Jer took this on the day I turned 34 last year as we were walking to dinner and just acting a fool, and as I reflect on my last day of 34, I feel immensely grateful. They say its rude to reveal a womens age, but I step into 35 with a lot of pride. At 25 years old, I was such a lost soul. I thought I had life figured out and thought I knew what made me happy, but I wasnt even close. I also never pictured the life I would have now--I dont think I was able to picture ant kind of life at all, so I think I am making my 25-year old self proud. Im eager to see what 40 will be like. Its hard to imagine what life before this pandemic was like--the past 5 months has felt entirely like its own era. But life did happen before, and life is happening right now. As we stepped into this pandemic and cancelled plans left and right, one thing that I chose to reactivate was the focus on myself. For as long as Ive known Jer, Ive been married to his work schedule that would take him away from me 4 days a week. I was fine with it, but I didnt realize how much I had put my life on pause once we had a child. Being the only parent at home for those days, I took everything upon myself despite having my mom to help. It was always a rush getting Shay ready for school in the morning and I always rushed home to see Shay after work--never wanted her to feel abandoned. I didnt realize how much the focus was on her, my family, and very little on myself...but I always chalked it up to the parental sacrifices I was accustomed to with my own parents. With all of us WFH, I didnt realize how much help I was actually lacking. For almost 5 years I handled bath time and bedtime stories most of the time by myself--not anymore. In the mornings, for 2 hours I focus solely on myself. Before I even get to check all of the apps on my phone and work stuff, I hit the trail with a playlist that I wouldnt dare play in front of Shay, and the freedom I have is the best feeling ever. In closing, Im grateful for these changes that otherwise wouldnt have happened if it werent for this pandemic. Dimulai dari Paes, Paes adalah riasan berupa cengkorongan di dahi wanita yang bermakna bermulanya suatu kehidupan, dimana paes adalah satu kesatuan antara pria dan wanita biasanya berwarna hitam, namun pada pengantin adat solo basahan berwarna hijau. Sedangkan kali ini kalau diperhatikan hijau bergradasi dengan hitam pekat. . Paes Ini terbuat daun dandang gula, yang merupakan campuran malam (sejenis lilin) yang bersifat nggak kering namun juga nggak meleleh. Paes dan hiasan lainnya memiliki makna berupa doa dan tuntunan untuk sang perempuan, . Dan kenapa Bentuk alis pengantin Jawa dibuat bercabang dan disebut alis menjangan ? Bentuknya terinspirasi dari tanduk rusa, dan maknanya pun berasal dari hewan itu. Perempuan harus memiliki tiga karakter yang dimiliki rusa, yaitu cerdik, cerdas, dan anggun. . When I applied to med school in 2017, the average GPA for matriculants was 3.7-3.8. The average MCAT was 511. The average # of schools applied was 15, or 20 if you were from a competitive state like California (me) or New York. ⁣ My GPA: 𝟯.𝟱, with a low of 2.7. My MCAT: 𝟱𝟬𝟳 # schools I applied: 𝟰𝟰 (24 MD, 20 DO) ⁣ Tbh being a premed was way harder than being a med student for me. I was a first-generation college graduate from a low-income family competing with premeds whose parents/relatives were physicians with a wealthy background or well-educated. My first-gens and URM friends, you know what I’m talking about!! ⁣ I’m sure everyone had their own challenges as a premed and I’m not trying to invalidate anyone’s struggles at all. I’m trying to spread awareness about the fact that you just don’t see many first-gens (& URM) make into med school, either because of the system or lack of confidence. My goal is to change that. ⁣ The whole reason why I didn’t pursue medicine earlier (I was pre-pharm for a long time) was simply because I didn’t think I’d make it. ⁣ Something my family said to me that has always stuck was this: IF YOU WANT SOMETHING, 𝗚𝗢 👏🏼 𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗜𝗧👏🏼 Sounds simple right? Yes if you come from a more privileged background. First-gens don’t get away with just completing the pre-med checklist. They have to work harder on so many levels (navigating new territory, limited financial resources and mentorship, standing out as a below-average student). People wonder why I’m intense? That’s why lol ⁣ I want to pass on this piece of advice, not just to premeds, but anyone who feels like the odds are against them sometimes. IF YOU HAVE A DREAM, YOU CAN GET THERE!! GO GET IT. GO DO IT. STAY PROACTIVE. ADVOCATE for yourself. Because NO ONE ELSE CAN DO IT BETTER THAN YOU. It’ll be tough as heck. The system SUCKS. People will doubt you. I can’t imagine what my URM friends are experiencing during this chaotic time. But until the system changes, we gotta keep at it!
