Part 2- Many have wondered, what did Audrey see in this thrice divorced, older man? To Audrey, Mel was cultured, intelligent, spoke multiple languages, and an established actor. He could help guide and protect her from the chaos of Hollywood. When they werent working they lived a simple life, as described in this excerpt from a 1955 article about the couple at their farmhouse near Rome: “Audrey and Mel live informally and dress informally. If you go to their home for dinner you’ll find Audrey wearing a silk blouse and pair of tight, well-tailored toreador pants, and Mel in cotton trousers and a native Italian shirt. Instead of American cocktails, you’ll be served a drink called a Negroni, an Italian aperitif. Dinner starts with a pasta, then a tasty veal dish—zuccini and stringbeans grown on the estate, a green salad with mild oil and vinegar dressing, a country cheese, some fruit, and strong Italian coffee. The wine is also made on estate.” . However, Mel had a temper and became jealous of Audrey’s career. He envied her success and resented the fact that as Audrey’s career continued to grow, his became more of an after thought. He had aspirations that the two would become the next Laurence Olivier & Vivien Leigh, but his dreams were quickly dashed. War & Peace earned mixed reviews and his attempt at directing Audrey in Green Mansions was panned by critics and ended his directorial career. Friends noticed that Audrey felt trapped in her marriage and unable to be herself. From the book “Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.”, Sam Wasson describes an unpleasant moment between the two, “One evening after the day’s shoot, at a Japanese restaurant, with various members of the [Breakfast at Tiffany’s] cast and crew, Audrey made the mistake of putting her elbows on the table. Mel was seated next to her, and when he saw this, he picked up a fork, slipped its prongs under her elbows, and said - in a voice loud enough for all to hear - ‘Ladies do not put their elbows on the table.’ It was the sort of oppressively awkward moment that can only be met with silence. Audrey was stricken, and the table, mortified. Nothing was said. She simply removed her elbows and put her hands in her lap.” - @rareaudreyhepburn on Instagram

Very often we forget the people who buy the tickets that keep our shows alive. I didn’t sleep for a week before making my debut in @dearevanhansen it was like hopping on a freight train going 100mph. On the night of my debut I was greeted with utter love and support by two twins @fooliejuliegram & @marthasgram I hate to call them fans because they feel like family. They were by my side and my cast’s side from our first shows to our last shows. Little did the boys know this phone call would be the last one they would make to their mother. “Harry and I were in a desperate rush to say goodbye, you know, ‘see you later’ ... if I’d known now obviously what was going to happen I wouldn’t have been so blase about it and everything else.
