A very common problem I see in tattoo work, as well as art work in general, is thinking an area is lighter, or darker, than it really is, because your comparing it to a value next to it. My first boss paid me terribly. Her expectations of me were unreasonable. She wanted me to be better. Everyday. She showed me that you could love your job as much as your kids. This past Sunday, less than 48 hours before he passed away, I said goodbye to my Pop for the very last time. After all the weekends down the shore, winter breaks in Florida, family meals, Eagles games in his den, summer days on his tennis court, late nights playing chess, and thousands of other moments, this was really it. At that point, there wasn’t much left. The end was near. He was so weak he could barely talk. And when he did, It was just mumbling. None of it made any sense. Leaning over his bed, my hand in his, just me and him in the room, tears running down my face, I told him I had to go. I told him I loved him, and I thanked him. I told him that I’m ok, and that I’ll see him soon. To that, with his eyes staying closed, he told me ‘I’ll be right here.’ The only thing he said Sunday that I could understand. From there, I picked my head up, turned towards the door, took a deep breath, and headed back to the life I’ve worked so hard to create. A life I wouldn’t have the tools to create had it not been for Pop. And now, as I sit here on a train back home for the third time in four weeks, with tears rolling down my face yet again, I’m so proud to show off a video my mom took of Pop on my 25th birthday in 2017. A few months later, pop got sick. And even though he did get a little bit better from there, he was never really the same. Just listen to his message. This is the man I will remember. This is why I WILL be ok. Because of what Pop taught me. I love Pop so much. He was my dad. Anyone who knows me knows that. I can’t believe he’s gone. Today is the day I’ve dreaded since I was a little girl. The day I have to say, see you in Heaven, to my best friend. Although it’s been 3 months, it still doesn’t feel real. Grandma was the definition of unconditional love. She loved fearlessly and without hesitation. Grandma showed her love through prayers, hugs and cookies. She was always there to give you a hug, tell you how much you are loved and hand you a warm, chocolate chip cookie. Grandma taught me the power of prayer. When I would come to grandma with a complaint or issue, she would always ask me “Have you prayed about it”. Grandma knew, If you turned to Jesus everything would be okay. She loved Jesus more than anything else. Grandma prayed for everyone(if they knew it or not). Grandma called everyone “Sweetie”. She always said, “If I call everyone sweetie, I don’t have to remember there name.” No matter what, grandma was there for you. She was the most dependable person you’d ever meet. She made it a point to have a special relationship with all of her grandkids and great-grandkids. I am forever grateful for the bond and relationship we had. I will miss our Thursday lunches at Ted’s, playing cards and sleepovers with our Sleepytime tea and Antique Roadshow. She was kind, generous, humble, funny and selfless. A recent Harvard study found that another strategy may also play a part in countering despair: attending religious services. The study, published online May 6, 2020, by JAMA Psychiatry, evaluated self-reported religious service attendance among 110,000 white, middle-aged men and women who were followed for about 30 years. Compared with never attending religious services, going at least once per week was associated with a much lower risk of death from despair: 68% lower for women and 37% lower for men. Researchers say that religious participation — regardless of affiliation — may serve as an antidote to despair and provide a sustained sense of hope, meaning, peace, and positive outlook. A court date we had recently revealed that we would have her until at least next June! So many mixed emotions because wow June is so far away and wow a newborn and an 11 month old at the same time sounds like a lot but also yay we get to love her for longer! Weve said from the very beginning that were along for the ride no matter what that might look like and we still feel that way. To think well have two girls so close in age seems so fun and crazy at the same time! So for now, were house hunting because boy did we outgrow this condo really quick! Robert “Bob” Zwart 1928-2020 My father passed away this week. A wonderful father, and a wonderful husband and a wonderful Grandpa, his wit and humor inspired all of us until the end. My dad was the reason for cars in my life, the reason for photography and the reason for my quest for adventure. All of his influences added up to my career, and my racing that he so loved vicariously living through. His creativity and his desire to fix things led him to a major in mechanical engineering and a specialty in plastics and ultimately composites. He led the engineering team that created the MD-80 at McDonnell Douglas, the first composite passenger aircraft. He loved sports cars and my parents met on a blind date when he drove up in a 1949 MGTC in his Navy uniform and they were married for almost 70 years. He had a few Porsches along the way and owned chassis #35 901, built in late 1964 which I learned to drive in. His real passion was MGs and he restored one himself a 1929 wood and fabric bodied MG-M Type. My dad loved his family and hearing the adventures we all took on. He was my first truck driver in the US Pro Rally Championship and attended nearly every Pikes Peak Hillclimb. The last 5 years he has been in a great deal of pain but always had a positive attitude and he loved our visits, but those visits were always extra special when our Bernese Mountain Dog Jezzebel would show up. He loved Jezzebel and we could see the calm come over his pain while petting her. And for both my parents, my wife Terri, and their grandchildren Baylee and Katie were their greatest joy. Last week was his toughest week and on Tuesday I witnessed the peak of pain followed by complete peace and we all knew that it was his time. He has joined my mother and left behind so many highlights that have inspired so many and we all can smile at the wonderful memories he has left us with after 91 years. 💊💉 It’s a new and unsettling feeling to have my body fail me, but it’s a feeling I have become accustomed to over the past year. As a result of my time in Indonesia I have been battling chronic stomach illness and constant lethargy. Through countless doctor’s appointments to address my stomach problems I discovered a tumor. Two weeks ago I had surgery to remove a tumor in my neck. My parathyroid gland had grown to 50 times it’s usual size and was throwing off my blood chemistry. It has been growing for years but I only recently found it. I praise God that the surgery was successful and that my recovery is going smoothly. As my body remains broken I am forced to question why I am not being healed. Does God have some lesson in humility or dependence for me to learn? Or is God much more passive, allowing a sinful world to play out unchecked? Maybe God is only here to comfort us and guide how we respond to the carnage that life makes of us. - @rascalglatts on Instagram

- My dad passed away yesterday morning after a very short, hard fought battle with cancer. He did me the honour of walking me down the aisle 2 months before he deteriorated. I feel so lucky and blessed. ❤️

There are plenty of words to describe my dad— husband, father, coach, best friend, Voice of the Miami Hurricanes, and thanks to the 2015 Duke game—Voice of a Miracle. But there are not enough words to describe how proud I was watching my best friend walk up the stage last night to be recognized by the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame. For the past 38 years, my dad has made South Florida sports and the University of Miami Hurricanes his passion.  He’s called every football National Championship game, all three of basketball’s Sweet 16 runs, and is the active leader amongst College World Series broadcasters, calling games at 15 of 25 trips to Omaha. While it has definitely been a whirlwind, my dad was never too busy for his little girl. He always had time to take me to the park, or drive hours to catch a soccer game. SuperMan 🦸‍♂️ All toddlers think their Dad’s are big & strong like Superman... but I was convinced my father was Clark Kent by day & Superman by night until I was 7 years old! My father loved being a GP & later an ER doctor into his 70’s. He truly became SuperMan in my eyes the night my female classmates & their father’s we’re celebrating at a formal affair. Amid 100 or so fathers & daughters stepping in time with the music ~ one father dropped to the floor. Dad rushed to his side and accompanied him to the hospital. After midnight Dad returned and all he said was “Let’s go dancing, I can’t sleep tonight.” We did; we danced all night until the sun streaked the sky and then wandered to a diner for breakfast.
