📖 Kultur an der Regioun: 🎻 An dësem Post kucke mir eis den Nikolaus Hein (1889-1969) vun Éinen e bëssche méi genau un. Säi wuel bekannste Wierk ass d’Erzielung „Der Verräter“ déi d’revolutionär Ëmbréch vun 1831 beschreift. Den Hein huet probéiert déi politesch a sozial Prozesser un Hand vun enger Persoun an engem klengen Duerf ze weisen. 1947 ass d’Geschicht mam Lëtzebuerger Prix de littérature ausgezeechent ginn. Fir d‘150. järeg Onofhängegkeet vu Lëtzebuerg 1989 ass se vum Marc Olinger ënnert dem Titel „De falschen Hond“ verfilmt ginn. A senge Gedichter huet den Nikolaus Hein ëmmer erëm déi idylesch Musellandschaft a säi Respekt fir d’Natur gewisen. Duerch seng Verbonnenheet mat der Musel huet hien sech och fir d’Beruffer vum Wënzer a vum Fëscher staark interesséiert. 📖 Culture in the region: 🎻 In this post we will take a closer look at Nikolaus Hein (1889-1969) from Ehnen. His most famous work is the tale „Der Verräter“, which describes the revolutionary upheaval of 1831. Hein tried to show the political and social processes illustrated by one person living in a small village. In 1947 the story was awarded the Luxembourgish Prix de littérature. In 1989, for the 150th anniversary of the Independence of Luxembourg, it was turned into a film entitled „De falschen Hond“ by Marc Olinger. In his poems Nikolaus Hein showed the idyllic Moselle region as well as his respect for nature. Due to his close relationship with the Moselle he also had a keen interest for the professions of the winemaker and the fisher. Peggy Lee (1920-2002). She was a singer, songwriter, actress, and composer. She’s probably most well known for “Fever,” though I’m more partial to her version of “Why Don’t You Do Right?” She voiced several characters in Disney’s Lady and the Tramp, including the sultry “Peg” singing “He’s a Tramp.” She performed with many top acts including: Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, and Jimmy Durante. She starred with Danny Thomas in The Jazz Singer and had several other movie and TV roles. Her ashes are buried by her bench monument. Photo No. 1 by Katherine Jones :: A Boise monument has become a memorial for Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the wake of the Supreme Court justices recent death. With a briefing by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was then a law professor, Idahoan Sally Reed took a landmark case to the U.S. Supreme Court, which decided that Idaho Code’s preference in favor of males was arbitrary and unconstitutional. The monument to Reed is at the corner of Vista Avenue and Dorian Street, where she lived. Torontos Past Preserved: No better way to end this look at Wellesley St than a visit to the Paul Kane house at 56 Wellesley. The house that Torontonians saved. Built in 1853, it was home to Paul Kane a well know Toronto based, Canadian travelling artist. He built this cottage in his later years as he settled down while having a studio on King St. The house was owned by the family until 1903. It became a church hall for those who were hearing impaired. from 1925-73. The church built a large building in front of the house, effectively blocking it and well was hidden away for so long. When a developer bought the lot, they tore down the church building and discovered the Kane House. With neighbors who wanted the poor condition house demolished, Toronto preservation groups fought back and won !!! The city bough the property with help from the province. A park was built and the house was renovated. The house was included in o a new housing co-op in 1985.
