A friendly reminder that meditation and mindfulness practices aren’t a form of escapism, they’re quite the opposite. The more we dive into our minds, the more we remember that everything is consciousness & that we aren’t separate from the earth we walk on or the beings that walk on it. I say “remember” because we’ve always known this information. Our society wants us to stay distracted, to not have the time, energy or attention to sit with discomfort and question our own beliefs and the ones we’ve been taught. The more we pause and listen, the closer we get to connection. Just wanted to pop in and say how grateful I am for all of the support I’ve received with music right now. Of course, this has been a hard time. Just like many others, I am in between jobs, and I’m spending most of my time trying to find a new one with July 31st (end of pandemic relief) just around the corner. life update: we moved! 📦 I’ve been v MIA on my socials lately and hereeeee’s whyyyyy. Obviously, moving during a pandemic wasn’t our first choice but some reaaaaally wild and crazy sh*t was happening at our old place and we knew we needed to get out. It honestly was bittersweet because we loved our home and wanted to stay there for many years to come, but the circumstances made it unsafe for us to do so. 💔 the good news: what’s been so surprising is how quickly we found our new home and how quickly it started to feel like home. It is wonderful to think how our skin acts as a sacrificial protection so that all the complicated organ systems in our body can coordinate perfectly just to keep us safe, healthy and alive. Which is why no one have the right to judge who you are by your appearance. Which is why, men and women have to grow the strength and mutual understanding that these burns, stretch marks, pimples etc. should never demotivate you to accomplish anything in your life. If you do, it is almost as if you’ve given up on something worth so much more than just people’s judgments and your so called ‘weaknesses’. No, I am not telling you to love these scars on your skin, but neither am I telling you to hate them. Self-care is the key to self-confidence because you will feel confident about something if you genuinely care about it. I’m breaking my rule about sharing projects that are far from completion. Let me first just say that this will be a future pattern and it will be released when it’s ready, but I don’t know when that will be yet. There are a whole lot of steps left to get through before that day. But I couldn’t wait to share a little sneak peak! Maybe that’s a bad idea... but I miss sharing what I’ve been working on! This pattern has been a labor of love for the last year. I actually redrafted it from the first version I made last year (if you scroll back). Every detail has been researched on these overalls. They are based on bib overalls from the 1920s-40’s. And yes that’s a functional button fly! And repro Union Made buttons and braces from @citronjeans (he can’t ship to the US right now because of coronavirus, but hopefully that will change before long🤞🏻)! There’s a little detail that I plan to alter for the final pattern (the center front needs to taper in at the waist a smidge), but otherwise I couldn’t be more happy with how they turned out! So many construction details that had to be thought through, and I’m still figuring out the best way to describe how to do them in the sewing instructions. It’s a process! But I’m very into it (kind of obsessed). Oh and yeah these are unisex! So if you’re a guy who sews, keep an eye out! I got @jrmcclurg to try them on and they fit him (except for needing some extra length in the torso, which is expected). So much for keeping this short and to the point... She never comes to shoots but she’s extremely involved in the editing process as a dedicated lap warmer. Currently in this exact spot taking a little Instagram break while I wait for things to load on my computer for editing. I’ve been pretty much glued to this spot for the past week getting galleries finished and sent out during the day, leaving to shoot at night, and sometimes coming back to edit after that. NO ONE has the right to judge your body or existence. . 🌷I do not exist to please the eyes of people with internalised misogyny. If my body hair makes you uncomfortable it says more about you than me. . 💐Body hair is part of my identity. I shaved virtually my whole body (even my fingers and toes) for years and years because girls in my PE class told my my leg hair was ugly at a young age and that was reinforced through time. I wasn’t doing this for myself. I stopped shaving my legs and armpits over a year ago and whilst I’m sometimes self conscious, as time goes on I feel more empowered and more feminine than ever. . 🌞 Whilst I have always identified as a cisgender womxn so much of it doesn’t sit right with me. I abhor the pressures that young people (and adults myself included) internalise based on gender. Gender is a social construct and it isn’t binary. It’s the final countdown. The last few days of my time in Portland. I think, many times in the past, I haven’t let myself feel the heartbreak ~ filling my time/mind with distractions. (Y’all know how heartbreak feels, of course we want to avoid that feeling!) But, this time around I’ve been surrounded by some seriously epic & supportive humans who have held me accountable in truly feeling ALL of the feelings. The good, the bad, and everything in between. Thank you all for making me feel so seen & loved!