It’s funny to me how many people will leave you life on your own path to success, I’m not particularly speaking of succeeding in your career ; more like, succeeding in finding what makes you happy; cause actually that’s what a lot of people don’t know even for themselves , and let me tell you this: if people can’t do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t. But here s my advice; if you want something; go get it! It doesn’t matter how funny or ridiculous it might sound to other people. A lot of people don’t even know - that I had no support from my family - when I decided to chase my dream - to become the best beauty photographer on the world. I do get, that It might’ve sounded crazy to everyone around me , cause I literally had no relation to photography except a few nice selfies. But I had a dream. And no matter how many people told me to let go of that dream, I was holding on to it. Even, when nobody liked what I was doing, even when I was in debt, even when I doubted myself. And that’s how you will succeed not only in your career, but in life. It’s not about where you come from , because I didn’t come from a wealthy, supporting family myself. It’s really all about what you make out of your situation. There is always an option, there is always a way. And eventually your hard work will pay off at some point. Just look at my picture. Lennart Larsson of Vråka, Sweden, discovered a 2 meter (6’5”) tall stone when ploughing his field a few years ago. Little aware of that it was a Viking Age runestone, he decided to keep it for later needs. It wasn’t until he cleaned it and was about to put it to use as a steppingstone that that he discovered that the stone was covered with runes. . Lennart immediately contacted the local museum and archeologists, who were amazed to hear about the find. Even though Sweden has thousands of runestones, it is rare to discover new ones. The location of the find wasn’t surprising though. They previously found a huge silver treasure on the very same property. Other silver treasure finds have also been made in the region, indicating that a road went through there. Runestones were often placed along roads where they could be seen by all passing by. Runologist Magnus Källström at the Rune department of the Swedish National Heritage Board has examined the stone. He considers it a sensational find isince it was years ago a previously unknown runestone was found in Sweden. A traditional runic beast biting his own tail encircles the stone. The shape of the beast’s head points at the stone originating from the early 1000s. This is interesting since the silver treasure found on the property had coins minted in 1020, which could indicate that the stone was risen by the same family who buried the treasure. Magnus Källström translated the runes to: “Gärder raised this stone after Sigdjärv his father, Ögärd’s husband.” The female name Ögärd is interesting, since the composition has not been encountered previously. The runestone will now be cleaned and undergo preserving treatment, after which it will be risen anew near the site where it was discovered. Today is my Alive Day. I was born on the 8th of May. My favorite number growing up was 8. Today, 8 years ago, on the 8th day of the 8th month, the lives of so many dramatically changed in 8 seconds. Over the years, I’ve heard different sayings; Everything happens for a reason. There is a lesson in every experience. Don’t live in the past. Life is full of obstacles; they will teach you how to become stronger. So, I’ll tell you what I learned. 8 years later, I still feel guilty to be here while CSM Griffin, MAJ Gray, MAJ Kennedy, and USAID Abdelfattah are not. I still randomly replay the scenario in my head and try to figure out a better outcome. I am uncomfortable being recognized as a Medal of Honor Recipient. I don’t like it at all. I feel like I need to conquer the world and be the best individual possible so that the families of the men killed can justify my being here while their loved ones are not. I wonder where I would be today if we had scratched that mission due to weather. Or, if we would have left 15 minutes prior. I think about the what if... then I stop. I take a step back; I appreciate my reality. Life is not always fair, its tough and challenging, and it’s not perfect. But, over the past 8 years, I have learned to appreciate the good moments. Today, I want to say thank you to Pam, Kami, Heather, Dane, Kylie, Nyah, Ava, Garrett, Brody, Maggie, Brink, Secor, Balderrama, Mahoney, Ochart, the Boss MG Mingus, and Amy. I love you all. Yes, that’s me, Clare Butcher - one of the curators for TBA Public Programming and Learning, looking pretty hangry, about to dig into a cake that our team and a number of guest contributors and participants would, in moments, partake of as we closed the last day of the inaugural biennial. A snow storm is raging outside. My first ever in Toronto, having arrived in the softness of spring only a few months before. Though I didn’t make this cake, it stands for me as an important reminder of many aspects of what it means to learn, collaborate, celebrate together. It is also a cake, but bear with me. The material ingredients and muscle memories, the personal and historical dimensions, as well as the complex layers of context that make up the the “what” and “how” of gathering and learning also need time for digestion. And now months, and some would say worlds, away from that stormy day, it’s even clearer how critical slow cooked, intergenerational and generous ways of being in relationship are. Over the coming days, I hope to share with you some notes from the kitchen conversations, critical tools and recalcitrant recipes that are asking me to consider the shapes and scales which embodied knowledge and care can take. Im delighted to donate the funds raised by families in Marin who participated in my Front Porch Portrait Program to the Marin Foster Care Association @marinfostercare. About 8 weeks ago, in the depths of COVID SIP, I read about photographers around the world donating their time and talent to raise money for COVID affected charities. I decided this was exactly what I needed to do to contribute. Every weekend I photographed 5-6 families meeting new friends and reconnecting with old. There were lots of laughs and a whole lot of tears but it truly saved me in such secluded times. This project was very successful for me and has given me the inspiration to start a new project to help fund paths to fight for anti-racism in our country. Stay tuned. I’ve been going back and forth all day if I should share or not. With each passing year maintaining this lifestyle seems to not be as hard as it once was. That is until this past year... 2019-2020 has honestly thrown me( like many others) for a wild ride. I certainly didn’t expect to quit my job last year to start a new