Zebras in motion. I went on one trip to the Mara and my main goal was to take pan-blurs of Zebras. But what I really wanted was the main subject moving one way and other Zebras moving the opposite way in the background. I already knew just the place where this might happen – at one of the river crossings. In the lead up to almost all crossings, the herds will go down to the river. Usually they will drink and mull around before going back up the banks while others are on the way down. This can go on for what seems like an eternity and quite often, a crossing never eventuates. There are always many more Wildebeest than Zebras so the tricky bit is juxtaposing a Zebra against Zebras moving in a reverse direction. All you want is black and white stripes with nothing else to spoil the visual flow of the image. The perfect situation, as in this image, is when the main subject is moving at a slower speed than the others travelling in the opposite direction. 1/13th sec. - @paulconormckenzie on Instagram

En av de vanligaste frågorna är hur jag kan komma så nära. Många gånger befinner jag mig i en jeep, men jag föredrar att ta mina bilder på djurens villkor och närma mig till fots. Eftersom jag utbildat mig I viltvård och arbetat med antitjuvskytte har jag spenderat mycket tid bland vilda djur. Genom dessa erfarenheter har jag lärt mig läsa naturen väl. Jag vet när det är läge att närma mig, eller backa. Det sista jag vill är att på något vis stressa eller provocera djuren. Men om omständigheterna är rätt och de verkar avslappnade, så tar jag steget framåt. En annan fördel som mina erfarenheter i fält gett mig är att jag många gånger kan räkna ut vad som ska hända, innan det händer. Det kan handla om allt från vindriktning och terräng, till att försöka läsa deras behov och beteenden. Zurzeit erobern die beiden Jungtiere noch am Vormittag ihr Reich und lernen vorsichtig ihre WG-Mitbewohner, die Impalas, Thomsongazellen und Elenantilopen, kennen. Übrigens: Von allen (Wild-)Pferdearten ist das Steppenzebra am weitesten verbreitet. Trotzdem wird diese Art von der Weltnaturschutzunion IUCN als „potentiell gefährdet“ eingestuft, da die Bestände immer weiter abnehmen. Ein Problem sind beispielsweise die Weidezäune, die den Tieren bei ihrer Wanderung den Weg versperren oder den Zugang zu Trinkwasser verhindern. في مثل هذا اليوم من السنة الماضية في سيبتمبر ٢٠١٩ . وفقني الله بمشاهدة طفرة جينية نادرة جدا لصغير الحمار الوحشي في ماساي مار- كينيا . تم اكتشافه في ماساي مارا اثناء #هجرة_حيوانات_النو .. وسمي على اسم الشخص الذي اكتشفه (تيرا) وبعد شهرين او ثلاث عبر النهر مع القطيع عائدين الى محمية سيرنجيتي - تنزانيا .. ومنذ تلك اللحظة لم يُشاهد بعدها .. غالبا تم افتراسه من الحيوانات المفترسة او لأسباب اخرى الله اعلم بها.. . رحلة تعتبر من الذكريات الممتعة في حياتي . اسأل الله ان يزيل عن العالم هذا الوباء وان تعود الحياة افضل مما كانت وتتاح لنا الفرصة لزيارة كينيا مرات عديدة ونحن واياكم بصحة وعافية . . كنت بضيافة مخيم تاليك @talek.bush.camp . Zebrastripe - Its always fun to look for patterns, shapes and alternative viewpoints even with our most obvious critters. The initial foreground subject is always easy enough, its finding something that complements or juxtaposes and thats where the fun and eye comes in. This image, a bit like the Oxpecker on the buffalos face a few posts ago (pop back its still there!) came about through waiting patiently (theres that annoying word that wildlifers annoyingly keep spouting, although remember being patient is free and improving your photography for nothing is not a bad deal) for the zebra to walk in front of one of his mates (its a zebra by the way just in case you thought it was me in a onesie) and then reel off a few shots hoping something sticks (nothing to do with blankets!). Now you will note the word hoping, many wildlife bods are want to expose about their skill in these situations but really all you can do is fire away. The skill, if you can call it that is actually the idea in the first place. Free your mind and your camera will follow, now theres a T-shirt slogan. White Lines This photograph - taken a few days ago in Lewa Downs in Kenya - was preconceived, but the execution as many will know is damn tough. Grevys zebra - by far the most aesthetically spoilt of the species - are skittish and do not tend to allow a vehicle too close. After a while, they get fed up and the best chance is always in the first few minutes. A telephoto lens can mitigate the problem, but only so far. The key thing is to have an excellent driver who knows exactly what your intent is and can manage a jeep in the most bumpy of terrains. My driver, guide and friend - Andy Campbell - tried with me for 2 days a month ago and all I got was a sore arse. But we came back, with new ideas and in particular a new lens, a few days ago and we finally got what we were looking for. Zebras are closely comparable to horses and donkeys; in truth, they are in the same genus. (Equus) the most unique evolutionary feature about Zebras is their extraordinary bold patterns on their coats! In addition, each sub species of zebra has different types of stripes, predominantly for camouflage to stay hidden from predators! Although Zebras are in the least concerned category with a large abundant in the wild, we still have to resume maximum population because Biodiversity is not proportional. Biologically speaking, trophic levels can change at any time, for the Zebras as an example, autotrophs and primary producers have to stay functional to maintain the balance of the ecosystem for food development to the Zebras. Sometimes hugging it out is the best way to solve a conflict 🤗 In this #throwbackpost I wanna show you one the most abundant animals in the Ngorongoro Crater - the plains zebras (Equus quagga), to be exact, one of the seven subspecies, the grants zebra (Equus quagga boehmi) The (as I call it) hug that you can see in this picture is actually called grooming, which literally is a way for social animals to strengthen their social bonds 🤗 With zebras this behavior is most often seen by a mother and her foal or by siblings.
