I was thinking today of how we often talk of our ancestors - honoring them and keeping them close & I think those practices are crucial but I also think of those of us who don’t have access to our ancestors and to know if their actions were worth honoring & it brought me to the reality that before we are ancestors we are children and often times we ignore the autonomy and haven’t been given the tools to know how to truly parent to the best of our child’s well being both physically and so importantly emotionally - our parents - us - we don’t always have the tools to know and to practice how to truly honor children and their humanity. I wanted to create a piece that spoke to folks who have queer and trans children in their lives - remind you that cishetero normativity is the example most show and it is our duty to honor the identities of our babies so they may grow into a world that cherishes them for being who they are.