✨ - I took the time to *write it out* a couple weeks ago... it’s a long & raw journal entry, so I won’t share everything. But, I do think it’s important to be vulnerable any chance you get, as you never know who needs to see your vulnerability to feel less alone... - “I AM SAD. And, I am constantly incredibly overwhelmed and anxious. I am definitely feeling a bit hopeless… and a little lost. But, I am also LEARNING. And, GROWING. And, EXPANDING. And, PIVOTING. And, READY!! Life would be no fun at all if we knew every next step and how it would all play out. I started this year with more confidence than I had felt in a very long time... No fear! All vunerability, bravery, and courage! But, that isn’t how it goes. I knew that choosing to uproot my life and comforts to take an eco-journey around the world would be full of trials and errors. Of missing people. Of craving stability. Of language barriers and feeling lost. But, that was the thing I craved. I was so confident in this craving that when real obsctacles came my way, they shook me to my core. Covid-19 moving my travel timeline back? We did it! Ember and I attended our third field trial this past weekend. We ran in Open Derby on Saturday and Amateur Walking Derby on Sunday. I am beyond thankful to the amazing judges on Sunday who awarded us 4th place! Every time Ember gets on a field, she gets better and better. Even against older dogs who could have been just under 2 years old. My little 7 month old puppy killed it! For those who are able to attend a field trial, I highly recommend it! Für Frida ein Ort zum toben, planschen und rumalbern. Etwas sehr wichtiges, denn während in der Wohnung toben unterbunden und Ruhe etabliert wird und beim Training oder spazieren der Fokus wo anders liegt, ist der Garten für Frida der einzige Ort an dem sie auch mal Grenzen austesten, rangeln und balgen kann. Mehrmals die Woche sind wir im Garten. Mal mit Harry mal mit Planschbecken, mal mit der gesamten Familie, mal alleine. Aber das natürlich nur wenn es das Wetter hergibt. Did you see the controversy behind the Gymshark post? They chose to post an image of a model without abs and people went wild. Here’s my thoughts. Gymshark goes up to a size XL, which is a size US 10 or AU 14. Not exactly inclusive. I used to feel really annoyed when I saw a brand or influencer capitalising on body positivity, but still promoting diet culture. Selling an app that promotes fat loss, posting transformation photos, advertising tummy shredder workouts and selling fat burning shakes, consistently linking fitness to leanness, having a clothing range of only 5 sizes... What is the intention of posting different size models? Is it because they care about representation or do they simply want a piece of that body positive pie and don’t want to give up on the other aspects of diet culture that bring in the $$$? Or maybe they don’t truly understand the damage that diet culture causes. I mean, I used to have a fitness app that promoted fat loss and what I thought was an inclusive swimwear brand because we made XXL bikinis (we offer 7-10 sizes now), and I didn’t think I was causing harm, I really did think I was helping people and being inclusive, so sometimes we need to give people the benefit of the doubt. But what is the impact? People start to feel represented, other brands take notice, different body shapes and sizes are normalised in the media, conversation opens up about the lacking of diversity in fitness, and a push comes for extending sizes... lots of positives. Think about how many brands had 💩 diversity when it came to POC, and after #blacklivesmatter their feeds changed... should they have changed earlier? Yes. Are they only diversifying their page now to avoid scrutiny and to appear #woke? Maybe. But at least it’s a change, and maybe the positive impact outweighs the sometimes capitalist intentions. Москва Мне показалось, что если крутиться всегда в пределах центра, город сказочный 🤍 а если думаете, чем заняться на выходных, ловите мой маршрут: 1. Завтрак в @salutecoffee , в списке меню выбрать самые верхние вафли. Ну очень вкусные! 2. После завтрака отправиться в музей @lumiere_center на фотовыставку о домах Москвы. Скачать там же аудиогид по QR коду и слушать историю создания зданий 3. Там за углом рядом с gypsy была найдена вкусная веган шаверма. Маленькая и вкусная! Ее вот берём с собой 4. И пока ждём заказ, выбираем билетики на параход в rivertickets по Москве реке, стоимость экскурсии 150руб. Нам попался ещё и гид, который рассказывал историю домов, мостов и набережных. Очень клёво, прогулка около 1,5ч поэтому перекус веган шавермой будет кстати. 5. А после круто снять самокат whoosh и кататься по городу, уже вечер, после экскурсии и этого дня, дома покажутся ещё интереснее и атмосфера вечернего города ✨ 6. Доехать до @abugosh.moscow и скушать самый вкусный фалафель и хумус эвер 🧆 и выдохнуть, какой клёвый и интересный был день! В список одного дня не успели войти: 📍 Кофеёк и круассан в @antipa_cafe , а потом за углом в Пушкинский музей на выставку о татуировках, не забывайте купить аудиогид, после выставки можно подняться будет в верхние залы тоже и гид Работает на все работы. (also holaaaa at my gap toothed queens!) - I wasn’t an advocate for purposeful and organised self help, I always believed in going with the flow but when the going gets tough, you look for other options. After a rough start to 2020, my best friend gifted me a gratitude journal that changed the way I function. The journal asks you to list down three things you are grateful for in a day. Slowly and subconsciously I was paying so much more attention on the positives happening through the day (our minds tend to mull over the negatives cuz human nature) I had a very fun activity to look forward to at the end of each day. It reminded me to say thank you out loud and more often, to people and their actions, to moments that pass us by with a purpose but we were too focused on how the wifi was slow. If 2020 has taught us anything is that universe operates in its mysterious ways and we may not have control over it all, even our minds. We have to make efforts to train our minds to see the beautiful, to feel it and express it. ✨ - Have you tried gratitude journaling? I made this hoop in case someone needed to hear it. It wasn’t your fault if you were dealt a shitty hand, or if you had to become a survivor from someone else’s actions. I made this 2020 hoop for someone else because so much has been out of control with the pandemic but today it felt like it was for me. I have severe OCD that is usually controlled but today I had a full panic that ended in me calling my mother because I was scared I set the oven on fire and had completely forgotten what to do to address it. It’s the first time in a long while I’ve been so uncontrolled. I’m still shaken but with some guidance I dealt with if. So I suppose that brings me to the big point- it isn’t your fault you have a mental illness or other issue. But it is your responsibility.
