Hey daar, mijn naam is Lenny! 🐶 Ik ben blij dat ik mijn opgefriste zelf even aan jullie mag voorstellen. 🙏 Mijn baasje is helaas overleden en zijn familie kon niet voor mij zorgen. 😢 Gelukkig hebben zij mij naar DOA gebracht. 💚Toen ik hier binnenkwam zat ik onder de klitten, ik kon niet eens meer lopen! Mijn verzorgers zaten met de handen in het haar. Ze brachten me in slaap en gingen met tondeuses ✂️ aan de slag, heel voorzichtig om mijn huid niet kapot te maken. Een klus van 2 uur ⏰ , mijn oude jas woog wel 700 gram! Ik stond te rillen van de kou 🥶maar gelukkig kreeg ik een lekker warm mandje en wat te eten. Ook heb ik een gezellig hondenvriendje gekregen die mij gezelschap houdt. Ik vind het elke dag een stukje leuker hier. Ik kan alleen niet meer zo goed lopen, dus worden er röntgenfoto’s gemaakt om te kijken wat er aan de hand is. When we received an email from the @nycacc that Oreo needed a hospice home, we knew we had to save him. Unfortunately this 10 year old pup has lymphoma and we felt that he shouldn’t live his final days/weeks/months in a shelter. Within hours we had multiple offers from our foster team to take care of him. Special shout out to @pigpenthepittie for driving him to his fospice mom @stacie_woodland28 Once he was saved we were able to get a second opinion on his health. They confirmed he has lymphoma and suggested palliative care. Oreo will live his remaining life in NYC being surrounded by love. In the meantime we created a bucket list for him which includes visiting Manchu Picchu, swim the Great Barrier Reef, and eating the contents of an entire steakhouse! YOU HAVE GOT TO READ THIS!   I receive many adoption appeals every single day in my DMs and story mentions. All desperate pleas from fellow rescuers. I try my best to share as many as I can, unsure if my efforts even count. If a home is even found or these dogs continue languishing. I’m too afraid to ask their respective rescuers, “What happened to that dog?”, unsure if the answer I receive will sate my already unsteady heart. Overtime, I’ve come to a conclusion that some things are best left in the dark. Shades’ was one of the adoption appeals that I received several moons ago. She was rescued off the streets in time by my friend and fellow rescuer, Akanksha @philanthropistandthehappydog . She was a timid little dog, always found curled beside her brother, next to an unforgiving highway. One morning, her brother, disappeared and never returned. It is unclear what happened to him, if he got picked up by someone or died in a car crash. We just know that our Shades silently, resigned to a life on the streets. Akanksha couldn’t bear to lose another one to this wretched world, so she just brought her home. Shades was flushed with infection and debilitated at the time of rescue. I posted her story to my page thinking if it will even help and will someone take notice? Unknowing that a lot had to conspire by the universe for us to be in that moment. The story was seen by thousands, including @ritikarnad, who has been our generous donor for a very long time. Riti couldn’t just swipe past it & knew Shades belonged with her. She inboxed me instantly & stood beside us even during turbulent covid times. Picture me jumping with joy as I tell you this that in less than 5 days, Shades will finally be with her mom in New York. All of her expenses from the customs fee to airline charges to her medical bills, have been covered by Riti graciously. She was quite adamant that we save our resources & use it to rescue and help more dogs in need. Akanksha and I consider ourselves grateful and fortunate that we found someone like Riti for our Shades. NIKO UPDATE💜 As you can see, Niko basically has his own suite with our vet which we are so thankful that they took him in on such short notice. The wire bolts and stones have been removed from his stomach, he is receiving iv fluids, got a full blood panel, fecal test done, and some more x rays. He has been getting lots of food, eating all of it with no vomiting or diarrhea. He also managed to eat through 3 of his catheters and his metal bowls which explains more of how he ended up with all that stuff in his belly😬 But hey, Im pretty sure if i was starved like he was a wire bolt and a rock would taste like a freakin cheeseburger🤷🏼‍♀️ * He does have hip dysplasia which is not uncommon for a big dog his age and the severity of it lines up with the level of neglect he’s experienced throughout the 7 years of his life. These are real DMT dogs that were rescued by the most amazing and courageous organizations, who rehabilitated these dogs and gave them a second chance at life and love. Meet Benjamin aka Benji @catdogz6. This poor guy was so badly beaten and tortured in ways we could even imagine. He saw his friends being bludgeoned to death and blowtorched in front of his eyes. Luckily he was saved by @animalhopeandwellness. After