If, like us, you like to eat your wild-caught salmon with the skin on, youāre doing your body a huge favor. Salmon skin is rich in connective tissue, with one-third collagen by weight, which does wonders for your skinās elasticity. Not to mention it contains more of the same minerals and nutrients contained in the salmon itself, which is an excellent addition to any diet. While boiling or steaming salmon can cause the skin to become rubbery, grilling or searing it adds a crispy texture to your dish and really brings out the flavor. Of course, itās essential to know where your salmon comes from before eating the skin. Is it not that one simply consumed food including micronutrients, fibre and a balance of macronutrients, thus supporting energy, function and satiety? But what if such consumption exceeded oneās caloric needs? Is it still good?ā£ā£ ā£ā£ Bad for what? Is it not that one simply consumed food bereft of micronutrients which may be less likely to satiate them? But what if such consumption supports to oneās caloric needs and the next meal is nutritious? What if nutrients have already been attained? Is it still bad?ā£ā£ ā£ā£ The long term key to taking control of oneās dietary outcomes is to understand that there is no good or bad, only difference. And our understanding of nutritional difference is what enables us to find a balance that support all aspects of our diet. Science determines nutritional outcomes. Not morality. ā£ā£ ā£ā£ Instead of being good or bad each time you consume food, understanding the food you consume within the context of your individual dietary goals will allow you to find this balance. You can understand that micronutrients are required for overall health, caloric management is needed for desired composition, and enjoyment is a necessity for adhering to any type of eating strategy or dietary transition. Balancing these dietary aspects via non rigid varieties of different foods may be the key to achieving all of the above. ā£ā£ ā£ā£ Each individual episode of eating is a small piece of a giant jigsaw.
