The Fall of Umibōzu is the next #stasisproject release from @bottlelogicbrewing in collaboration with @tgbrews. I loved exploring Japanese folklore for this one. Umibōzu is a sea spirit that emerges from the sea to harry sailors, either destroying their ship as it emerges or demanding a barrel which it uses to drown them. The only safe way to escape an umibōzu is to give it a bottomless barrel and sail away while it is confused. This monster is usually described as dark shape with a bald head and two eyes, so we chose to interpret it as a cephalopod. Traveling to the Amazon for the last 5 years has led to a deep dive into the music from the region of Northern Brazil. EVFB are proud to present a first mixtape presenting unheard sounds of Carimbó, Lundun from Marajo Island and Lambada. Sounds that are deeply rooted in the afrobrazilian heritage. Small locally rooted labels like Erla, AMC, Gravasom, Japoti, Amazon Record, Amazon and many more made sure the music reached the local audiences in the 1970s and 1980s. Since the recent surge of Dona Onete as an international artist and the excellent Jambú compilation on Analogue Africa last year, Carimbó has gained more and more attention.