almost a year of rehab he was able to be adopted out. Benji suffers from very bad PTSD but has found his new home filled with so much love with new brothers and sisters. Thank you for not giving up and being a hero. HAPPY 2nd FIRST BIRTHDAY JOY! Today I opened a WhatsApp message from Sandeep from @tailclub.in which read someones cake is here!. And at that moment I wept and smiled at the same time. I was looking at the face of a boy who was smiling his biggest smile and looking at his birthday cake! My Joy, who was without a caregiver, who had only known the hardship that the street life offered to such a tender soul, was celebrating his 2nd FIRST birthday! At that moment my little foundling, my little street survivor, looked so handsome, so beautiful and so radiant. I saw the face of a dog who knew that he is loved. I cannot express the gratitude I have for Sandeep, in words. I secretly believe that it is fate that brought the two of them together; otherwise how does an injured pup from Kolkata end up with the most special foster parent all the way in Delhi? I am very possessive about MY dogs, but I am glad that Joy is more Sandeeps than anyone elses. He has been taking him to the vet every alternate day, he has been taking care of all his needs and whims and he gave a birthday to a child who didnt know before what it meant to celebrate himself and just be loved. Update on our pregnant girl we received yesterday. It was shocking to find out that she just ate a bunch of rocks, causing pain, labored breathing, and a very distended abdomen, which mimicked pregnancy and labor! She has a bunch of other things going on with her that we are still looking into, in terms of her overall health. But she was so filthy, so flea infested, and her dew claw had grown into her paw, so she was oozing pus and blood. Luckily, Doc believes she will pass these rocks in her stool, so we are just waiting on them to pass. In the meantime, she is resting comfortably with her fosters, The Radnotis. These 2 little cutie pies were reported to us when they were very tiny. The female had lost her eye, and now has a missing eyeball. Both of them were suffering from a skin condition known as mange. We took them in and started their treatment. We later moved them to a foster home. We couldnt return them back to where we had found them as they were still too small and still suffering from the skin condition. Their complete recovery would take about a month or so. After which, most probably they would go up for adoption. We would like to thank the reporter for reporting the case and bringing them to us. Kobe tenía una familia que no se preocupaba demasiado por él, la mayor parte del tiempo la pasaba solo en la calle con los riesgos que ello supone. Finalmente lo capturaron y llevarón a la perrera de Baza donde transcurridos los 21 días desde su entrada los animales son sacrificados. Consiguieron localizar a su familia pero dado que debían abonar los gastos del chip ( no llevaba) tomaron la cruel decisión de renunciar a él y dejarlo en un lugar donde sabían que terminarían con su vida. El 28.01.2020 contactaron con nosotros de forma desesperada porque su fecha de sacrificio estaba fijada para el día 29.01.2020, por suerte pudimos salvarlo en el último momento y evitar tan trágico final. Those who have a voice must speak for those who are voiceless- Saint Oscar Romero As the COVID-19 pandemic continues in the city, I bring to you a true story that perhaps may warm the cockles of your heart. And so it came to be one day that my husband and I decided to pick up kirana as we usually do on a Saturday. We went down to the parking lot to get our car and Sir Don [see earlier posts] promptly followed us got into the back seat. No amount of cajoling and telling him that there was lockdown and that there was a virus troubling the city and that he needed to let us go by ourselves helped. He just stayed put in the back seat and looked at us with puppy eyes. We knew that car rides scared him beyond five minutes and didn’t know what to do. I then hit upon a plan. We drove in the lane behind our home and stopped after a few buildings and I got off. I opened the back door and Sir Don got off too. I quickly reentered the car and we drove off knowing well that the street smart Sir Don would find his way back home and wait for us. This was his hunting ground. In addition, he had also met Lizzie his girlfriend where we dropped him and they were chatting as we drove off. We were however least prepared for what happened next! A scream resonated through air followed by the choicest Bawa abuses that I had heard in a long time. An old man came chasing our car with a stick and abused us for abandoning a dog in the midst of a pandemic! He told us [what gaalis!] that we were dishonorable and callous and would rot in hell. Hi everyone, The day after our last post we had to