It’s hard to believe that it’s been 5 years since The Barn was renovated to it’s current state. Just yesterday we were rushing around trying to get everything back in place for the first event after construction was completed. A few little things were even still being wrapped up early that morning! It was a crazy time for sure but we loved the outcome and still do 5 years later. The second photo is from 2014 after the porch was added and the third is from our first wedding in 2013 when only a few things had been done. The Barn was built in 1946 and overtime has kept its same bones. All of our reno’s have included wood from around the farm. ▫️north carolina wine▫️⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Have you ever tried it?⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Generally vitis vinifera will do best in areas with dry summers, hot days, and cool nights. The southeast is anything but; humid summers, extremely hot days, and definitely no cooling down at night. These hot & humid days can cause fungus and rot. Grape growers also have to be mindful of the fact that nights can get below freezing in winter. All-in-all, these are definitely not prime growing conditions. This is why it is not uncommon to also find hybrid varieties in these areas such as Chambourcin, Vidal Blanc, Seyval Blanc, Traminette, and Chardonel. ⁣Definitely have to give these wineries credit for the extra lengths they have to go to make it work! ⁣ ⁣⁣ Although I will always be partial to Napa & Sonoma wines, I love to experience wine from all over and nothing can beat the atmosphere of being at a vineyard. Am I right?⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Yadkin Valley holds the distinction of being North Carolinas first AVA and is probably the most well known. WestBend Winery is one of the oldest North Carolina wineries and I recently had the opportunity to visit. My favorite wine of theirs was the Sangiovese. As we make our way through winter the work starts again for our viticulture team. Pictured here are our 1 year old Abel clone pinot noir vines. Vines of this age require extra care during pruning due to the fragility that comes with the youth of the vines. We are currently in the stage of wrapping down the canes for next years crop. To do this, we first select the healthiest cane. We then trim the healthy cane and wrap it down to the cordon wire to provide the young vine with stability. This clone of pinot noir is a rare variety in the Yarra Valley and is the single clone used to make our Smuggler reserve pinot, so getting these vines established properly at this stage of development is very important! Still busy brewing and blending beers. Lately we are brewing saison based beers to blend with our older wild ales. We also received organic winegrapes from last harvest and fermented most of it in wooden barrels. Nothing added. Later the wine will age further in ex burgundy barrels. New Beer Alert 🚨 🚨 Brewed a year ago (almost to this day) as a collab between these two dudes. ‘Elocution’ (5%) started as a low ABV hoppy saison with a lot of emphasis on water manipulation. For those of you wondering what the hell that means- let’s just say there’s a lot of chalk added to the brewing water- among other things... Still don’t understand? Well who really cares anyways - right? After initial fermentation, this hoppy boy got transferred into wine barrels previously used by the always great @bellahomestead and @asundayinaugust where it sat for nearly a year before being dry hopped with Sultana and Hallertau Tradition hops. It’s a weird one- but in the best sort of way. A symphony of flavors all competing for your attention. Assertively sour, assertively bitter, zesty, salty and citrusy. Almost like a lime margarita! Passeio maravilhoso pelo nosso Nordeste, para a Vinícola Terra Nova Miolo no Vale do São Francisco, uma atração imperdível. Vivy querida, tem Vinícola no Nordeste? Lóoooogico!! Tem Vinícola no Nordeste, tem Vinícola na Bahia, tem Vinícola no Vale do São Francisco. Optamos por juntamente com esse passeio fazer o Roteiro Vapor do Vinho. No ano de 2000 o Grupo Miolo decidiu expandir e pesquisou a região de Casa Nova na Bahia. Atualmente a plantação é voltada para a produção de uvas bases para espumantes, vinhos jovens e frutados e suco de uva integral. Hoje, a Vinícola Terra Nova Miolo, como foi batizada, já possui mais de 200 hectares de terra para produção da uva, em um sistema de rodízio, para maior aproveitamento do solo e das videiras. Tudo só foi possível, graças o processo de produção com agricultura irrigada que já estava acontecendo na região de sertão do Vale do São Francisco. Ao final do passeio fazemos uma visita ao parreiral e uma boa degustação. Vale muito a pena conhecer!!! I met Emily through an AMAZING womens networking group in Nashville called, @heelsandhandshakes. As soon as we met, she immediately said “OMG YOU! Are the one whose going to make my jumpsuit!” I said “Of course!” but in my head thought she would forget. She didn’t, and I am forever grateful!! 🥰😘 Emily knew exactly what she wanted, and I could see her vision through her inspiration boards. We sketched, drew, selected our pant fabric, but then said she wanted beading. So she ended up choosing the beading in the 5th picture. Yes, it was black at the time but she fell in love with it. This beading was custom made and beaded in India. So we color matched, added a belt and viola! Emily had a Couture jumpsuit for her reception. 👑 Cheers, Emily! If you’ve never been, I highly recommend a weekend trip there. ⁣🍷🍇 🥂🍇 ⁣ My first stop was @gaineyvineyards. This was the first vineyard I’ve been to since Coronoavirus. I have to say, I was impressed with how clean and sanitized they were. The tables were socially distanced and people were wearing masks. I felt very safe! ⁣😷😷 ⁣ I went through a wine flight, but my favorite of the tasting was the Estate Grown 2019 Estate Sauvignon Blanc. 🥂👌🏽 It was rich and mouthwatering, and had beautiful structure. I got notes of grapefruit, melon and guava. ⁣🥂🥂 Gainey Vineyard is located in the Santa Ynez Valley, just two and one-half hours north of Los Angeles, a scenic 35-minute drive north of Santa Barbara. It’s a beautiful vineyard. It was so lovely and nice to be back in a vineyard again! The big daddy grape of #flxwinecountry is for sure Riesling! One of my faves was definitely Acid Head from @sheldrakepoint! Id heard about it on the @winefornormalpeople and had to check it out! With some respite from the recent rain it was now or never to put our tractors through their paces… not to mention a newly fabricated undervine mower (... because Damien can 💪🏼!) and a larger than life slasher that defies logic by slipping into our rows with only inches to spare. . With almost a week’s worth of undervine mowing, the slasher returns organic matter back under the vines, restoring some semblance of visual order and “calm” 💆🏼‍♂️.
