I realized I’ve never really talked about my instrument here! . . My 1969 Selmer was a gift from an incredible gentleman named Richard. When I was desperately in need of a good saxophone, I visited a man in Detroit who had several mark vi’s in his basement. I was hoping he’d sell me one for a reduced price in exchange for helping him sell the rest of them. “Just play a couple,” he told me, so I did. After playing 8 or 9 of them, he looked at me and asked “so which one do you like?” I pointed to one in the corner and said “I really dig that one!” He then looked at the horn, looked back at me, and said “it’s yours.” . . . Richard and I exchanged letters from that day until he passed. This saxophone is the mastermind behind most all of my music, and is a central part of my new EP “DiE.” I’m really excited to share this music with you all, and I hope you get a chance to listen to “DiE,” which drops October 1st on bandcamp. - @eddiecodrington on Instagram

Its Meet the Musician Monday! Today, meet Chris Hart, RSNO Principal Trumpet. Originally from Nottinghamshire, Chris joined the RSNO in 2016. Here he chats to us about his favourite moments in the RSNO and his love of Stevie Wonder, AC/DC and Mahler. What do you enjoy most about being in the RSNO? The chance to play lots of fantastic repertoire, and living in Scotland. What is your favourite RSNO memory? Performing Mahler’s Fifth Symphony with my parents in the audience was pretty special. What do you enjoy doing when youre not playing with the Orchestra? Swimming, cycling and photography. Do you have any hidden talents? No... I’m a one-trick pony I’m afraid! Youre stranded on a desert island. Youre allowed 3 CDs and 1 book. What would they be, and why? Steve Wonder’s Original Musiquariam - his music is flawlessly produced and a lot of it is very poignant; AC/DC Back in Black - it’s just awesome; if I’m allowed a compendium then I would go for Gergiev’s Mahler cycle with the LSO, the Mahler symphonies 5 and 6 have the most fantastic trumpet playing on them, and I’d have to have one bit of trumpet geekery to sustain me! I meant to post this a couple of days ago. Over five years ago, I heard about an audition in SoCal for a new version of the Disneyland Band. It was happenstance that I came upon this audition and it seemed unlikely that I would get anything out it; but I came down on a cheap bus ticket, did the audition, felt good about it and headed back home up to SF. I was, at the time, barely making any sort of living. I was playing under paying gigs every weekend, working odd jobs and barely scraping by. I felt that I wasn’t getting the kind of success that I wanted, and I thought that I wasn’t welcome or respected amongst the freelance music community (by the way, that’s not to say that was the reality of my situation, only that I certainly felt that way). For as much as I loved SF, I didn’t feel the love back. Then I got a phone call that changed my life. In June of 2015, I moved down to Anaheim to begin the arduous rehearsal process that lasted up until mid-July. On Sunday, July 19th 2015 I performed for the first time with the Disneyland Band and had been up until everything closed down because of the pandemic. Ever since I was hired by Disney, my life, my career and my musicality has gotten better. I have been given many great opportunities, I have been placed in a great community with people I respect and love, both inside and outside the park. Disney challenged me and continues to challenge me. I’m truly fortunate to be a part of it and I can’t wait to get back. Thanks for giving me a shot. Happy 65th Birthday, Disneyland.
