ATTN: 😢 It is with a very sad and heavy heart that we must announce the permanent closure of Chillz Frozen Yogurt. Our last day of operation will be Saturday November 30, 2019. We have loved being such a big part of the community over the past 5 years and wish it could have continued for many more. Many will ask why, here is the reasons so there is no speculation. The rent at this location has reached a point of being unsustainable and in recent months the landlords added $5000 in charges that they say are extra cam fees not covered in our normal rent. They won’t give itemized lists of charges and also state they won’t renegotiate the rent unless we pay those fees. Second reason is the carryover of losses from our Riverside store, third reason is a decrease in sales over this last year of about 10-12% and the last reason is the upcoming increases in minimum wage. All of these items became the perfect storm that the business cannot waver. We wanted to announce the closure ahead of time because we want our customers to have a chance this week to use up their gift cards and points. I discuss this analogy when thinking about behavior and its many drivers. . In this illustration the analogy is used to focus on racism. That is, the racism that we see caught of film (Karens, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Philando Castile, Jacob Blake, etc.) is really only a small portion of ALL the racism that is happening to Black folks on a daily basis. . Underneath the water we have all the other racist behaviors that impact the Black community. Microaggressions, redlining, racial gaslighting, and the 13th amendment. We have the reasons why the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act, the Crown Act, the Fair Housing Act, and other laws passed to combat systemic racist policies, exist!!! . I wish I could explain how emotionally exhausting it is to hear about a Black man being shot by the police and then to hear comments trying to justify why it could possibly be okay to be shot 8 times in the back, or have a knee on their neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. . It is fucking exhuasting to have to then navigate spaces where the trauma youve experienced isnt acknowledged or recognized as being such, and the expectation is that you operate business as usual, and you stay silent because you arent sure if youre going to educate or intimidate... .