take Abby to the hospital because she was not eating, drinking, had zero energy and her senses were all out of whack. They found nothing wrong with her except a low grade fever and they gave her an antibiotic just in case she was getting an infection. We also took her to see her vet a few days later and she found her to be doing very well considering how rough of a time she was having. She told us that it was all part of the remodeling process and that we just had to be patient and give it time. ———————————————————————-—She was absolutely right! We started to see her getting better and better each day and after going through that funk for a little over two weeks she is all better now! We even think she has the same if not more energy than when she was a few months old. It was a scary time seeing Abby so out of it but we are thankful to see her so happy and energetic again. ———————————————————————-— We also wanted to share some good news we received earlier this week. When all of this first happened with Abby we applied for a grant with the @livelikeroofoundation . They help families whose dogs have cancer with financial assistance. After a few months of providing them all of the necessary documents they needed, they awarded Abby the grant! We were so happy to learn this news and it definitely helped us get closer to our goal. If you know anyone whose dog has cancer, please tell them to contact the Live Like Roo Foundation to see if they can help. And if you go to their Facebook and Instagram page you will see Abby on there! ———————————————————————-— Even though we didn’t reach our goal, all of you and Live Like Roo helped us out tremendously and we are so grateful for everyone who came together to help Abby. At the time we were only reasonably crazy and decided we would adopt dog number 6 as part of our trip. Our goal was to adopt a senior dog from a kill shelter that was otherwise likely to be euthanized. We searched the lists for various shelters and found a posting for a 17-year-old black chihuahua. Initially rejected, they eventually allowed us to adopt the dog we immediately renamed to Daphne. With big smiles and a dog that snuggled immediately into our arms, we drove back to our Air BnB - only to realize the 17-year-old dog we had just adopted had just gone into heat on Angelas shirt. Daphne slept with us immediately, preferring, for once, to stay beside me rather than Angela. She flew without any difficulty and fit into our house like she had always belonged. We found out pretty quickly she was not the 17-year-old pooch that had been advertised and was a much younger 11. Daphne was an amazing part of our lives. She surprised us with her ability to clap and delighted us with the way she pranced when she walked. Everyone who met her loved her. Unfortunately, that delicate girl developed renal failure a few months ago. Last night she seemed to get significantly worse and we knew that come Monday we would be forced to make a choice we had been avoiding - keeping her with us was now at the point where it was clearly for us, not for her. Today we insisted on spending as much time with her as possible.  While its probably an anthropomorphism, she seemed to sense the difficult choice we were being faced and, as if to save us from having to make such a final decision, she fell asleep eternally in her moms lap.  Neither of us can stop crying despite knowing that we were going to lose her. We would not take back those three years for anything. 💕 Tuesday Tails 🐶 • Feat: Jasmine • Story from her furmom Theresa: “This is Jasmine. DOB 18 January 2018. Jasmine and 5 littermates were brought into the shelter in St. Lucia, with their eyes not yet open, so they knew they were less then 2 weeks old. The mother dog was dead. The volunteers told them all home to nurse them along. Only two survived, Jasmine and a “blonde” sibling. The other pups sadly died of what staff believed to be “parvo”. Jasmine was adopted out to a local family in St. Lucia, in March of 2018 but was sadly returned in November after the family got another dog and said that Jasmine wasn’t getting along with the other dog. She was thin and very lethargic. She never had problems before or after the adoption with other dogs. She remained in the shelter for a full year, until one day I saw her picture on line, on Kijiji and because she resembled our Mexican rescue dog who had died only months earlier, we felt we had to have her. Although we were leaving for our winter away in Texas, the Bruno Project did everything they needed to do to make sure we were a suitable home for Jasmine and we picked her up in Toronto, not knowing if she was a good traveller or not. Well, literally 5 days of car travel later she arrived in Texas with us, had a big “stretch” and looked at us as if to say “This is great....bring it on!” And so without missing a beat, she has become the heart and soul of our home, sharing us with our other Mexican rescue dog, Tamale. “Jazz” is loving, very affectionate, smart, fun and most of all very appreciative. We can’t imagine life without her. We are so grateful for everything the Bruno Project did for her, saving her for us. He also appears to have a skin infection of some sort. If you recognize this dog, please contact us with proof of ownership. 