I woke up a few nights on the John Muir Trail + started crying in my sleeping bag ... feeling mixed emotions of relief, excitement + a little bit of fear because of this book. I’ve worked so freaking hard with passion + purpose ... and it’s almost here! For me, writing a book during Covid was an absolute blessing ... while the world was encompassed in pandemics + all of the things that came with it, I chose to write without reservation. What did I have to lose? We are changing + shifting in this world at lightening speed. There’s never been a better time to speak TRUTH without hesitancy, and so I did, sharing things in my book that only my closest friends + family members know about. And then ... (LoL) ... floodgates opened in the middle of the night while sleeping under stars + in calm air on the JMT. “Oh my God, my secrets are no longer my secrets. And my story is no longer only my story.” Opening my phone, I began reading past journal notes while writing my current thoughts. That’s when I came across this: “The lens we use to view others doesn’t have to be through the lens of which they view us.” Yes-WOW. So true! Reading those words was everything. And so I’d like to use this experience to share a gentle, loving reminder with all of you: If someone chooses to view your story or life through a judgmental lens, this does not mean you need to be judgmental of them. How you choose to live your life ... or heal in your life ... or move on in your life should only be a reflection of your needs, wants + desires in life. Instead, someone judging you offers a unique opportunity to practice deeper compassion + empathy for the other person. Which ultimately, I promise, will come full circle and provide compassion + empathy to you, too. ❤️ Always stand in love. You can preorder my book in my handle. And tomorrow ... This is what happens when you struggle with body image and never think you look good enough. When you start pushing yourself during a lockdown to do a “28 Day Exercise Challenge,” because you think you need to lose a few pounds. Somewhere along the line you injure yourself, hurt your foot- your plantar fascia (what IS that anyway??). So you stop the exercise but you ignore the injury and keep going, keep being a mom and a wife and walking the dog two miles a day. The foot never heals (but you SWEAR it will, one of these days- it’s fine, everything is fine). Finally you just can’t take it anymore, so after 6 months of pain you go to the doctor and find that the ligaments in your foot are torn and scar tissue has built up. Now you have a soft cast on and shouldn’t walk at all for a while (how is that even possible as a mom??). And even as you sit here typing this, you feel guilty complaining, and worry that you’re not getting enough exercise, just lying around, off your feet. So my question is, when do we ever accept ourselves as good enough? When do we learn to love the skin we’re in and stop seeing distorted images of ourselves when we look in the mirror? I hope I’ve learned from this. I hope I can accept myself for who I am and realize that I actually injured myself trying to be something “better” and “thinner” than I already was. I hope I can look at my own photos someday and realize I was already good enough, thin enough, pretty enough. It’s been a while since I’ve done an introduction, and there’s some new faces so HI! ✖️Lay off the crunches!✖️ ⠀ 🔺Throughout my experience as a trainer, I’ve learned more and more about the core being more of a stabilizer. ⠀ 🔺In America, we already have too many people in hip flexion for the majority of the day (sitting 8+ hours) and experiencing low back pain. So crunches are not the best solution for “abs”. ⠀ ▪️Performing the correct “Deadbug”▪️ ⠀ 🔹Knees at 90 degrees. (Don’t bring the knees any higher than your hip joint) ⠀ 🔹Neutral spine. (There should be no arching of the spine here, which will want to happen.) ⠀ 🔹Arms vertical ⠀ 🔹Reach opposite limbs at the same time, then alternate. ⠀ 🔺I typically see lack of control in the lower lumber/pelvic region. SCROLL RIGHT down memory lane!! So I posted some of my old “before and after” Macro counting this weekend and my DMs hit the fan. So let me explain. When you weight train for a long time without any regard to diet you honestly can build a crap load of muscle especially in very beginning. Many are so focused on losing fat at start that they often forget this vital step. I was lifting weights, doing zero cardio, & zero diet. I then gave a go at “intuitively eating low carb” and I lost fat because I was in CALORIE DEFICIT for first time, not because I lowered carbs. I got sick of avoiding carbs!!! We own a pizza restaurant...for the love of God that life was not meant for ME!! So of course I was dabbling back into the foods I love...pizza, ice cream, pretzels. I started gaining weight again, but probably not a bad thing because your body always needs a break from dieting. So I looked pretty darn good because I had lost a significant amount of fat and had built muscle, but I just wanted