Especially when I’m always loosing the majority vote on my choice of paint colours, tiles, flooring etc because it’s ‘not practical’ (I tend not to listen and still do it anyway!) but I’d love a bit of back up from you lovely lot or a realisation check when I do actually have a really bad idea x Tomorrow I’m attending the Yorkinstameet up @yorksinstameet . Near Huntsville, Alabama, our Infrastructure team is working hard to construct two bridges to fix a roadway damaged by a landslide. Our Highway 231 Emergency Bridge Replacement team is building two bridges comprised of seven 135-foot spans, approximately 1,000 feet each. The bridges will be built with enough clearance to allow stormwater to move beneath them without impacting the structure. The heavy February rains washed out the roadway, interrupting traffic for the 13,000 vehicles that travel this stretch of roadway per day. Our self-perform crew has poured 6,000 cu yd of concrete, installed 32 drilled shafts, set 84 girders, and poured 14 bridge decks since mobilizing on site June 1. The largest of Alabama’s road repair projects resulting from February’s flooding, this project is expected to complete in less than six months. - @brasfieldgorrie on Instagram

You wouldn’t think that beneath this pastoral postcard scene there is actually a milk crisis underway. After four days away from Blue Hill Farm, farmer Sean Stanton returned to discover that daily milk yields were down an alarming 20% to 30% per cow from the previous week. Sean immediately walked to the back field where the cows had been grazing (Blue Hill is an all grass dairy). One look and he knew the problem: the pasture had been overgrazed. 3 or 4 days of overgrazing amounts to an expensive mistake. Overgrazing breaks the golden rule of pasture management (and delicious milk): Cows forage first for the tastiest and most nutritious grass in a field. If they don’t get moved to another field quickly, they return to the very same grasses. In other words, they favor the grasses they want and avoid the rest. Returning to the same grasses is an impressive display of taste memory but bad for the grass (which needs time to grow and recover properly) and very not good for the cow. According to Sean, the lack of quality forage triggers a physiological response in a cow. Anticipating a diminished diet in the days ahead, the cow decreases her milk production in order to conserve energy. And once that switch occurs, Sean has seen that cows on an all grass diet may not recover for the rest of the year. In a hail mary effort, Sean took the cows out of their regular rotation and placed them in this field, a stone’s throw from the barn, in the very best triangle of pasture grass. “If we were a dairy that fed our cows grain, I bet their milk levels would reset—a few tubs of corn and they’d bounce right back. But on a grass diet this field is the best shot at reassuring them that their future is rich. If they start to believe that, my hope is that the milk levels return.” - @chefdanbarber on Instagram