💥Lucky update💥⁣ Lucky was found on the road to Managua by a very wonderful woman more than a month ago. Lucky had two open fractures of both forelimbs, one in the femur and one in the pelvis (👉swipe to see him before WARNING graphic 📷❗️) . The worst fracture was that of his left hand, which was already heavily infected. We’re thrilled to report, after two very complicated orthopedic surgeries, a lot of love 💙 and a lot of medication, he is finally able to walk. 🙌🏽 At first Dr. Tapia considered euthanasia because his pain was unbearable and the bone infection was very strong. Another option was to amputate the most infected part, however we continued with strong antibiotics ... his pain is gone and now he is beginning to take his first steps (see 🎥). He will now need postsurgical physical therapy. Now he is happy 😍, eats well 🥘 and he even smiles 😁. Thank you to those who contributed to Lucky’s care! ⁣ ⁣ Lucky is still at the animal clinic of @aprovetnicaragua located in Granada, Nicaragua but will be headed to our partners shelter @rescatandohuellasnicaragua shortly!⁣ ———————⁣ 💥Noticas de Lucky💥⁣ Lucky fue encontrado en el camino a Managua por una mujer maravillosa hace más de un mes. Lucky tenía dos fracturas abiertas de ambas extremidades anteriores, una en el fémur y otra en la pelvis (👉 desliza para verlo antes ADVERTENCIA es gráfico❗️). La peor fractura fue la de su mano izquierda, que ya estaba muy infectada. Estamos encantados de informar que, después de dos cirugías ortopédicas muy complicadas, mucho amor y mucha medicación, finalmente puede caminar. 🙌🏽 Al principio, el Dr. Tapia consideró la eutanasia porque su dolor era insoportable y la infección ósea era muy fuerte. Otra opción fue amputar la parte más infectada, sin embargo seguimos con antibióticos fuertes ... su dolor se ha ido y ahora comienza a dar sus primeros pasos (ver 🎥). Essa é a Nina eu a resgatei à 2 meses praticamente, no primeiro mês que ela chegou estava muito debilitada e doente, eu consegui arcar com algumas dispesas depois tive que pedir ajuda a vocês pois a diária da internação foi R$500 reais, bolsa de sangue R$800 reais por aí foi, fora os exames complementares R$300, R$200 vocês me ajudaram. Entretanto agora ela encontra-se em uma clínica onde não precisa pagar internação, não precisa pagar os remédios mais ela precisa fazer uma ressonância magnética urgente no valor de R$1.500 reais. Her silky soft ears, shiny black bottom lip and gentle nature drew me to her. I think it took about five minutes before I started to think uh oh, I like this one. Shes missing a back leg but it doesnt hold her back. It took a little time, but she mastered the stairs. She swims! Sweet little Mae is now available for adoption! She is a small terrier mix, and is 9 weeks old. We expect her to stay around 25 lbs when full grown. But have no idea what breed she is so we can’t be sure. She is 5 lbs as of today. She is the spunkiest little pup! Not scared of anything! She is very independent and loves cuddles when she’s tired, but is go go go and playing when awake and energized. She loves other dogs and obviously isn’t scared of any size, doesn’t mind cats (just wants to play). She loves the car, has already taken 2 11 hour car rides, and slept and did great both times! She is working on pad training, and is trying to learn. She has had her first 2 rounds of shots, and microchip. Her adoption fee is $250 and includes one more puppy shot, rabies shot, and spay as age appropriate. Warning Graphic Images Everyone, meet our newest rescue, Valente(means brave). Valente was found by our friend @isadoramateuss and we had him transported to the hospital. We don’t know much about him yet, except for the fact he’s in pretty poor shape. Tests have been taken and sent out; we are waiting on the results and will know more soon. He’s a pretty scared pup and only trusts one of the hospital staff. We lost her. Sweet Broom arrested while in the ER today and the vets tried chest compressions and all life saving measures but nothing was bringing her back to us. We know she was tiny and we know the odds weren’t good, but we still can’t believe it. The outpouring of love and support flooding into our inbox for this little dog has been truly unreal and while we know we did every possible thing to save her, we can’t help but feel like we let her, and you, down. She was just so special and you all felt it, too. Broom, we are so sorry. We got to you too late and it’ll never be fair or ok.
