Run Culture Podcast Episode 65: This week I had a ball chatting to former Australian distance running superstar; Susie Power. We detail her incredible running journey, the many ups and downs and some major learnings. Key takeaways I took from this chat included: ‘the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.’ Or that, for most runners; ‘good life balance often parallels optimal performance.’ Susie still holds multiple U/20 Australian records, was a pen pal and close friend to Paula Radcliffe growing up, was a silver medalist to Gabriella Szabo in the 3000m at the 1994 World Junior Track & Field Championships. She was also the Bronze medallist in the 10,000m behind the Kenyans at the 2001 Goodwill Games and 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games. She is still the Sydney City2Surf woman’s race record holder (45:01) from 2001. She ran an incredible 31:25 in the rain at the 2001 Zatopek 10,000m in an amazing display of front running. Susie also ran a quick 67:56 at the 2002 Great North Half marathon. After a frustrating start to the day due to Carlos not being able to start, Lando Norris drove a great race and finished P7! He had a fairly slow start to race but came alive in the last 10 laps overtaking lance stroll and hunting down Albon and Ocon for P5. Unfortunately Lando didn’t quite have enough laps to pass them. 1 more lap would of allowed him to overtake Albon! Tomorrow I’m finally once again heading to what for me two years ago seemed almost impossible. My second 24h of Le Mans, once again accompanied by @rahelfreyracing and @manuelagostner. Honestly sometimes I have to pinch myself just to be sure that it’s not all just a dream.... Racing goes up and down, most of the time due to financial reasons, but I’ve gotten myself into a position where all I have to do is to race, perform and enjoy. That’s honestly rare in racing. I feel honored, privileged and EXTREMELY lucky to get this opportunity once again, and even though I’m a person very focused only on the results in the end of the day, I truly believe that it’s important to stop that for a moment and just step back and enjoy. I’ll do that this weekend, I’ll enjoy and I will be proud of what I’ve so far achieved. Haters will say I’m only racing at Le Mans because I’m a female driver, and you know what. That’s so damn true! Female, male or whatever. In the end we are all racers. 🥇🥇🥇 Wohoooo - Wir haben gewonnen! Mein erster Gesamtsieg bei der perfekt organisierten Rallye Bad Schmiedeberg! Das war ein toller Re-Start nach einer langen Rallyepause. Das erste Mal mit dem ŠKODA FABIA Rally2 evo auf Schotter war richtig genial, wir konnten unsere Erfahrung aus der WM ausspielen und mit einem Vorsprung von über 1:24 min auf den nächsten R5-Boliden gewinnen. Vielen Dank an mein neues @eurosolracing und meinen neuen Beifahrer @jan_enderle. Ihr habt beide einen tollen Job gemacht. Ein riesen Lob geht an die Organisation vom MSC Bad Schmiedeberg e.V. im ADMV und die Behörden, die in dieser Zeit den Mut bewiesen und gezeigt haben, dass man eine Rallye auch mit Zuschauern durchführen kann. Das war ein starkes Zeichen! After nearly 2 years of not racing I woke up this morning questioning what I was doing and why I was putting myself on that line again. The fears and doubts starting to creep in.
