Hi everyone, my name is Prince, I am 21 year old artist based in South east London. I’ve been living in London all my life so it’s definitely a place I would call home. Despite this, my home environment has always been a place of trauma as I became an orphan just under 4years ago. My dad has never been involved in my family life, and my mother passed away of lymphoma cancer in the summer of 2017. I have been able to cope pretty well on my own for almost 4 years now, but living with my older brother who is diagnosed with psychosis, mania,and bipolar has become unbearable. He has a medical team, support workers and family counselling sessions. I have spent years living and caring for him, giving him all the support he needs only to be continuously abused, strangled and hit by him from instigated arguments and squabbles. I have done the best I can to help him, and I will not abandon him, but I need to choose myself for once, by moving out of a home of trauma and giving myself, and him the space needed to grow. COVID has made this situation a lot worse as we were trapped together for months and it isn’t healthy for either of us. I’m hoping that being able to move out and live around a healthy environment of friends and family who do not want to cause me harm will help me stay focused and get my life back on track.