to lose that little fat layer. Enter macro counting and calorie deficit again. Fat layer shed quick...too quick, some muscle too I’m sure. If I had to do over I wouldn’t do as steep of a deficit. I was eating about 1500 calories which was too low for me. Started reversing calories up after like 5wks. I was done. I needed way more food. Still losing weight while reversing because you are still in calorie deficit for a bit till find maintenance. So the muscle you see in the after pics doesn’t come from counting macros, nor did it build in a few short months. It was there all along....remember how I started? It finally just shows up when the fat is gone. So hopefully that clears up some of the questions I got this weekend! La costruzione avviene solo se vi sono dei criteri in base ai quali ci si pone l’obiettivo da raggiungere altrimenti è tutta “monnezza”. There are 2 types of people for when life truly challenges them: . 1. These people crinkle up like a thrown away receipt. They allow the challenges to win. They let excuse override. It’s easy to do, trust me. I’ve been there. . 2. These people use the struggles as fuel of “the only choice I have is to continue to take care of myself to be able to get through these tough times. To be able to take care of those in need. To keep the business running. For my family, myself. LIFE!❤️” whatever it is to you! For me, ALL of the above! . You see, when Nick deployed in January, I had my few days and then said “ok gotta get my shit together to take care of the home front! Put on your big girl 👖 Han” and I did. . March 8th, he got shot overseas and we lost 2 brothers KIA the same day. The moment I opened the door to get notified, something clicked “I MUST stay strong for US. Nick may be across the 🌍 but I have to keep going.” I drown myself around good people, work because it fulfills me, eating well, and fitness (ok, a few dominos orders were placed but I’d say I had a damn good balance spite the challenges!😂) . April 1, he was sent home early. I had no choice but to keep our household afloat, all chores done, dinner made, dogs taken care of, lawn, you get it. For the first 3 months he was home, he couldn’t drive. I took my laptop everywhere we went and worked in the car, doc offices, hospitals, etc. . In July & August, we stood by the families of the brothers we lost that day to lay them to rest, honor them, their families& give our respect. All of us had to stay strong for THEM. 🙏🏽 . Since April, we have been back + forth between Walter Reed for weeks at a time for top medical care. Each time, taking the dogs + making it work. I’m not letting Nick go through this alone. . This month, we sold a dream house we bought just a year ago that we had planned to be in for the next 8-10 years to move into a small townhome for the time being as we figure out our next chapter. (Stay tuned. Its going to be great, right now this middleman part is just odd! Lol) Life changes so quick. “I know what to do and I can do it on my own” WRONG 🙅🏼♀️ If you know what to do than you wouldn’t be stuck in your weight loss journey! 3 years ago I thought I knew what to do as well. I was doing everything working out 6-7 days a week and eating restrictive. I got to a point where I was telling myself my body is just where it’s supposed to be. I’m not meant to have abs or be fit. Which I never was super fit before in my life so I really believed it to be true 🤭 I did Beachbody programs and had a coach and remained stuck. Again telling myself the same story and thinking I can do this on my own and I am doing this on my own, this is just how my body is meant to be. Do you find yourself saying this at all? I bet you do! Fast forward to when I met my “real” coach and I was hesitant to join! Honestly, thinking it was going to be like a beachbody Coach all over again. I was scared! She promised me I would get results and feel better, run faster, be fit, eat more, sleep more, have more “me” time and that list went on! GUESS WHAT⁉️ She was right! I lost weight, got fit, ran not just faster but further as well! I feel better in my own skin and most importantly I love my body and who I am! My everything changed just by saying yes and trusting the process. So, I am hear to say if you think you can do it on your own and have been stuck for more than 3 months than I hate to burst your bubble but you can’t. Adding a 20 month old to the family has really messed up my schedule 😍 I have not been able to get to the gym to lift weights for the past 3 weeks... so I gave up trying to make my schedule work for the gym and decided to go back to running until I can figure this out. Leg days are my favorite but running is just as hard ... which makes me feel accomplished. Day 1 - ONE MILE in 110 degrees took me 12 min 🥵 but that’s okay, give my body a few weeks and I will be back doing 3-5 miles no problem. Our booty scrunch long shorts have been a huge success 🎊 so I decided to make a prototype in the short version. Who likes short shorts??? . #blessedbodywear - @blessedbodywear on Instagram
