IT’S SUMTHIN YOU MIGHT NOT NEVA KNO NUTHIN ABOUT. Everyone likes to think that they critically think but I assure you, unless you practice objectivism in the broad sense of the term or first principles Aristotelian sense of the term ( and follow empirical evidence and logical reasoning FIRST, BEFORE formulating your opinions) you likely DO NOT critically think as much as you assume you do. The vast majority of people defend positions and then latch onto confirmation biases defending their positions, ignore, use logical fallacies, evade information that goes against- confirmation bias etc... Usually this ‘latching’ onto positions is emotively driven through dogmatism and unquestioned, unchallenged traditional and cultural values.....because something SOUNDS ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ at first....and so people will fight without questioning.... It’s why many people run into contradictions when they step outside of their areas of expertise. Until a person can objectively(without bias) ask many many questions, entertain different ideas without accepting them, challenge one’s own premises, truly explore the other possibilities and perspectives, and hold them to a philosophical standard, he will never truly be a critical thinker. And a critical thinker today is only a critical thinker tomorrow if he continues to critically think all of the time, every time. (And all of us fail at this here and there... the key thing is that we strive to be conscious at every step of the way and to never stop asking questions, and questioning our own positions and testing the foundations time and time again). : i can say it for sure went over MY head 😳 i love jet btw :( i kinda get why people hate on him considering he was painted as this sort of antagonist, although a very humanized one － i actually think his character is super interesting cause he starts off as an ally (a cocky + suspicious one, but an ally), then turns into a villain and then back to ally. i actually see his arc as similar to zukos: a kid with a lot of trauma (also lets just remember that jet probably suffered more and experienced a greater loss than zuko ever did － considering he lost his parents and home as a child in such a brutal way & had to figure out how to live on his own afterwards) which twisted his sense of justice and made him do bad things in his need for revenge and taking his rightful place, but eventually redeems himself by making himself useful to the gaang and at some point makes a noble sacrifice for (one of) them. so while i do i guess understand why youd not like him, i still get mad when i see people shitting on him considering they all adore zuko HAHh he deserved better okay #zuko #jet #gaang #aang #emberisland #avatar #atla #avatarthelastairbender - @azulabending on Instagram

My brother took his life 10 years ago. A few years later a faculty colleague in NC did the same. Then a student. Then another student. Then a brother of a student. Then a cousin of a student. Then a student‘s sister tried. My daughter‘s 4th grade class had to discuss as a child at another school who played sports with her school took his life. Suicide is a public health crisis no one is talking about. We don‘t know how. But the biggest help for many is simply having someone to talk to, someone to listen. So I am urging us to be open to conversations about suicide. It may help save a single life.