venture, open my shop, less than 2 weeks later become a single mom, flash forward 5 months later to the Covid Pandemic, unable to work , and subsequently come super close to losing my business among many other changes. This was the closest I have been to drinking again, I basically battled myself every day and I was terrified. It felt like the beginning all over again and some days I truly didn’t even see the point of staying sober. Yet here we are, another September 1st. I didn’t think I’d make it here, let alone being able to say I’m 9 YEARS sober. Thank you to everyone who reached out, thank you to those who I reached out to in the Sober and clean community who truly helped me stay focused and on track. My gym community y’all have been amazing and most of you don’t even know our simple conversations during workouts is one of the things I look forward to the most! I shared my transformation on my story & many of you commented you had always assumed I had a “fit or healthy” journey. So I thought I’d do a little back story🥰 I once counted calories. Everything was either good or bad for you. I now see food as fuel. Food fuels my body. I once punished myself with exercise. I now see exercise as a celebration. It’s a privilege & blessing to be able to move my body. I once thought that lifting heavy weights would make me manly or bulky, I now know better. I once thought carbs & fat would make me fat & in order to lose weight or see results I had to eat under 1000 calories of “clean foods.” Carbs & fat make up the bulk of my diet now. . I battled eating & workout disorders. Gymnastics & diet culture ran deep & it took years to overcome but I overcame those demons & they no longer hold a grip over my life. I had a hard loss at making history my senior year of highschool w. severe ankle injuries while competing on a broken ankle. I lost by .025. I then had a career ending injury my sophomore year of college. The video is of me getting back up 7 years later & doing the very skill that ended my career & caused so much turmoil in my life. This is part of where the name @twenty2nutrition comes from 😉 I endured sexual abuse...I’m no longer a victim.🙌🏽 . I wanted quick fixes & to change everything about my body. I now know that quick fixes don’t exist. Change takes time & I have loved my body more than ever over the last 4 years of my life NOT because of how I look but my my outlook on myself, my body & mindset. I survived a car accident that should have killed me. That was my wake up call. That moment of almost losing my life showed me I had a choice. I could choose to continue walking around miserable holding onto the past, the things that weren’t going right & always focusing on the negatives OR I could focus on the blessings right in-front of me & choose to be thankful in that moment for what I was blessed with. Change takes time. It’s a process, a journey, & a lifestyle. Your life is not a race, so stop shooting for a finish line. Edit: It’s NOT my Birthday, it’s a decade reflection 2009: This was my first day on set as an intern on The Kardashians (Kourtney & Khloe take Miami). I was 18 years old, not even a year out of high school and trying to figure out how I got so lucky. I had no idea that internship would be the beginning of a 10+ year career or the reason I’d drop out of college lol. Truthfully, I‘d gotten good at smiling on the outside while the inside was an unhappy, unsure, undeniable wreck... but I fought HARD and worked HARDER without sacrificing my integrity, losing my mind, or kissing anybody’s ass. . . 2019: “Can’t believe we made it” - Beyoncé. At 29 I launched my own Production company, Crystal Clear Content, and got fired from a show for the first time. Talk about highs and lows! This photo was taken the day after wrapping one of the most intense/important series I’ve worked on; it required me to use every single thing I’ve learned over the last 10 years to get through it. And boyyyy did I go through it... I was expecting to produce others through a therapeutic experience, but instead I realized how much I needed therapy myself. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I want to make sure I’m going into my 30’s ($#!&) without all of the trauma, unhealthy thoughts, and anxiety I’ve carried throughout my life so there’s more to glow/grow. Let me start my day by telling you how amazing God is. Today marks the 7th year to the day, of this picture on the left. I spent all of last night remembering what it felt like to be in this moment. In this picture, I was just coming out of my second major surgery in a year. I had stage 3 Endometrial Cancer and I’d just found out, that I had stage 1 Colon Cancer. This particular surgery was to remove 30% of my colon. Even during that, I wasn’t afraid. I always felt God with me, and I heard him tell me not to worry, bc I would be fine and to trust him. So that, my family, and some close friends, are what got me through. I wouldn’t be this person on the right without acknowledging that today. So, no matter what your day looks like, just know that you WILL get through it. 🇬🇧 Exactly 2,5 years ago, lion Ivan-Asen 🦁 arrived at our FELIDA Big Cat Centre. Thanks to your help we were able to rescue him from a dark cage at Razgrad Zoo in Bulgaria, a zoo that also functioned as an illegal breeding station for lions. Even though Ivan will need intensive and specialized (medical) care for the rest of his life, we are proud of all the developments he went through. You all probably remember the first picture of him... but how beautiful he has become! ♥️ — 🇳🇱 Leeuw Ivan-Asen kwam precies 2,5 jaar geleden aan in ons FELIDA Big Cat Centre. Dankzij jouw hulp konden we hem redden uit een donkere kooi in Razgrad Zoo in Bulgarije, een dierentuin die tevens diende als illegaal fokstation voor leeuwen. Hoewel Ivan de rest van zijn leven intensieve en gespecialiseerde (medische) zorg nodig heeft, zijn we trots op alle ontwikkelingen die hij heeft doorgemaakt. 8 years ago yesterday I had my first weight loss surgery. That started my long journey to lose 170lbs. It wasn’t easy, my journey was far from perfect and it wasn’t anything like I expected. In 8 years I’ve lost 170lbs. I had two weight loss surgeries and I went down 9 dress sizes. I also had a pregnancy after weight loss surgery and breastfed for 15 months. I couldn’t be more thankful for everyone who’s always encouraged my journey and those who were skeptics. 28 years ago today, we opened Fat Head’s. It seems like yesterday, but also feels like a lifetime. Over the years we have met so many people, created many friendships, watched families get started and grow, and even had to say goodbye to some dear friends. ⠀ ⠀ Although we faced many challenges and obstacles early on, and throughout the years, we never thought that we would see anything like we have seen over the last six months.
