⠀ #CHConecta #chcsantacasa #PrimaveraDosMuseus #arquivo - @chcsantacasa on Instagram

Found my grandfathers degree certificate recently. He graduated from the Bombay University in the year, 1923. It says that the undersigned, Govind Vishnu Aras from Wilson and St Xaviers Colleges... Wonder why it mentions the names of two colleges? My love for Bombay was initiated by him as I used to accompany him on my school holiday (Thu) to the Petit Library and various Irani cafes and bakeries in Fort and Grant Road! #olddegreecertificate #stxavierscollege #wilsoncollege #allthingsoldandbeautiful #bombayuniversity - @allthingsoldandbeautiful on Instagram

Did you know that some of the earliest stewards of the nation’s national parks were soldiers from segregated black regiments? The national park system came to be after growing concern to preserve the natural landscape, including protecting timber, lakes, wildlife, and the genocidal displacement of native peoples prevailed. However, securing these new parks and vast terrains became a problem. The solution fell to troops stationed at forts and bases located near the parks. In the 1890s, the Buffalo Soldiers, who had fought in the Indian and Spanish American Wars, added park ranger to their titles. and played a critical role in protecting and building the infrastructure of the country’s vast public lands. To provide the much needed security. Approximately 500 Buffalo Soldiers served as Park Rangers at Yosemite, Sequoia and General Grant National Parks, in 1899, 1903 and 1904. Their duties, which were the same as white regiments, included evicting timber thieves, putting out forest fires and building roads and trails. Today we celebrate #blackinnationalparksweek and we commemorate these and other early Park System stewards. #blackinnationalparks #diversity #equity #inclusion #livetheparkslife #history #blackhistory Pictured Below: Buffalo soldiers of the 25th Infantry, some wearing buffalo robes, Ft. Little House on the Prairie is an ever-popular series of children’s books based on the life of one Laura Ingalls Wilder. But who was Mrs. Wilder and what was her life like? And how did she go from being a pioneer to a celebrated author? Born and raised in a pioneer family, Wilder traveled quite a bit throughout her childhood, ever surrounded by nature and her three sisters and parents, whom she loved dearly. She carried these pioneer memories and the experiences she shared with her close-knit family throughout her life, a wealth of stories just waiting to be explored. As an adult, Wilder settled in Mansfield, Missouri, where she finally put pen to paper and began the Little House series. From being an active member in her community of Mansfield to butting heads with her editor of the series (who was also her daughter, Rose Wilder Lane), Wilder undoubtedly led a rich, exciting life, from start to finish. And that isn’t to say of all the tragedies her family faced along the way. Discover the trials that the Wilder family experienced and how the book series came to be. //.Thankful to the Women of nineteenth century.// In the early years of nineteenth century When silk fabrics were found expensive Where corsets were made tight enough To keep a good body posture. The only purpose a women had after a certain age Was to be good and disciplined in three roles, To be a good daughter To be a good wife To be a good mother. The need of permission was necessary In a womens life, either if it was for love, work or marriage. Her tears were like dews on grass Which evaporated easily when there was no one to wipe them off. Her voice was like crow but just silent enough that no one can hear. Sometimes it was hard to even recognize what she is and what she had become. The only work she was allowed to do Was weave the colorful threads into a desired beautiful gown. Or to work in a factory with swollen hands. This way or the other, no women was allowed to enter into the real world. When she can be equal to men in all terms.History is sometimes quite confusing But the entrance women for fighting there rights gave a little pursuit of happiness to them Even if it took years to obtain it. It is told to a girl in her early ages, That she must marry well. Because it is believed that, Marriage is an economy proposition In a womens life. She has to marry a wealthy men, Just to save her family from reaching The stages of poverty. It is all about the capability of women That she is only capable to love. But it isnt true, Women have got beautiful minds Which can make a lot of inventions. Great enthusiasm, powerful beauty As well as essence of ambition Which is meant to be brought in the real world. And this emerged in the nineteenth century, Where women gathered courage enough to keep One foot in the queer yet chaotic world. We are thankful to those ambitioned and courageous women of the nineteenth century. To make a beautiful pathway for all the womens in the future, where she can become something and achieve everything. Thankful to Charlotte Brontë, Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott and many other authors to bring the epitome of love, work and domesticity, and to teach the importance of women. 412-414 (172-174 old numbers) Washington Street. Originally built in 1853 as an Armory, which helped supply troops with guns and ammo throughout the Civil War. ¤ In 1881 and again in 1893 the building was remodeled slightly becoming the new home of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. Celebrations and gatherings of all kinds were held at the Odd Fellows Hall, decorations provided of course by United Decorating ¤ In the 1920’s the Odd Fellows moved to 227 Washington and the Palace Garden began to occupy the space. Much like its predecessor, the Palace Garden was a hall that often hosted cabarets and a variety of other performances. ¤ The building was once again renovated to its current appearance. Information about the “Lining Store” appears to be nonexistent. In the 1940s it was the home of W.T. Grant Department Store. A wooden escalator was installed to transport customers between the two massive store floors. ¤ In the 1970’s 412-414 became Queens Department Store, a local favorite for everything and anything boasting, “Queens Will Treat You Right.” Eventually Blockbuster moved into the space, but sadly closed in 2011. Today it is the home to clothing retailer Anthropolgie. ¤ Trying to follow the lineage of this building has proven difficult, if I left anything out or you would like to add something, I would love to hear you share in the comments below! #HobokenHistory #Hoboken #History #NewJersey #NJ #NJHistory #WashingtonStreet - @hobokenhistory on Instagram

Nashville first became known internationally as Music City not for its country music, but because of the Fisk Jubilee Singers. The Jubilee Singers have headlined halls and auditoriums, performing for queens and kings and heads of state, across the country and around the globe for nearly 150 years. Without musical accompaniment, the a cappella troupe has sung as if the very survivability of Fisk University depended upon them.
